Can you expand on this? Is it government only, or all non-essential businesses?
The former, I can work around, the latter properly fucks me.
Specifically, I need to put my motorcycle in for a service on my couple days off, and if I can't (or I do, and then they shutter things) then I'm proper fucked.

Hi all - I'm in the ACT. If anyone needs a hand with any shopping or wants someone to talk to during this time, please feel free to PM me. I'm happy to help wherever is needed. This is a tough time - the ACT, like NSW, is in complete shut down 48 hours from now. While 'non-essential services' is still a bit up in the air, I don't think a lot of Federal/Territory staff are going to be going in to work in the next little while. For some of us, that means working from home. For others, especially non-ongoing staff, that could mean being let go if this goes on for months. Either way, I think we're all going to need to look out for each other and stay safe.

Here's RNZ take on it. Was supposed to be starting at 1:30 pm, delayed by ten minutes. hasnt started yet as of 1:40pm
Honestly kind of wishing that the goverment would just commit to upping the lockdown level - i know it'd mean disruption, but i'd rahter things get hammered in safely as it were.
I'll post a further update once RNZ posts a good summary.
This is in effect for at least 4 weeks.

Welp, should have gone grocery shopping yesterday. Everytime there's an announcement like this the shops get slammed before I get home. I feel this time is going to be worse.
annnnnnnnd of course an eledery relative of my neighbour just started to try and tell me how he thinks the goverment is over reacting.
Mate, fuck you. I grew up with constant chest pains because i got pneumonia when i was 12ish, and the scar tissue in my lungs kept getting streched as i grew up. Pneumonia alone is terrifying, and i've got fucking asthma and diabetes on top of that. Let's not even touch the mental health stuff that also does a massive number on me stress wise and all the results that has on my immune system (Pro tip: It's not great!)
The biggest terror up until this point has been that frankly, i was trusting the public to be sensible about shit. Now at least i dont have to. But still, just... Oof. This feels like being hit with a hammer.
On a brighter note, the government's announced rent freezes, so suck on that landlord.
I went to the shops on the way home from work, and aside from bread, they weren't slammed. I even managed to get the eggs I wanted to get yesterday, which were for lunch in the office, which is now in my garage.
This is the best possible thing to do at this point. Bad situation, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it's being handled by the government.
Went to the pet store to grab some dog food because I'm an idiot and realised our supply wouldn't last 4 weeks. Obviously everybody else had the same thought but much to my surprise, pet stores are considered essential services and will remain open. Makes me wonder what is and isn't essential.

Good on National actually. Glad to see our political parties are at least willing to play nice.
So tomorrow we stay at home and wait to be contacted. I feel bad for our IT team, they were hoping they had until Monday to finish they're WFH setup.
This all feels unreal though. It's one thing watching the news about Italy et al, but somehow you don't think it'll end up happening in NZ.
I hate booze and alchol culture at the best of times (Booze is for use in cooking, and that's about all the use i've found for it. Safe water source should the world goto shit, i guess), but this is just... really kids? reallly?

So Stuart Roberts lied directly to the Australian public today to shield his own incompetence.
He told us that the Mygov website crashed due to "a cyber attack" in a press conference. Then when asked directly in parliament (where there are penalties for misleading the house) he admitted that the website crashed because it could only support 55,000 people logging in at once (the fuck?).
I don't know.
Is it lying to say that a denial of service attack occurred when your denial of service alert triggered due to totally legitimate traffic?
(Yes)
(It also sounded like said alert automatically throttled input into MyGov)

Morrison: The National Cabinet has agreed to keep the schools open. Children should be at school.
NSW: Schools are open if you have no option, but please don’t send your kids to school.
VIC: We are starting school holidays early.
ACT: lol schools are closed.
Good to see the governments are united in their messaging.
I've got a couple hundred tradesmen staring down the barrel of no income for four weeks. The kiwi government is being frustratingly vague if they are going to cover people on work visas with their subsidy payments (most of my guys are on essential skills work visas). Spent about four hours this afternoon submitting their applications for the subsidy anyway. It was be insane if they wouldn't pay it

That’s a pretty clear reflection of just how much of the public trust our federal leaders have lost.
These are also the leaders who are somehow saying that kids aren’t transmitting the disease and thus schools can stay open.
The things we were seeing out of China were kids were mostly infected by the adults in their family, rather than bringing the disease home to the adults.
I'm not sure how true that's held since then, but that was what was reported in our coronavirus thread.
Kids aren't dying to the disease, but that's a very different thing.
Yep. Anyone who's ever spent any time around kids knows they are absolutely little disease vectors at the best of times. In case of a pandemic? Jesus fuck, get them away from each other!
Four cases of community transmission, NZ now up to 155 cases. Lockdown takes effect in just over 24 hours. Six people in hosptial, but none in ICU. 12 people have recovered from the virus, and over 8300 tests have been completed.
So, not great seeing the pretty rapid increases - 40 cases more than yesterday. On the other hand, hopefully the lockdown is kicking in fast enough to curtail things getting anyworse. We'll see - people are sadly being smegheaded morons about the "Dont panic buy", despite the government and the sueprmarket's pleading with everyone.
Hope my updates are useful to people! Figure it' something to do.

Drive through Onehunga up to North Shore was weird. Traffic was strangely heavy, almost everything was closed so no pedestrians, and lines snaking out of grocery stores around the parking lot.
I am hoping that's because the stores are limiting the number of people inside at once.

That appeared to be the case in Royal Oak, though I didn't actually go to the supermarket.
* Dairies to stay open, with "one-in one-out" rule·
* Food delivery prohibited, except meals on wheels and delivery of food not pre-cooked
* Liquor stores closed, unless within a Licensing Trust Area and with "one-in one-out" rule
* Self-service laundries can stay open, two-metre physical distancing to be enforced·
All good to see. Pisses me off that the Warehouse earlier announced that they considered themselves an essential service and would be open. We really do not need retailers actively contributing to the confusion like that.

I work in the Agency as well, and we're considered critical staff (DHSA).
Premier Marshall has also instituted a travel ban for the state, so nobody is coming in as well.

What defines non-essential though? Mechanics?
The only hint they gave was ‘look at what the UK is doing’.
Games Stores I assume are one :P
I imagine only medical related shops, like pharmacies, food outlets, delivery companies and similar will be allowed to remain open.
This seems like the kind of information you set out before doing it, and announce, along with decision
Full text will be out tomorrow I am sure. Just need some patience.
There is literally no evidence for this claim. What the fuck are they doing.
They’re saying theres no evidence that they are. Basically using lack of evidence to support their claim.

In 48 hours once vital services are confirmed to be in place and ready, NZ will move to level 4.
For those who cannot remember what the alert system is, here's a PDF link.

I was taking notes on her announcement for the coworkers, and once I finished that, I cried. No idea, just overwhelmed I guess.
So very overwhelmed.

National is suspending campaigning, and in full support. So, basically, the opposition & the government are agreeing, and everyone is expected to support each other.
