    Relative time or actual time.

Because I would say it's been about ten years but my calendar disagrees.

Official shelter-in-place was 5 days ago. Encouragement to stay home, a couple weeks.

Yeah things were starting to shut down a couple weeks ago, I personally have been working remote for two weeks as of yesterday. Official government policy ramped up a bit slower, restaurants/bars, gyms etc closed last week, and the full "Not calling this shelter in place but everyone stay the fuck home" was only as of this Monday.

    Diary, day...10?
Went to the grocery store this morning.
Got some veggies, should help keep me alive. No TP on the shelves, though. I did buy some flushable wipes. I know, I know, they're not flushable and they're not good products. But I thought that if I interspersed them with my standard toilet paper, I could delay descent into barbarism.

    However!

On the way out of the store, the man next to me had a pack of toilet paper!

    !!!

I asked him if it had gotten stocked up, and he said it was pretty low when he got his pack. We had a little more discussion than I was entirely comfortable with in regards to how fast I go through bog roll. The long and the short of it is that he gave me a roll out of his 12-pack!*
I suspect the supply chain is re-establishing, and that my roughly 10-day to my roll (possibly extended by wipes) would see me through, but that was damned nice of him, and I promised to pay it forward should I find any packs.

    People can be all right.

    *
I'm not complaining, and I am very grateful, but I do acknowledge that it looks to be a smaller roll of thinner ply. So I don't think I can count on as much use out of this as out of my go-to Cottonelle

    Dear Diary,

Last week I tried to wire transfer some money to my wife's family because we're on lockdown and they can't work and still have to pay bills because lol, america.

    hooowever --

It's been "under review" for a week and today not only was it cancelled, they also locked my account!
I've been on hold for half an hour so far and the music they are using is not of the best quality (loud, static-y, horrible) and my ears are quickly bleeding to death while I listen to Satan being summoned through my phone.

On the bright side we've been told we're allowed to go back in to work and take monitors home so we can continue working from home. I won't be doing that because I have enough at home, but it's nice of them to lift that restriction.

I was going to mention the Taskmaster home tasks as well.

And if you dont know what Taskmaster is, they have the full first four seasons up on their youtube channel for free:

Its now my favorite British Telly show since it has a bunch of creativity and they spend a good deal of time roasting each other and having fun. Each season is 6/5/5/8 episodes!

Also, Greg Davies is a ledge

I've used the system he's talking about, and while I could turn it off, I always took my microphone off completely when I left the room.

My lawn's getting pretty overgrown, so I thought I might go out and get some fresh air and exercise by mowing for the first time this spring.

Turns out that everything's still soaked from last week's rain. So I just picked up sticks and branches for twenty minutes.

That seems like about enough productivity for one day. Time for beer and grilled cheese.

You can mow wet grass. Just makes the catch bag heavier.

Well it might also leave giant troughs and mud holes from the mower and my fat feet splooshing around out there

My wife works in the Central HR department of a large university. One of the largest in Canada.

Her office has about 100 people in it usually. As of today, all of those people are working from home except her, her direct supervisor, and the Vice President of the University who runs HR.

She and her boss have been trying desperately to explain to the VP that they can do all of their work from home (their entire computer system can be remotely accessed via VPN) except a handful of things, and it would be best if one of them came in once a week to check mail, receive deliveries etc. The VP, for who knows what reason, insists that she herself needs to be in the office, and she needs the help of the other two.

I'm getting seriously peeved about it. The VP doesn't want the hassle of hooking up her home computer or taking meetings online and because of that she's insisting on putting my wife and me and our 2 year old at much higher risk.

Update to this, my wife and her boss worked out a system of deferring duties to other folks enough to appease the VP so as of lunchtime today she's working from home. She still needs to go in once a week to check mail and do a couple of things that require physical presence, but at those times I'll drive her so she doesn't have to bus.

    It is a big relief.

Oh I forgot to mention! I did a quick grocery shop today and it was totally fine except for the fact that two old dudes almost threw hands at each other!

I heard raised voices coming from the next aisle so I went to check it out and one 60+ year old was telling another one to "stay the fuck away from me or I'll beat your fucking ass" and the other one said "I'm nowhere near you but if you talk to me like that again I'll be a hell of a lot closer"

then the 19 year old cashier kicked them both out and said they weren't welcome anymore.

    Oh thank goodness.
My husband was in a similar situation. Schools closed last week, and I stayed home with the kids. But his work ( he works for the NYC DEP) decided he couldn't work from home for some reason. The mayor is telling businesses to transfer to wfh, and he won't even make city agencies implement it. My husband does plan review, with some paperwork, but mostly on the computer. At most, he needed to go into work a couple hours once a week to drop off/ pick up paperwork.
His office said they would transition last week, but his bosses who were supposed to set it up kept staying home while saying he had to go into work. And not setting anything up.
Finally, Cuomo put in the stay at home mandate, and Friday they finally made a plan for him to stay home this week. He's going in tomorrow morning for a little bit, but he's been able to be home this week.

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

In times like these retail employees should get a grace period on falcon kicking people through the sternum.

Like, maybe they can 5 Point Exploding Palm Technique 1 rude ass bitch ass customer a day without any charges being levied against them. Order would be restored and maybe everybody would stop hoarding the fucking toilet paper.

This is some grade A old people smack talk here.

I had some lady try and run me down in her trolley the other day because I had the nerve to walk in a straight line and she wanted to turn. So her solution was to speed up and walk into me, rather than slow down and turn. She got very indignant when I suggested for her to maybe just slow down and turn.

Just got straight up told by the bosses today that all employees are being deemed essential and that they have no intention of letting us work from home unless we are, or live with, a person at risk, in which case wfh applications will be considered but not guaranteed. Their excuse is "bandwidth issues".

If nothing changes in the next few weeks I'm considering just using my own leave.
