I really liked Tower of God this week:
The twist with Khun was great.

He demonstrated that he could outsmart the Ranker, but then lost the game for his "team" on purpose so his real allies on the other team have a chance to pass as well.

Not sure what's going on, but it looks like the Princess of Jahad is doing something similar on her team?

Now we ask how many of these three words can be used to describe anime other than the intended one.

Woof... Well it's practically it's own genre. Following Ranma you've got:

Futaba-kun change: the low-budget 'b-movie' version of Ranma
Birdie the Mighty: traded in the comedy for a serious plot
Tenshi na Konamaiki: a real indie gem where I learned most of my "modern" Japanese slang from
    Akane-chan Overdrive: underrated imo
Kampfer: a little two dramatic for my tastes
Egg of the Elf: a Chinese manga that stopped updating just as it was getting good
Trans Venus: Basically porn, but it did have a coherent plot and character arc
Boku Girl: basically forgot the brawling part after the 3rd chapter
Tensei Pandemic: Boku Girl, but more lewd
Dolkara: more about MMA and anti-bullying than gender-bending

These are just the ones that have multiple volumes.
    Someone else watched Kampfer?

    Color me surprised.

you know I think Slayers might be my favorite anime for real

random fact, did you know Slayers is very popular among old-school spanish language anime weebs because Slayers got a spanish dub back when almost nothing got a spanish language dub?

Though most of them might not recognize the name Slayers, as the series was marketed under the name "Rina&Gaudy", which is how the dub named Lina and Gourry, in a sort of Starsky&Hutch thing. But yeah, mention those names and pretty much every old Spanish anime fan will go "oh, yeah!".

I know the whole "Dragon Slay/Slave" incantation from memory. I am cool and hip.

I can no longer remember the whole thing, because it's been replaced in my mind with the incantation to an alternate version of the spell created by my anime OC that got to hang out with Lina, Cecil Harvey and Ryo-Ohki. I am extremely cool.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised only 148,000 people voted in that poll.

I mean, I voted in that poll, and if it's something that managed to come to my attention then I thought there would be more votes. Though I also have no idea how many votes these kind of things normally get so may be way off.

We're the hippest coolest kids with our copied VHS tapes of bad localization anime. Our magazines that have exactly one anime boob.

    So cool.

Normally popularity polls are done using Japanese only figures by using a cutout from the magazine to write-in who they want to win.

It’s a way to sell more copies as some fan clubs will buy lots of copies to pump up the numbers for their favorite character.

So likely given that this was just a “best drawn face” type contest there wasn’t as much riding on it

Just pretend they kept the name off of the intro for a surprise later.
just like Baccano did with Claire Stanfield.

Having just come off watching The Good Place. I am wondering what people think of Bakarina morally. Like yes her tactic of "be a good person and treat people with empathy" seems to be keeping her safe from a "doom ending" but she only acts that way because she knows there is a certain doom ending(s) is she acted otherwise. Is the way she act morally good? or tainted because there is a personally beneficial motivation?

I'm on a bigger Sawano binge than normal right now

This asshole really wrote an orchestral masterpiece to reflect a conversation between childhood friends, reinforcing their heroic bond, their disdain for authority, and their willingness to evolve in order to fight in a Forever War they unwittingly entered into

and the name of the song is "tooth-i-"

this stupid fucking genius orchestrated a song which is meant to be a call to arms with an opponent who is a friend. it's a climactic moment where everything old, including the scant premise upon which our protagonist stands, must be discarded as he has to turn on someone he pretty much grew up with.

oh, that song? it's called YouSeeBIGGIRL: T:T

    god I fucking love sawano

I think the flashbacks show that she is just like this normally and her intentional methods of trying to avoid flags arent as effective as her just being nice to these people

Catarina doesn't really consider being nice to be part of her plan though. All of her actual plans are super stupid, like "learn to garden because magic and/or exile," and "always have a throwing snake ready. " it's all the stuff she does without thinking about it that are actually breaking the game.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

Always having a throwing snake ready could be an extremely good idea, though. Very few people are going to expect you to throw a snake in their face!

Wasn't one of Catarina's plans to also become good with a sword just in case Geordo tries to kill her? That one sounds pretty solid.

Of course, that one only gets a throwaway line because it isn't stupid and funny.
