Hives are lethal drone-spitting terrors that spawn across the battlefield. Capturing the hearts they leave behind as they die is your key to victory. Each match is a four-on-four fight to be the first team to capture three hearts.
Alpha Hunters
There are no safety nets in Alpha Hunters: once you fall in combat, that's it. Eight teams of two fight to be the last team—or solo hunter—standing. If your teammate dies, you can form a temporary alliance with another hunter, but that temporary truce will be broken if both of you make it to the final three.
Harvester Command
Essence harvesters are scattered across Crucible's surface. Each one you control generates Essence points for your eight-player team. Each harvester your enemies hold will cancel out your own. You’ll need to control a majority of harvesters in order to rack up any Essence—the more, the better. You can also take out enemy hunters for points. The first team to 100 points wins!
I've been playing primarily as drakhal and having a good time in general. The games in a pretty early state though and it's kind of shocking how many very basic features it launched lacking. Having said that I think the bones are their for a really cool shooter/moba hybrid thing.
Edit: I should say I've only played heart of the hive.
All the characters are decent but mobility characters like Mendoza / Torsca / Summer seem to have an edge since you can just disengage to heal
Reminds me of other 3rd person moba/shooters like Gigantic
Yeah honestly that inability to escape is probably one of my bigger complaints with it at the moment. in traditional mobas, or even in something like gigantic the presence of towers or friendly creeps give you the chance to recover from a mistake. In crucible it really feels like if you accidently start a fight you shouldn't have your just kind of stuck dying most of the time and it leads to me feeling like I need to be overly cautious.
But man does it feel good to just get in the middle of a group of guys with Drek send just cause havoc with my axe

I've really been digging Tosca, even if I'm still garbage at actually hitting people with her shotgun consistently. The comparison to Gigantic feels apt, it has a similar feel, which to me is a plus, that was possibly my favourite competitive game period. You know. Before it died. I almost wish this were an Ubisoft game, at least then I'd feel confident it wouldn't be abandoned the moment it's not the next big thing.
I do wish even a single of the friends I play with was into PVP games (MtG aside), solo queue makes for swingy matches and Alpha Hunters is a complete crapshoot. My Tosca keeps getting paired with Bugg and a team with no burst damage just does not work in that mode.
I... huh. I got an ad that Amazon was releasing this and I thought maybe it was a new thing or beta. Signed up, hopped in, and it's a multi-year old dead game? There's not even games firing.

Its more of a multi-month old dead game.
So many devs left Guild Wars 2 for... this.
Amazon Studio's batting 0-2 so far, maybe 0-3 with New World. I think there may be some problem at the top.

I mean, to be blunt... GW2 is not exactly a shining paragon of game design by any means. Not compared to the lofty hights of GW1, and as i understand it, Anet lost most of the GW1 developers on the way to GW2.
GW2 is fantastic and one of the best MMOs ever released. I'll hear no talk otherwise.
Look, they never brought back Bunny-Thumpers and that's criminal.
(For those curious: Back in GW1, Multiclassing was an inherent thing. A popular build was Ranger/Warrior using Hammers, and Ranger's hammer animation had them... hop. For some reason.

Word from my man on the inside is that the Dev teams over at Amazon have Infinity Budget and very little oversight BUT none of the teams have a strong creative director at the helm. It is all, mostly, design by committee and a reactionary one at that.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
I remember when Kate (of Acquisitions Inc. and maybe these very forums if you go back far enough) left Arenanet for Amazon Games to work on this, and the fact she left in like...a year? Really set off warning sirens for me.
While I never played Crucible (and likely wont now), I did play New World and none of this is surprising. As a huge MMO and multiplayer fan, I found New World to be beautiful and polished, but uninspired and shallow. It felt like a movie with really good writing, talented actors, gorgeous special effects, and overall great production, but piss-poor direction.

It's almost like amazon has no idea how to sell a new product.
