I'm trying to pinpoint exactly at which point in the last 15 years of reading Gunnerkrigg Court three times a week I lost track of what was actually going on.

"Maybe it will all become clear next week"

I find my interest ebbs and flows with one brilliant sling bringing me back. This has my full attention.

If you don't remember something, you don't know exactly what you don't remember.

Please recall that Bubbles’s memories were not “lost” - she wished to temporarily suppress them, because PTSD and grief were destroying her life, so she could get to a better place to process them. She chose the wrong black market memory hacker though, who through incompetence or malice ended up deleting them and then replaced them with kill-code as insurance. Then pretended the procedure went perfectly and used the (non-existent) unlock keys to effectively enslave a high-performance war-bot as her personal bodyguard and mechanic.

    Then Faye arrived.

Gunnerkrig has an eerie quality to it where I’m never sure if something is actually happening or not. Has the story progressed? Will some lore be divulged? I’m not sure but look over there it’s Jones I love them.

Like, a lot has gone on, in the ways lives do, but this chapter could honestly be leading up to an endgame or the last page might be a joke at Kat’s expense or a just a cute moment with Reynard.

In terms of story telling if we say K6BD is swiftly ascending to the heavens, Gunnerkrig is the tending of a English garden. It cuts, it plants, it waits, enjoys the bloom but ultimately seems happy to move on to the next bit of the garden without making anything final.

Gunnerkrig has to me become a story about Kat's slow ascension to godhood. Everything else is just flavor around that.

But, how did they time travel? Was that something Kat created or something that happened to them?

The whole conversation leading up to this is Kat talking about how the impossible things she keeps seeing leads to to great discoveries, and that there being upward of two time travelling copies of Annie have led her to this

She's recreated Loup's work with Annie in bird form. WAS THIS COYOTE'S PLAN ALL ALONG.

Well, not the bird shape. That part is 100% Kat.

I still don’t think Coyote plans as much as people think. He’s merely such a god he can’t end up on the losing side. He’s like a chess player teaching an opponent whatever he likes, and adding new pieces and taking them away whenever he likes.

I do not for a second think he has to abide by his death and can just pop back in whenever, and strip Loup of power which is still his, and always was. If anything he’s set up a way for the heroes to undo it because that’s a better story, and Coyote is sustained by his own stories.

Edit: Which is maybe why he’s setting up Kat as his opposition?

And nothing in that says that part of the PTSD and guilt could have had nothing to do with losing a lover into the bargain.
Faye's stated issue is 'what if'. It doesn't need to have really happened, it just needs to have possibly happened.

    Kill One Angel
If you're going to kill someone publicly and violently there is no excuse for looking terrible
“Enyis reached the city of Golden Flowing Water, which was at the time the most brutal domain in the world. For spitting in public there, one could lose a finger. It was a thirsty, conquering city that took many slaves, enjoyed the whip, and worshiped the sword.

Enyis was surprised to find the streets sparkling clean and orderly. The buildings were well constructed, airy, and it was scattered with well tended gardens redolent with many colorful flowers.

‘They must enrapture you with splendor,’ said the Boar King, who had noticed Enyis’ confusion. ‘Otherwise, you might look down and notice the blood-matted beast who shoulders this city, and your mind will fill with unpleasant truths.'”

It's interesting note with the possible exception of his honor guard (the armor makes identifying any characteristics difficult) it seems like there really are no women at all in positions of authority in his empire. It's leaning more and more into it.

Not saying either way. I was more addressing the hypothetical that milski put forward, that seemed to imply that what happened was accidental or likely to happen again.

Yeah. Solomon David is 100% "Women need to be protected" (which in reality means "be decorative and excluded from power").

One day, in a few thousand years, some archaeologists are going to unearth a hard disk with the fragmentary remains of someone’s complete archive of K6BD and get some very strange ideas about religion in the year 2050.

Wouldn't be surprised if him raising shitloads of sons and then the sons growing old is somehow a condition for Salami Daves immortality.

Or if he has to be in careful internal balance or something, so that the slightest scratch on his swole body will cause him to explode (the ultimate glass cannon).

I am assuming Kat only ever made one bird and just time copied it, maybe she figured out something bad happens with that?

Maybe she has to send one of the annies back to the future or something?

I guess this does make Ysengeim right about the forest having a legitimate complaint about the bird robot being on the forest side all those chapters ago.

Damn, each knight shown has a different helmet stylings, esp the helmet brims, and if detail allows it, shoulder pad/armor detail are also different.

The demiurges just don’t care, really.

They care about what happens if one of them gets the key and Jagganoth specifically but otherwise they don’t really care.
