It’s just a webcomic, Michael, what could it cost? Twenty dollars?

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I wish truly micro, micro transactions were feasible. Like I paid 1 to 5 cents to the author for every webcomic I read. (Transaction fees make this impossible)

People with 100,000 views per comic would be filthy rich.

Scott McCloud proposed that like 15 years ago, but at the time ad networks still made enough sense that you could give the comic away for free, and make more money off ad impressions.

Now Patreon is kinda doing that but you still have this problem of a for-profit company being the gateway between the audience and the artist, and them being able to decide who can use the platform.

There's nothing preventing people from running a Patreon style thing directly from their webcomicsite except for overcoming the trust barrier people put up when a site asks them to enter their credit card details.

It's both too much money (1 dollar minimum) and too much effort (basically subscribing individually to each person). And I don't mean to sound rude when I say a webomic artist doesn't deserve a dollar. Just not for a dollar for a single comic. And sure, I want to pay for artists I've followed a long time, but suddenly I'm trying to gauge a fair amount. And when do I re-up payments again? It's too much to think about for one of a hundred artists I follow.

In my perfect ideal world, we'd have google pay attached to our chrome browser. You load a webpage with pay content. It's a big red button that says 1 penny to view comic. You click it, you can see the comic. 1 penny is moved from your google pay account the author. And if you're tired of clicking it every time, you can ok your browser to always pay a penny when you load that specific page.

It is too bad that ad revenue doesn't pay as well as it used to.

Credit card companies are just as much middlemen as patreon are, and limit what they are willing to give the time of day to.

Pretty sure the blockchain will sort all of this out when it comes into its full glory. Once all the scoffers and naysayers are vaporized I'm sure there will be enough of us left to support a thriving webcomic industry a microbit at a time.

if blockchain causes more people to lose all their money they will no longer buy food which means farmers stop making food

no farmers = no food waste

PayPal would never hold on to money on shaky legal grounds for years in order to profit off the interest.

    Certainly not.

Man, way to fall into that trap, you should use Venmo instead. The hip, alternative pay method for cool kids... that PayPal bought to make sure there was not actually a hip cool alternative to PayPal.

Note: Venmo was probably never good in any case, but still.

Personally I like paypal back when it was part of ebay. venmo is meh to me as I see so few asking for it compared to the long list of questionable ones
But things like cashapp seems really iffy but then it's a slippy slide past that of other online payment ways
