This was one of the worst places Cam could have gone for me.
I wanted to root for him to come back and be amazing and show the Panthers they were fools for giving up on him.
But not like this...not with the Patriots.
Honestly it's way past time for one of the Panthers' stupid cuts to shoot them in their collective dick and I hope Cam gets a ring just to spite them.
I don't and I honestly don't understand what Cam has done to engender such good will. He pouts, he quits, he is a poor sport and his play style was always on a time line because he never bothered to develop the nuanced game that allows for a long career. His body was breaking down when the Panthers let him go for a reason and they let him go because he is a lousy leader who was becoming a liability on the field. He may have gotten healthy and the Pats might get a good year or two out of him, but I dont understand the growing sentiment that he is owed a superbowl. There are dozens of guys who have retired in just the last two years without getting a ring that I think are more deserving.
This is just so excruciatingly off base that I don't know where to even start.

doesn't look like it.
He missed one season due to injury and his team gave up on him.
He's done some stupid shit during his career. The incident with that reporter a few years back, and I guess the Super Bowl press conference, although I don't remember much about that, only that he walked out, which...whatever.
I'd still rather have Cam over half the QB's in the league. Stupid Patriots.
The only part of Cam I have seen be consistently rough is how much his game changes once he starts getting rattled. I admit to not following his career super closely, but I have been left with the impression that an early sack or two can change him from MVP to below average with remarkable speed. The Superbowl against the Broncos is an example of what I have seen. Mind you, as a Saints fan I don't have a ton of experience watching a defense good enough to tackle put this into practice a ton so if I have gotten a bad impression from odd games please let me know. Cam is also good enough at the game to make it actually difficult to put into practice as well, which might make it appear like more of a thing.
All that said, even if it is true I think Belicheck is a good enough coach to know how to work with it. This isn't some insurmountable deal breaking weakness for Cam. It ain't like he is some tiny QB waiting to be snapped in half.

Belichick famously stormed out of the 18-1 Super Bowl without shaking any hands and acts like an asshole in literally every press conference. Cam walked out once because a Broncos defender was loudly answering questions on the other side of a curtain between them and that was somehow a travesty.

This is not a response to anyone in particular but I think it's specifically funny/sad that Cam has a reputation as a quitter because he didn't break himself in half to fall on a fumble in a Super Bowl he would eventually lose 24-10.
Against Peyton Manning, who got headlines like "Peyton Manning's career finally whole after Super Bowl 50 win" for a game in which he was the worst Super Bowl winning QB of all time only two years after his previous Super Bowl appearance in which he was beat 43-8.

The quitter mentality never made much sense to me to be honest. I can never remember a game where I thought the Saints ability to run up the score on offense would somehow be super helpful against the Panthers. The number of close games (won and lost by both teams) seems above average to be honest, but again rough memory. Dude plays all 4 quarters the best he can play it.

Cam Newton is a quitter, which is why he lost in Tuscaloosa and lost the national title.

This was because the Panthers' gameplan after clearly being outclassed at the line of scrimmage was consistently "You're on your own, make something happen"
The 2003 NFC Championship game is pretty memorable to me for the Panthers breaking Donovan McNabb in half on multiple plays. It was brutal, and the Eagles did jack shit to stop it.
With the exception of the Wildcat gimmick, this is by and large every team's MO when it comes to mobile quarterbacks, exacerbated because of the ire POC QB's get. The "not a pocket passer" tag is largely a myth derived from the fact that most teams couldn't be bothered to pass protect nor game plan better schemes to strengthen their weaknesses whenever they have someone who can scramble

The "quitter" accusations came long before that Super Bowl.

This is a pretty fair assesment. I think part of that is how much freedom he was given to adjust things. When he was asked to stick to the plan, and the plan was bad, you would get those games where he got annihilated. But then when he was running no huddle and allowed to call audibles, he was consistently shredding defenses in the air and on the ground. Accusations that Cam can't read defenses or adapt are patently false. Rivera, while a fantastic locker room coach was pretty notorious for not being able to adjust well in-game. Furthermore, they always talked about limiting Cam's running to preserve him (hilarious how they mismanaged his injuries anyway looking back) but when he was actually allowed to make adjustments at the line like a QB is supposed to, he was superb.

The Panthers also overperformed wildly that season. Their receivers were a bunch of dudes no one heard of after Benjamin got hurt. Cam carried his team that year in a way that only occurs in college football anymore. Had he won that Super Bowl it would have unequivocally been the greatest single player season in league history.
Mainly the offense, the defense was already pretty stacked, but yes, the WR corp and the O-line were made from spare parts. Michael Oher was our left tackle and our best WR was Ted Ginn. Secondary was above expectations with two sophomores and Kurt Coleman but the D-line, Linebackers, and Josh Norman were a known quantity.

Carolina led the league in time of possession that season. The defense was solid but benefited from Cam keeping the ball moving especially compared to Denver, who relied on their stellar defense more than anyone.

I mean it's fun to speculate but given that there is a very real chance of no football this year and Cam's deal with the Pat's is for one year, he may not get a chance to do much of anything.
I can't root for the Pat's. If he wins a ring, that's great, but I'd rather root for Lamar. And I know he's younger but you never know. It may have been crazy to think that Andrew Luck wouldn't ever even be in a Super Bowl early in his career.

I won't root for the Pats, but Cam as their QB means I would go out of their way to watch them and if they did end up in the Superbowl it could put me in a situation similar to last year where I was definitely rooting for KC but wouldn't have been broken up if the 49ers won.
Call them the Pigskins. It allows fans to still reflexively refer to them as the 'skins and sets them up with an easy alternate nickname as the Hogs, which has roots in the team's history back in the mists of time when they were actually good. Plus if teenage boys want to make a crude joke about the team, rather than defaulting to the racist slur they can call them the Balls.

If Snyder caves to the economic pressure Clark Hunt and my Chiefs should be up next. Over the last few months I've come to embrace them needing a change and a fresh non-racist/shitty connotation.

It's a tough call. On the one hand, Dan Snyder is a loathsome racist dollar-vacuum who should be fired into the sun. On the other hand, as long as he owns that team, MY team has a competitive advantage in the division.
I vote that we let him continue running the team, but the name has to change, 80% of its profits have to be donated to indigenous causes and he needs to spend a few years in a medium-security prison to think about what he's done.

While the intransigent shitheadedness of Dan Snyder must never be discounted, it's wild to see any corporate acknowledgment of this
