As a Sisters player I'm extremely annoyed by the super melta Primaris unit. Just better than the Sisters equivalent in every way, for fewer points (based on the PL)

The unit probably be about 100-120 points. I am thinking 35 points a model? Just by stats and PL.

No way, the new morale rules are FAR more forgiving for hordes.

Also the board being smaller helps in a lot of subtle ways.

My friend and I were having a chat, and we think that monofaction Ultramarines, Deathguard, and Thousand Sons will be able to run their Primarchs without paying a CP cost for a Super Heavy.

I am kind of upset about the marines getting the aspect warrior weapons and gear but don't get the other stuff
Still I am curious how the eldar will be in this edition. I don't have any Haemonculi stuff since I was playing with a wych heavy drukhari force or a kabal with wyches kind of one. I am tempted to get some Haemonculi stuff though even though I am not fond of being forced to take it but I was thinking about building a solo force for combat patrols of them

still with work being total hell for various reasons I really do want to do my goal of painting my swarm just it's too hot right now to prime and I do have to set aside an area for painting them and storage since the bag and box is not going to cut it

I did not order Pariah and the other stuff as work was really bad this week

I'd be more upset about non Superheavy Lord of War like Primarchs costing CP is every faction had access to such a monstrosity.

That seems to be the niche that they're giving marines these days. Same as a unit in a different army, but... more.

At least they're not quite as unimaginative as the admech swooping hawks.

40k seems to have too many units by now to come up with something particular new, it seems. Although the cryptothralls are relatively unique.

I'm trying to rein in my irritation at every new Marine unit looking like a flat best-in-class version of whatever niche it's occupying, but it's getting very difficult to do so. It's also not like Marines don't have plenty of synergies to work with, either; Eradicators are going to be even more terrifying in a Salamanders or Raven Guard army.

I really don't know what's going on with whoever's been designing the new Marine rules that have been released over the last year or so, but it seriously feels like they're intended for a different game system than any other faction.

I'm guessing/hoping that a lot of the newer stuff has been designed with 9th edition in mind, and once we have the complete picture things are going to look a lot more balanced

  • honoverehonovere Registered User regular
Was it already known that standard game length in 9th is 5 turns?

    from the GSC faction focus:
This, combined with the extra Command point per turn, means that over the standard* new edition game length of 5 battle rounds, you’ll have at least 17 in a game.

Eh, maybe. The fact that their special rule comes with the downside that they can't split-fire doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence. They're assault weapons, maybe at least go with making them count as heavy if they want to double-tap.

    I had a question about Chaos/imperial knights
I don't have either book so I know the larger mechs are in the super heavy selection but can you build an army of the armigers?

Yes, but it's also what a bio-engineered apex murder monster should be, or a centuries old space elf devoted to mastering a single aspect of war should be, or whatever your pet faction might happen to be.

I wish the centuries old space elves didn't have such terrible models.

My nostalgia love for my first army is strong and I'd be on that train regardless of rules.

I also don't necessarily mind them having better stats than similar units.

But don't give them near-universally better stats and make them cheaper than similar units. That takes the piss.

I dunno. I don't play armies that can have more than 20 people, admittedly, but morale was never a big deal when I did run twenty due to the stratagem to ignore morale....the new rules being more forgiving for morale just means I get to save some CP. Even when I had multiple units of 20, there was usually even more to help....Necrons already have LD 10, for example, and a warlord trait to have those close ignore morale etc.....

That stratagem to auto pass morale, as far as I know, still exists, but now larger units have to deal with blast weapons and coherency issues. I don't think morale changes counterbalance that.

well in 2000 I remember someone being rather vocal about why they can play with a army of mostly dreads and being an ass about it

I have 4 Armigers two meltas and two with the autocannon. Because of the preview and other things I thinking about going chaos with them but I was looking at the bigger mechs since then
But I was probably going to get the book first and do the armigers to see what it's like

I don't think heavy will be all that much of a drawback next edition with hit modifiers being capped at -1. Heavy weapons seem to be getting better every edition.

The best at everything isn't super compelling design though. Plus it kind of steps on the Eldar's Aspect Warrior thing of super specialists if the Astartes or AdMech can field a better version of Fire Dragons or Swooping Hawks. That's not even getting into the crunch of what happens if you take these tank murderers and slather them with all the special rules that Astartes have access to.

    Nothing new in the preview.

But GK are a fucking frightening force after PA.

GK paladins properly buffed are nigh unkillable by most armies. Their mortal wound output is nuts. And they can do a shit ton of fire.

The Paladin blob is the only truly dangerous unit on the board in a match vs. GK, everything else is way overcosted for how quickly it dies. Someone at GW reads "each one can smite, has a stormbolter, and a force sword, wow what a unit!" without considering how easily the tac marine profile gets gunned down.

Psychic Awakening was a big buff and I'm glad for it, Paladins were my favorite unit anyway, but every other unit in that book, especially the Terminators, needs a lot of help.

It's a book with what, 10 total units? I'm glad it has a gimmick that works at all at this point, given the state they were in pre-PA.

Grey Knights have always had some of my favorite fluff but in modern 40K there was almost no reason to play them. At least there is now.

The biggest hit to enclaves is that while you can take more commanders than anyone else, now it costs CP.
