I'm probably not going to be inside a cinema for a year...

Is there anything like a release date?

    I watched The Platform.

I did not like it on basically any level.

Fiancee and I saw an ad on Netflix for "Ju-On: Origins" and she couldn't recall whether she'd ever seen the original movie, so we watched it.
I last saw it probably 14 years ago. I remembered it being slow and confusing. I didn't find it confusing this time but it was definitely still slow, which is weird because it has all the elements that should make it an effective horror movie. It just absolutely failed to ever establish any sense of dread.

Birds of Prey And the Really Long Title is a fine movie.

It's the best DCU movie that isn't Wonder Woman, so good job at clearing that 6" hurdle, I guess.

I think Shazam raised the bar for "2nd best DCU movie" quite a bit from where it was before.

I wonder whether the Wonder Woman sequel will be able to recapture the first film's personality and energy - though I'm not sure Gal Gadot will be enough to drag me back to the cinema. The cavalier way they seem to bring back a character who sacrificed himself in the first film doesn't help.

The trailers are definitely cavalier about it but I'm pretty confident the movie's got more going on there. Pedro Pascal and that 80s energy were enough to get my interest but yeah, I'd rather drop $20 to watch it at home if they'll let me.

It’s kind of fitting, Mel Brooks being the last of the group

He brought so many of them together; Gene Wilder, Madeline Khan, Harvey Corman, Tim Conway, . . .

Ah shit, someone wrap Mel Brooks in bubble wrap. Uh, not too tight around the head tho.

Shazam is probably my current fav for DC flicks, that bit near the end with them saying the name was really, really great. I feel like they did such a great job of adapting the source material (faithfully, imagine that hello Cassandra Cain why the fuck even use the name if you're going to alter the character that much wharrbggblll!) and made a really fun flick in the process. My wife went in blind but really enjoyed it (and hunky dude who played the doctor on mrs. maisel). If only they'd gotten Cavill at the end.

I enjoyed Birds of Prey well enough. It wasn't my favorite DC movie but it was no BvS or JL. But the mooks were awfully accommodating to those ladies. Most just standing there waiting to be smacked or going limp when someone needed to a flourish or finishing move. I sure liked how colorful the movie was. The garish color grading was on point. I noticed some pretty deep lore cuts at times. The writers definitely studied the source material. I hope we eventually get to see Cas dawn her iconic Batgirl outfit.

Edit: For the record, Shazam was my fav DCEU movie followed by Aquaman and Wonder Woman tied for 2nd place. I feel like 1984 will supplant both for my number 2 spot.

My list goes WW, Shazam, Birds of Harley, Aquaman, JL, Suicide Squad, and BvS. Only the last two I would call bad enough that I wouldn't voluntary watch it again.

You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.

I think Wonder Woman is a much better movie (and is also actually good), but I'll admit it's just a very conventional take on a superhero movie done very well, while BoP has a very distinct voice and style and is trying to do something different.

(Well, kinda different. It feels like a natural progression from what I think Suicide Squad was trying to be, but Suicide Squad was straight up garbage.

Looking back now, it feels like someone wanted SS to be BoP, but was held back by someone who wanted it to be BvS. I don't know if that's at all what happened, but that's what the schizophrenic tone and tin-ear dialogue seem to suggest.)

WW was dull and had a lot of story points that were kind of grating for me. Suicide Squad was awful, Aquaman was....fine? It was a lot but none of it stands out. Justice League was heart breaking in a way because there were these little bits of a good movie trying to shine out from under all the shit and it just didnt happen.

Shazam is the only DC movie that was fine with being funny.

WW would have been a lot better if the ending didn't come down to a super powered fight and a beam in the sky.

I was super hoping Diana's entire thing would be she was wrong about people being inherently good, and the ending would've been about her just trashing everything and disappearing.

That felt like where the movie was going, but it veered off into "just kidding, here's a stupid ending."

I loved Aquaman's brand of stupid. It was glorious. Shame Amber Heard is embroiled in a whole mess. I've heard that shes not coming back for the second movie, which, uh... she was one of two main characters, so that's rough. I think at this point it's just rumor, though.

WW is fantastic up until a certain point. I think the most consistent is Man of Steel, though oddly enough, my favorite highs probably come from BvS or Suicide Squad. Both are deeply flawed films, but they still manage to be oddly entertaining. (And I think they absolutely nailed Amanda Waller, my favorite scene was her and Batfleck just exchanging veiled threats with each other.)

Is Dark Knight not a DC movie?

Cause I think it's almost as good as BoP(atFEoOHQ), and I think most people don't have my particularly emotional connection to extremely extra weirdos. Like I'd have thought more people would think TDK is better.

Y'all are talking like DC studio, and not DC properties? or something...

We're talking about the DCEU continuity that started with Man of Steel. It didn't get referenced here for the same reason we didn't reference the Richard Donner Superman series.

I mean, if we're opening up consideration to ANY DC movie, then obviously the best is Green Lantern.

More films need to end with the protagonist committing suicide just to confront the devil but getting redeemed at the last minute and getting to give the finger to the devil only for the devil to spite the protagonist by bringing them back to life.

Returns is a great visual exploration of German expressionism and can be watched gleefully with the sound off

Unfortunately, it’s when the sound is on and people are talking that’s the problem
