A movie that's 44 years old, yeah. Seems like it'd not be a commonly known reference.

I thought it was a reference to the movie Logan. Y'know, he gets old, and then he dies at the end.

It is certainly a movie I am only aware of via the material that references it.

That's literally the twist of the episode. The evil bar owner mentions he named the bar after Logan's Run, and when the 30 something main characters asked him how he knew about Logan's Run the Zoomers attacked him, exposed that he was using makeup to look younger than he was, and then savagely murdered him as the Millenial main characters escaped.

After letting the blink-and-you'll-miss-it opening for Close Enough play normally for five episodes I finally slowed it down to see what's actually happening. Turns out it's pretty much the story of how these characters all ended up living together!

    1) Josh and Emily met.
    2) They had Candice but couldn't find a house they could afford.
    3) Bridgette divorced Alex and threw him out.
    4) Bridgette invited her friend Emily to move in along with the family.
    5) Josh told his friend Alex, who was looking for a place to stay, to come stay with them, too (this implies Josh was unaware of Alex and Bridgette's past; maybe he hadn't seen or talked to Alex in a long time and had never met Bridgette before)
    6) A floor plan of the apartment is shown along with each character's preferred method of rent payment (Bridgette's mom pays her rent for her, Emily writes checks, Josh uses some kind of app, and Alex pays cash).

It's kinda impressive they did this in lieu of explaining the characters' pasts how they know each other, and how this living arrangement came about during an episode.

So, comic-con's going virtual this year in a couple weeks, and you can watch the panels online. As far as western animation, there's a shitton of stuff: all currently-running Fox shows, Archer, Solar Opposites, Cartoon Network stuff, new Looney Tunes, Close Enough, Thundercats Roar, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, an Airbender retrospective, Infinity Train, 12 oz Mouse, "HBO Max Adult Animation" (which is a hodgepodge of Robot Chicken, Final Space, Primal, Samurai Jack, Black Dynamite, and Lazor Wulf), Crossing Swords, new Syfy animated stuff, the upcoming Phineas and Ferb movie, and an upcoming Netflix thing called Hoops. No Disney stuff other than Phineas and Ferb (and arguably the prime-time Fox stuff), though.

Yeah. I really wish this was part of the actual pilot. It fills in a lot of gaps with Angel and makes him (her? honestly don't know here) a lot more rounded and sympathetic while giving the reason he was at the hotel, which was pretty badly lacking from the pilot.

It's located here, and has the warning at the start.

Some of that is probably trying to make sure it's not the "Angel and Alastor Show", since those two are the most immediately compelling.

I was driving just now and randomly started remembering all my favorite scenes from Teen Titans Go (which I unfortunately haven't watched in a while).

I'm sharing these clips both because they're hilarious and to remind myself to start watching Teen Titans Go again.

That show teased Foxxy/Clara in the first episode and never really went back to that well. Now I find that Cree and Tara were getting filthy together and I'll never see it?

    Worst. Timeline.

Watched the first season of Close Enough. I liked it even more than Regular Show, honestly. Probably because I'm in that age group and can relate to some, but not all of the stuff they're going through.

BTW, there's going to be an hour long Close Enough panel live stream TOMORROW, July 23, from 3 PM to 4 PM.
JG Quintel, creator of the Emmy Award-winning Regular Show discusses his new show HBO Max series Close Enough with a panel and table read. Close Enough is a surreal animated comedy about a married couple, their five-year-old daughter, and their two divorced best friends/roommates all living together on the east-side of Los Angeles. Jason Mantzoukas (Alex), Gabrielle Walsh (Emily), Kimiko Glenn (Bridgette), and Jessica DiCicco (Candice) will join Quintel (Josh) to discuss the show's themes of navigating the transitional 30's, juggling work and kids, and pursuing your dreams, while avoiding time-traveling snails, stripper clowns, and murderous mannequins. Moderated by Regular Show's William Salyers.

For people not interested in Close Enough (somehow) but interested in the livestreamed panels of Comic Con (which starts TODAY) here's a link to a personalizable schedule:

Watching the Close Enough Comic Con @ Home stream now. The guy who voiced Rigby on Regular Show is moderating.

Apparently the show's original title was "Splitting Rent" but was changed to "Close Enough" because the title could be construed in multiple ways ("Close Enough to your friends, Close Enough to the life you want, Close Enough to Regular Show, etc).

J.G. Quintel also confirmed "Logan's Run'd" as his favorite episode of season one right before playing that episode's cold open.

Jason Mantzoukas looks exactly the goddamn same as his character Alex.

EDIT: No news on more episodes, unfortunately.

Amphibia is back and showing season 2. This show, for me, it scratching the Gravity Falls itch, in a way that I expected Owl House to but which it ultimately hasn't. Owl House is fine, but Amphibia is the good stuff.

And speaking of Gravity Falls... (0:55).

I feel like the show was just getting warmed up. The biggest bad guy is finally full-on hitting his stride, the magic side of the world is kinda falling into chaos, the human side is a mess, and we're only just starting to get into the actual dragon stuff.

Keep in mind that each of these "seasons" is half the length of what seasons used to be, so four seasons is more like two seasons. Combined with the prior seasons, that's about 3-4 full-length seasons which is a solid run and probably about the sweet spot for a good story-driven animated series.

Infinity Train is a masterclass in worldbuilding through showing, not telling. The series does little exposition, instead setting up big reveals through small details. And the concept of the Train is an incredible setting, improved with the creator being willing to tinge it with darkness and malice. The Train is an eldrich horror, and it's quite capable of killing people.
