Anyone recognize at least the chest and gloves here? Spotted this on a Bounty Hunter LP and I was thinking of maybe getting that stuff if available.

Chest is the Outlander Scavenger Breastplate if you’re still looking

My BH has been wearing it for a while

Yeah, what's missing most from swooping is the sensation of speed, which I suspect is a game engine limitation. It's fun enough, though. It's weird--the "GOTTAGOFAST" faction is the one I have the most trouble completing the time trials for, and I don't think their time limit is actually set any lower.

Granted I was hoping for a more in-depth story than what you get as you progress the reputations, but I'm not very far along, maybe it gets better.

Also there's no way this event takes place when it does. Chapter 3, or Hutt Cartel, definitely. I refuse to believe that even among the swoop gangs there's not one person who recognizes the former de facto ruler of the galaxy who could and did hijack all media outlets when they needed to make a PSA. (Again, that might be a story reveal once you reach a certain level of rep.)

The speed-boost track DOES give you a shorter time limit than the other ones. I guess the idea being that you have to constantly boost to make the limit. I hate it.

The other thing is that they seem to have fixed the thing with reputation items. When 6.0 came it out seemed that you no longer got the items, they were consumed by default--but if you hit your limit you just got no benefit. With the swoop thing, once you hit the cap, the items get put in your inventory.

FINALLY got a perfect run with Horizon's Razor. (As I write this post I realize that their name is a pun; it's basically a reference to the idea of "race you to the horizon/racing the sun".) It is possible! The other thing is that despite what the perfect run achievements say, which is that you have to get all the things, you only have to get enough to complete the bonus mission. Which lets you know just how difficult that perfect Razor run was, because it was Dantooine, where the bonus amount of turbo orbs you need to get is less than the amount you need to complete the run at all.

Hot tip: on Tatooine, once you get on the bike, rather than heading for the starting line, turn around and head for the Sarlacc...

Also, does anyone else have a Tactics Vanguard? If so, is Cell Burst glitched to not consume Energy Lodes since the last patch? i.e., you never lose stacks of Energy Lode from using Cell Burst, so you can just do Cell Burst at maximum power over and over again?

Been watching some videos of SWTOR recently. Just hilarious how things changed between the end of Ilum and the start of RotHC for the Empire.
Grand Moff Regus: "The Empire's power is surging. For the Sith, and all our citizens, we will rule the galaxy once more!"
    hQ6bI8Q.jpg
Darth Marr: "The Empire is losing this war. Barring the unexpected or the miraculous, our total defeat will occur within the next year."

Gee, wonder why we've never seen ol' racist Regus again.

Given that it's the KOTOR-style no-voiced-lines dialog interface, and that he's a Trandoshan and so uses stock Trandoshan lines, genuinely baffled that Raossk, the leader of the Pit Screamers, doesn't get special dialog with a Consular when he starts talking about applying Jagganath to swoop racing.

EDIT: Also, managed to get a perfect run on every track with every faction except for the Horizon Razor on Onderon...though it's not my fault. I saw online that there's a glitch where sometimes you don't get completion of the Horizon Razor perfection achievement on Onderon. Given that I'm pretty sure I should've completed it at least twice--and this is Bioware content that dropped in the past week--I'm inclined to believe it.

Nar Shaddaa Nightlife is back, and with a new tier of slot machine, the Emperor's Grace. The chips to use it can't be purchased; you can only find them when they drop from enemies or win them from other machines.

You can also go to Mek Sha instead of just Nar Shaddaa, but a. regardless of population older computers like don't like Mek Sha, b. there's no way to get there for free right now, c. it's supposed to be an event the Hutt Cartel is putting on, and Mek Sha is a place where they rather violently kicked the Hutts out and very violently insist they stay out, so why would you do it there?

Because there are new quests that take you there, of course! They remain as simple as Nightlife quests in previous years, but it's nice to see them expanding things. Also, completing the quests gives you a buff dependent on your alignment (though it might actually be a reward you choose): light side buffs your chance to win on the kingpin slots, but your reward from the mission is fewer chips, while dark side doesn't affect your chances on the machines but you get more chips to start.

Also one of the quests, the Counterfeit Tokens: Nar Shaddaa quest, is broken, with a mission-critical not spawning in some instances because of course it fucking doesn't, Bioware, and also the new machine is apparently not paying out. Grand. (Hopefully there's a hotfix tomorrow, but Nar Shaddaa Nightlife is not a standard weekly event, so it's not as time-sensitive.)

As for rewards, there are a bunch of new decorations you can buy using the currency you can win on the machines, a new rancor mount (the Kingpin's Predator), a new companion: C1-7W...a gonk droid that's also a claw machine.

EDIT: Also also, the currency for the event isn't legacy-wide, it's by character, fuck off when you just introduced a new event that does account-wide currency.

I didn't have any problems with the counterfeiters spawning at either location, the only issue I had was lots of people wanting to complete that quest in the area and killing them before I had a chance to talk to them. (But they respawned as soon as the other player had killed all the associated mobs).

Also I wasn't able to spend my tokens on the new machine, but seeing as it's not always paying out I guess I should be grateful.

Edit: Oof, I tried the counterfeiters mission on imp side, now I'm experiencing the quest spawn bug. Guess I can't complete that quest impside until they patch it.

Swtor is now available on Steam! Kinda glad it wasn't before, I'm afraid what my total play time would look like.

    This, all of it.
That said, I've now migrated my install over. Per a discussion board topic - when you move your folder into the new one, don't overwrite any files. It would still play, but not give you any Steam features (time tracking, etc), which is the point of doing so.

I dunno if I'd want to put it on steam as I know other mmos like LOTRO suffers issues if you buy things on steam versus in game and other weirdness. I say this even with the SWTOR launcher specifically not patching my game properly like half the time and I spend half the day having to delete and reinstall patches.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Well the thing about that is...BitRaider.

    Steam doesn't use BitRaider.

So arguably it should be better on that front.

  • StrikorStrikor Calibrations? Calibrations! Registered User regular
That all depends on how integrated into Steam it is. Plenty of games (especially MMOs) still use their own launchers and patching processes.

  • ShadowenShadowen Snores in the morning LoserdomRegistered User regular
I'm probably not switching until they make a thing where you can just check a box and give a path and it adjusts things to work with Steam, because even the "copy things over" method would probably take a very long time given the size of the game and the slowness of my hard drive, but I looked it up and supposedly the version Steam installs on your computer doesn't use BitRaider, so much so that if you copy the BitRaider folder over with that method you don't get the Steam overlay.

  • Commander ZoomCommander Zoom Registered User regular

I guess I wasn't using Bitraider myself, but all I had to do was do the initial download of the Steam launcher/files, and then copy my existing directory over, and hit "no" every time it asked if I wanted to overwrite. Wound up with everything in the new directory (and working fine), and an old directory with just the old versions of the Steam files, which I deleted.

Just saw that more steam features are planned for a future update, including achievements.

Hope this move breathes a bit more life into the game. I know the devs have been saying they have some big plans for the next few years, but I'm just always on edge about Bioware being next on EA's chopping block.

If bioware gets the axe it will be because of anthem ( which they said they are reworking but then never said anything again) and the live service dragon age they are making not doing well. I cant imagine that the maintenance cost for this mmo would be enough to kill the studio .

  • Trajan45Trajan45 Registered User regular
All depends on how you define 'getting the axe'. Talent leaves all the time, even though Bioware is still Bioware in name, the folks that may have made their iconic games may not be there today. I doubt Bioware as a brand is going anywhere. Gamers know it by name and it's hard to put a value on that kind of marketing. Even if Anthem is never remade, and the next Dragon Age sucks, I'd still pick up something new from Bioware day 1.

For SWTOR, it would great if we could get engine upgrade. I'd like to see the modern MMO mechanics added in the expansions added to the main game (maybe add a new difficulty level to each flashpoint). Also give them some modern tools to create new content. Sounds like the swoop stuff is hampered by the engine, maybe they could address that. Just depends on how much they want to invest. Do they want to go the Blizzard route investing in it or just keep it running as is with minor content updates.

Yeah I've been starting new characters on Satele Shan because that's where my character in Wampa Milk was, but I just went to check that character as I was going to delete them and restart as the other sub-class of Bounty Hunter (char was only level 10) and uh, realized I was the guild master.

So I too would be interested in knowing where most of the PAers are currently.

I'm mostly off on my own, have been since I started (with non-PA and mostly Euro friends, on what is now Darth Malgus), but a while back (starting shortly after the merger) I made some alts on Star Forge, and now I'm fairly active there.

Due to the time differential, what I'll often do is do group activities on DM around 12-4 PST (8-midnight GMT), then switch to SF later. And if for some reason I want to play off-peak, that's an option too.

Do you, like me, hate opening the commander's share crates from doing heroics at a high level? In my case, it might partly be my mouse to blame, because right-clicking to open the crates is oddly touch and go. Sometimes I would right click on a crate and I'd the animation and the timer and then it wouldn't fucking open five or six times in a row. Just tonight I figured out if you don't click but hold down for like a quarter to a half second, it will open 100% of the time.

Even so, the tedium of opening a bunch of crates at once remains. The method I just described doesn't remove the need to pay juuust enough attention to move your mouse every second or so, and the timing, while not difficult requires a tiny modicum of concentration, and it is so boring. It is the worst part of the Fallen Empire-era expansions.

Except tonight I also figured out you can put a crate on one of your hotbars and press the corresponding number key, and it opens the crate of that type highest-up in your inventory, and it always works and you don't have to move your mouse to open the next one, and for such a tiny mundane thing it is fantastic. Opening crates is now almost soothing. You still have to click to take the stuff in the crate, but the GUI opens up so that the "take all" button is directly under your cursor, and if it is indeed just me and my right mouse button that is the problem, the game is not shy about my left mouse clicks.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know, if you were having the same problem. Probably cut my "opening crates" time in half.

So! Having done the new Nar Shaddaa Nightlife thing, for those who haven't tried it yet:

There is not, in fact, a new companion to get. C1-4W is just an NPC they designed to wander around the casino floor looking cute. I was wondering what the point was, then, until I remembered oh right everyone has like forty fucking companions now while needing at most 10.

Everything except for getting the new mount is easier. The new daily quests make getting chips cheaper, the new buff from taking the "light side" option in the finale quest is like a free Feeling Lucky buff, and the dark option gives you an Emperor's Grace chip. Which, fun fact: you don't lose on the Emperor's Grace machine. Depending on how many of the decorations and things you have or want, the worst result might not even be getting your chip back to play again, but two more of the golden certificates.

The Emperor's Grace machine also has very good odds of handing you 50 Kingpin chips. If you're wondering, that is 3.75 million credits' worth of chips; even without the Feeling Lucky Buff you won't run out of chips before you win something, and when you win an Emperor's Grace chip, the the 50 Kingpin chips prize. So once you get started you'll probably never have to worry about having enough Kingpin chips again, just making sure you have ten or so smuggler chips so you can get the buff. Whereas playing the Smuggler's Luck machine was the slow but cheap way of getting Kingpin chips before, now they're just for getting the Feeling Lucky buff; on the character I took gambling tonight I over 250 chips at once and that wasn't even that many; I saw others in chat talking about having 800 or more.

Ironically, however, even with a functionally infinite amount of Kingpin chips once you play the Emperor's Grace machine a few times, the odds of getting an Emperor's Grace chip from the Kingpin machines is low enough that if you want the Kingpin's Predator mount, it's probably best to acquire the Emperor's Grace chips the natural way with normal questing (most of my toons have picked up at least half a dozen over the past few weeks), where they're about as common as any other purple drop, and then just go to Nar Shaddaa and play the machine, because again, you don't lose. Again, on my gambling character, I had other things I wanted to do with them, including acquiring the Ascendancy Soldier outfit (the character is an Imperial Agent but a Chiss loyalist), so after a couple of hours grinding chips and getting lots of certificates (both cartel and golden), a couple of Wraith mounts, another Phrojo, and far too few Emperor's Grace chips, I did story mode Traitor Among the Chiss, got a single Emperor's Grace chip, went back to Nar Shaddaa, and immediately won the Kingpin's Predator mount.

Then I did a dumb thing and started going through my other characters that had Emperor's Grace chips (again, most of them), and played three of them (winning another Predator) before, after three of them, I realized: wait. I don't really think the look of the Kingpin's Predator is all that pretty anyway, and I already have everything else you can get from this event. They'll probably have more stuff when they do this event again. I should just keep playing the main game and stockpile Emperor's Grace chips for next year.

So yeah, my advice: just figure out what you actually want out of the event, get that, then get back to playing the real game: Space Barbie.

I've had the opposite problem, sort of.
At first I was like "yeah, cash in those Emperor tokens for easy Kingpins! Win all the things!"
But now I have all the things, and lots of Kingpins... and feel compelled to stand there for literal hours, most of the day even, grinding down my chip stacks on all of my characters - playing two machines at a time, being happy when I get a Gold or Cartel Market Certificate, sighing when I get a string of time-wasting/extending "spin again" Kingpin returns, and dreading - utterly dreading - every Emperor drop, because it has a good chance of giving me another 50 chips that I have to spend another 10, 15 minutes grinding down.
It's taken me a week or two, since they finally fixed the Emperor machines, to grind through most of my characters. I'm almost done! ... until I get more Emperor drops from doing heroics and other content. Then it's back to the chip mines for me. :(

I'm fairly certain I'm in Ironic Hell.

  • ShadowenShadowen Snores in the morning LoserdomRegistered User regular
The thing is...you don't have to spend them. If you have all the things, just...let that be. You won't have to spend any money on chips at all next year.

Must have a bad transmitter here. You're not making any sense.

(Actually, you've got a point. Since I'm down to one character with chips on DM, and two on SF, I'm going to leave it like that, just in case they do introduce new anything next year I want. Any chips that drop for others, I'll spend now.)

I've been grinding kingpin machines, but mostly because, as previously stated, I WANT ALL THE DECOS. I spent a fair amount of time grinding for cartel market certificates just to get 100+ of a specific type of wall light to use for my Tattoine stronghole. I am certain to be the only person who actually notices the difference between the new lights I've added and the old decoration I had up in that place.

So I learned the reusable medpac recipe almost immediately after Onslaught came out. By my standards, anyway; I'd say within the first month or so? But I left the other things alone until now. After nearly a week I can finally make the reusable Accuracy/Crit stims. (To be clear: on this alt I did my weekly conquest entirely from crafting and gathering on Tuesday, and I'd already unlocked the purple version of the stim. I didn't get the damn recipe to unlock until today.)

All that for a drop of blood something only two of my characters can use at the moment. Still, that means I don't actually have to learn any of the other legendary Biochem recipes, because no one else can use them. And if I want I guess I can make more and sell them.

Alternately I can take alllll my alts that don't have a crafting skill (I have two of each, one on each side, and the rest just have gathering and mission skills) and make them Biochem and grind them up to 700.

    ...eh, maybe later.

Achievements went live for TOR on Steam today. There are 191 of them.

I immediately got 184. (Three of the remainder are for PVP, which I generally don't do, and four are for doing the Fallen Empire/Eternal Throne chapters on harder difficulties, which I also generally haven't done.)

It's not going to last long, just until other longtime players take the plunge and start going through Steam and/or get today's update, but until then, I am in the top 0.1% of players in the game (it must be true Steam said so), and I will take that inflated sense of self-worth for as long as it lasts.

A quirk of the SWTOR crew skills system is that sometimes it's clear that your companions have the skill(s), but other times - in Flashpoints, for example, when they aren't around - the game acts as if your character does.

During (yet another) Hammer Station run today, this gave me a mental image of a scene stolen modified from Sneakers: my Hunter with a gloved hand to his helmet, nodding and making affirmative noises as he listens to Mako... and then, at the end, he just puts a blaster bolt into the control panel.

And it's probably mostly the SSD part but also at least partly the Steam-doesn't-use-BitRaider thing--patching tends to take as much time as it used to with my old hard drive until it hits about 50%, and then the progress bar goes VOOOOOOP to the right side in about five seconds. (BitRaider tended to take a lot longer when installing the last few percent.)

Agent story complete , It was nice and I loved doctor lokin as a practical evil companion and the excellent ship but man I hated all he other companions . I will eventually do the republic side three stories I’m missing but not anytime soon. Now to get back to my BH and continue to grind heroics while I buy all the convenient legacy perks . Shae continues to be amazing , saw her hit for 50k a few time today , I can see why she was a limited time thing. Just need the rakghoul event and I can pick up lokin for the bH and have him on my main.
