Kraken isn’t as good as Sockeye(s) (I always thought the plural and singular were the same with sockeye but I guess I’m wrong) but it’s still pretty good.

I honestly like Kraken as a team name, and the logo is pretty sweet. I will admit I'm a bit surprised at a new team (it's not a relocated team is it?) showing up, but I suppose plans must have been started well before this whole mess we're in now.

Yeah we’ve known about the team a while now, they just didn’t have a name or logo for like... a year.

Yeah. The team was locked in once the Key Arena renovation plans (fully privately funded babeeeeeeey!) were solidified.

Yeah I figured plans must have been underway for a while, you don't just announce a new team or team name without getting all your ducks in a row, and that takes time.

    I mean, unless you're Snyder.

How good is the safety? Because that's a high price regardless and I'm just wondering if it's a fleecing

He’s very very good. That’s a very high price but he’s good. He can play all over the field and cover basically anybody. Like, he’s not only their best safety, he’s now their best corner and second best linebacker.

He’s a perfect fit for Seattle and they needed the help. If they can piece together an even serviceable defensive line, I’m hype.

Just a quick check, and he went undrafted, was signed by the Chiefs, who played him one game, waivered him mid season, went to the Bucs for three years, and was with the Seahawks for three years, and is now a Jet.

That he clearly isn't on either your or my radar, should tell you all you need to know. He's a journeyman player that might do a moderate job, but he's likely not going to do much besides not cost you the game, as long as you don't have him single cover elite receivers.

The Jets are out their best overall player but considering they couldn't seem to come to terms with extending him this seems like a really great deal for them.

I wouldn't have said either of these teams was "One player away" before this deal and the Seahawks look like they're even farther out still

While Gase might get to use that first pick, I wouldn't bet the house that he gets to use the second.

That’s a lot of stuff to trade for a player in a season where you probably won’t play any games because of a global pandemic

Yeah, not sure how the schedule will go if the season gets cancelled, whether they replay the division picks, reshuffle them, or move on to the following year's schedule (guess it depends on how far into the season they get).

But as it stands, the NFC West have the AFC East as their cross Conference opponents. Due to play the Jets Week 14.

If the season gets cancelled and that schedule is replayed next year, it's possible that the pick Seattle traded will be a Jets wide receiver that is going up against Jamal Adams.

I fully expect them to start, for the reasons you mention. Whether they'll finish, I have my doubts.

I just can't see them playing 17 weeks and the post season without at least one team having a massive outbreak that causes if not a straight forfeiture (or something similar), then a team being forced to essentially field a practice squad that just makes the game played a complete farce. And that's assuming a good portion of the league's best don't decide en masse, "screw this noise", and opt out, again, making some games below a TNF Titans/Jags game.

It appears to be case by case. I was just listening to an NFL podcast from last Wednesday, and part of the news was that the Jets and Giants had declared no fans, and Atlanta was looking to be allowing limited seating (talk of 20K in attendance). They did slap Atlanta around a bit due to Georgia being one of the worst states at the moment in it's handling of the pandemic.

My favorite part about listening to podcast on a time delay, is when they start making bold predictions that you already know are failures. Like how the host of the podcast, a diehard Jets fan, was talking about how there's next to no chance that Jamal Adams isn't still a Jet at the start of NEXT season, and that Adams and the front office work stuff out, and that the talk about the Jets not being able to retain star players is overblown. Made me laugh quite a bit.

So... looks like the speculation that Jamal Adams was just holding out to get paid, wasn't exactly correct.

"Jamal Adams, Seahawks agreed safety would play 2020 on his existing rookie contract"
    - Around the NFL is a podcast/website writers group.

It's now pretty clear he just wanted the fuck outta the Jets.

EDIT: Also means this isn't quite as bad a trade as it could have been for Seattle.

That's consistent with previous rumors. Makes sense that his priorities would vary based on perceived competence of the destination organization (though that doesn't explain why the Cowboys are on the list.)
