I just noticed that one live action magical girl show that I posted about earlier had its last season about phantom thieves, and the new season is about police officers. With characters crossing over to connect everything. Seems familiar...
Annnd it's finally here, the first (limited) look at our next main Rider.
According to translated info, Saber uses the Seiken Swordriver which acts as both weapon and Driver. The gimmick-item for this series are Wonder Ride Books. Saber uses the Brave Dragon WR-Book for his primary transformation. As you can see, there's spots for another which Saber can use for form-changes such as the Peter Fantasista WR-Book seen here and another one apparently based on Jack And The Beanstalk. The secondary Rider is said to be called Kamen Rider Blaze, his primary WR-Book being Lion Chronicles.

So I haven't actually watched Kamen Rider in years. Last one I fully watched was Drive. I started Ghost when it was airing, but after like 4 or 5 episodes I just didn't care and that was the end, I fell off and never came back, other things caught my attention, life stuff, etc.
So I just watched the first episode of Zero One and I love it already, but I'm a sucker for robits and AI and such
I love the mook designs and the first MotW robo hopper was rad looking, and the base Zero One suit is top tier
I can't wait to keep going and I hope it doesn't get fucked too hard by COVID
I do want to go back and watch Build also. I kinda really don't like the Rider designs for ExAid and Zi-O, so I probably won't watch them unless you guys think they're really worth it
Anyway, Kamen Rider is just a cozy show and it's nice to get back into it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

If folks aren't watching Ultraman Z, consider watching it. It uses a nice mix of practical and digital effects, which contributes to the sense that the show is always kind of acknowledging its roots in the 60s.
It's free on YouTube, officially subbed. It's simulcast, and the eps are up for 2 weeks at a time. Right now, eps 4, 5, and 6 are up, with 6 having aired on Friday.
Ep 5 is where the story really starts, so you can hop on there and not really miss anything critical.
And the OP absolutely rips, so even if you don't watch the show, maybe give that OP a listen.
More scans of the new Rider and the show's Secondary have shown up.
Both Saber and Blaze apparently represent elements according to the scans with Saber being based on fire while Blaze ironically is based on water. I was curious how the Swordriver would work as both a Driver and weapon but it seems like the section that holds the WR-Books act as a sheath for the swords, staying in place while the sword's being used.
Here's both of Saber's initial form-changes, overlaying the left-side of his body with new armor. The one on the left is Peter Dragon while the one on the right is Jackun Dragon, the WR-Book for it called Jackun To Domamenoki.
they're a bit much for me but
A) so were ex-aid and build and those seasons are incredibly well-regarded and I'm not a small Japanese child so my opinion's kind of irrelevant
Something interesting to note about their design...
...is how it reflects the WR-Book placement in the Swordriver. The Driver has three slots for Books instead of the four I initially thought and Saber has his core Book on one side which is where his armor mainly appears. When he uses one of the form-change Books, he sets it on the opposite end, leaving the middle slot open which is reflected in the white section of his suit. Meanwhile, Blaze uses his core book in the middle and that's where his armor appears. It'll be interesting to see how his form-changes work as a result.
ExAid put me off due to the armor designs, and once i actually sat down and watched it turned out to be INCREDIBLY good. Well worth your time - all the characters are compelling, the plot comes together fast and interestingly, and Emu is just great all around.
Side note: can i say that after years of over the top final forms, i love how under-stated Zero-Two's design is? It's slick as hell. Zero-One in general has just had amazing suit designs. (Ramapge vulcan is a bit busy for my tastes, but eh, it's not noticable when it's in action)
Also "Let's Give you power!" is a great start up call for it.
I would definitely recommend it. The suits are largely hideous and I found the lead pretty boring, but so many of the other characters (Kuroto, Hiro, Kiriya, Parad, Poppy to an extent) are fantastic and the plot is just bonkers and intense and does some really interesting things

Emu's much better when he's being a manipulative shitbag than when he's being generic nice protag.
Side note: It's interesting to see with Sabre that the multi-rider series trend really seems to be here to stay.
Which is not something i'm objecting to at all - Multi-Rider shows always seem to be a lot stronger in general (I suspect simply because it allows for more complciated storytelling/recurring characters).
So info from the press conference for Saber's coming in.
Our hero is a novelist named Toma Kamiyama who dreams about a special book that holds all of mankind's history and those that protect it. One day he's literally pulled into this special world along with half the city he lives in, a world that not only holds the book and the special swordsman but the monsters they fight too. Now he has to join their order as Saber to not just protect the book but the innocent people now dragged into the battleground for it.
Yeah I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I really liked W, and Riki's next two series whiffed for me (fourze and drive). And now he's hitting it out of the park with Zero-one!
The nice thing about Kamen Rider is it you don't like a series, just wait a year. It's comforting as hell in that respect
Ghost's biggest problem was definitely a lack of narrative focus
like, what the show is actually about changes like... four or five times? it's been a while
I'm still the big Ghost defender, and I think the quality of its cast elevates it to being worth watching, but whoof the lack of anyone at the helm really shows in the final product

I'll give ghost this: it had some EXCELLENT jingles on the belts. And pretty excllent music to go with said jingles.
Also the reveal on why the litlle ghost buddy was such a damn troll all the time was freaking great
can anyone explain what exactly the Ultraman Timeline is because every time I try I get kind of super lost and I swear the Wiki makes it sound like Tiga is both an AU AND somehow set in the future of the main/M78 Timeline?

I'm not a big fan of split color/power Rider suits, but it doesn't look tooo busy. W was nice because it was so clean
They're showing off a lot, how close is Zero One to ending?

When they were showing the various companies that helped build that city that was destroyed, I was hoping Foundation X would've been listed

Zero-one has like 5 episodes left. It's been a good run, here's to a strong finish
Apparently the head writer on Sabre is the same one who did Ghost, so erk.
Then again I have no idea how much influence the writer really has in Toku stuff

A bit late on the Ex-Aid chat but this is probably one of my favorite instrumental themes for a Rider.

Good moment from the Gaim/Drive movie. This is post-series for Gaim by the way so slight spoilers for that series' ending are present.

Yep. And we're only three more episodes I think into the series.
