I feel like you could errata banding to make it not bananapants fairly easily.

I mean it basically boils down to "you get to pick how all combat damage is assigned" anyway.

picking how combat damage is assigned is extremely powerful

at the very least limited would be an absolute shitshow

Banding is the most powerful creature keyword ever printed for limited. It's pants-on-head level of mindfuck for combat math, too.

The problem is that it works differently for attacking and blocking (everyone with banding+one without vs. only one bander needed), it uses the old damage assignment rules (I assign two damage to my 3/3, one to my 2/2, and zero to my 1/1, or alternatively all 3 deathtouch damage goes on the 1/1), and the interaction with Trample is non-intuitive (16/16 tramples in, 1/1 banding blocks and takes 16 damage with 0 going to the player).

Another very real reason it's not getting printed anymore is immediately visible if you look at Banding Sliver.

Watching a close-up card magician competition. It's real good none seem interested in M:tg. Im pretty sure they could switch out cards I was holding in my hand without me noticing.

oh there have definitely been cheaters that utilize sleight-of-hand, most recently usually shuffle manipulation

but ultimately if you're going to learn sleight of hand in order to cheat at games to make money, magic is really not the most profitable direction you could go in

You can maybe limit NuBanding to soulbonded creatures. Don't make it a keyword at first:

"As long as this creature is paired with any other creature, when one of the creatures is dealt combat damage you may have any amount of combat damage dealt to the other instead."

The en-Kor ability was kinda-sorta a fixed banding as well - the whole "0: the next 1 damage dealt to ~ is dealt to another target creature you control instead" thing.

Yeah but this gave us Breakfast Hulk so was it really a worthy fix?

I find cheaters in magic fascinating for this reason. You choose to cheat, and magic is a good game for it, but not that profitable compared to poker or many others. Much less likely to get you shot/beat-up too though.

Ya, this stuff was top end, like, to the point if someone used these techniques to cheat on me, I dunno if I would even be mad. The low brow shuffle sleighters and stuff are pfft.

I want to see one of these champions go to a tourney, Opponent attacks in, suddenly entire board is Yugio.

the few pro cheaters that get caught and actually talk about it generally say they did it because they desperately needed the validation of constantly winning and were generally just sadsacks

Also magic just has high enough variance both in individual games AND in matchups vs the meta that even with perfect play you may not win your games. It's a darn fun game but pro tour structure is more of a least worst than actual best way to find the best player. Which is fine and compelling! March madness is a great spectacle and a terrible way to find the best basketball team. But if you think playing good decks well should lead to consistency, you can be lead into the temptation of "deserving" to cheat as well.

Some uncommons that have been downshifted to common in Double Masters are already legal in Pauper on MTGO, despite the set not being released and the cards not yet officially spoiled as downshifted, only leaked.

I bought my first and last M21 collector booster today, I stumbled across a few at a Target and thought, eh, let's gamble.

Hits were an extended-art Grim Tutor, an extended-art foil Temple of Triumph, a foil regular Chandra, Heart of Fire, and a foil showcase Island. I think I jusssst broke even at $25/pack?
