Not a fan of folk music in any form. Give me the power metal.
I don’t hate metal, but “I like metal” is a personal white flag because of all the racists I know who love it.
Oi. I could say the same about country but I don't because that'd be real shitty to conflate an entire genre of music and the people who like it with fuckheads.
Sub-genre actually. This is what Wikipedia has to say about power metal.
"Themes that frequently feature throughout other metal subgenres, such as religion and politics, are comparatively rare in power metal - albeit not unheard of. Power metal's lyrical themes often focus on fantasy and mythology, camaraderie and hope, personal struggles and emotions, war and death, or combinations of the aforementioned. For example, Finnish band Sonata Arctica have been known for focusing their lyrics of their songs on fantasy but also have many songs based on reality, love and relationships."
The problem goes back a ways. Metal fans as far back as the 80s were the vanguards of “Rap isn’t real music.”
And yeah, country music also has a massive racism problem - see the recent controversy around stations refusing to play Lil Nas X. Doesn’t mean fans of either genres as automatically racist, but the scenes around them have huge racism problems.

Lot of problems in a lot of music genre communities. Trance, for example, has a very very white community in Northern Europe and it's not particularly inclusive. Although some trance DJs have taken steps to try to broaden it, but not nearly enough. How many non-White trance DJs do you get? Barely any.
And then you have Psytrance, which has been legitimately criticised for the amount of cultural appropriation that goes on in festival dress. It's all vedic symbols, crystals, henna, feathers, neon bikinis (and enough hard party drugs to fell a rhino) at Psytrance nights.
It was this annoying gatekeeping thing with my uber toxic masculine friends starting from our teenage years saying "well, *real* men only listen to punk/metal/*sometimes* country", and then one summer camping trip I go to put on our regular nostalgic high school shit, and get scoffed at that "oh actually, *real* men only listen to bluegrass now, we've just discovered this, where have you been?"
Meanwhile, I'm allowed to listen to some Classic Rock and some ironic 80s on my one-trip-a-year, grudgingly, (and frankly they've been doing some *talking*, and they're more than a little sick of that, too...) So cue three *full* days of bluegrass songs I personally find indistinguable and mostly boring (Other genres I wasn't allowed to play even though I tried over ten years, Because, "Dude": hip/hop, pop, indie (unless pre-approved), reggae, r&b, classical, videogame, old time classics, show tunes, ECT ECT)
Also, I knew lefty bluegrass is a thing because they used to brag about their ability to infiltrate those spaces, and act super gross during

Hands Held High by Linkin Park is my go to protest song. There's a ... contemplative quality to it. The rage is there, but it's breathing, experiencing the peace that comes with the conviction of knowing your cause is just. It's very calm-before-the-storm

Did it ever really go away after the boom of country post-9/11? I tried hard to not pay attention to it.

Was country ever not resurgent though? Pop Country seems to really kick off after 9/11 with songs like the Angry American and never felt like it slowed down.

55% voter turnout should be taken as a sign that the government is doing something wrong, much in the same way a school is probably doing something wrong if 45% of their students are failing

Country is apparently popular worldwide specifically because the way that it sounds evokes nostalgia. Like, even with people who don't understand English.
And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple, simple is bliss
Why go against tradition when we can
Admit defeat, live in decline
Be the victim of our own design
The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?

Absolutely. Unfortunately, it's the people voting that get to decide what the problem is and what to do about it.

Only person with a stronger mandate than Obama was Roosevelt in 1940.
Simultaniously makes me mad at Obama for wasting that mandate by playing the friendly negro and Republicans for deligitimizing that mandate.
the fun thing about electoral issues is that they're bad for literally everybody, except for the people who have the power to do anything about them. they're good for them and nobody else.
Also like, half of Sabaton's songs are about WWII.
I've met a bunch of Sabaton fans with questionable political views, to put it mildly. To the point that I just can't help but be initially skeptical of their fans. Which is unfair, and no fault of theirs, and so on. But just, anyone around here in a fucking Sabaton t-shirt and a bunch of nu-nordic tattoos can get a fucking boot down their throat.

Or general Swedish history, just look at the album Carolus Rex.
Seeing them in 2014 I got in a 40 minute string of counterfactuals with Joakim at the merch table starting with what would've happened if Charles XII was able to lead in the field at Poltava.

Yeah, sadly they attract the affliction shirt wearing supremacist assholes in droves. The band themselves aren't that bad, though Joakim can lean nationalist at times, but a good portion of the fan base are asshats.

One thing I have been loving is occasionally finding one power metal band doing a cover of another power metal band's song.
