As a PC and PS4 Pro owner, what is my use case for a $500 console this November? The 'better' version of Assassin's Creed? It looks thoroughly cross-gen, so while I'm sure the next-gen version will have some upgrades, I'm thinking it was developed with the current gen consoles in mind primarily.

i mentioned it when it came up before, Spider-Man was a solid like, 7/10 for me. I'd probably play more of it some day, but i'm definitely not at the point of "i gotta drop five-six hundo to play the new one IMMEDIATELY"
The new Xbox is a day one buy for me... to enjoy current gen games that I've deliberately not played now to get into them later at proper specs. That is a huge edge case that I'm sure would be deeply wasteful to MOST people. But I'm gonna be thrilled by properly patched, decent framerate Jedi: Fallen Order and Ori 2, this November.
I'm not a console player primarily anyway, but with Xbox games all being on PC for less than a single AAA title / year certainly makes me have 0 FOMO.
I'm interested in the tech, and would like it if advanced SSD pipeline is really what its hyped to be, and hope it transfers to PC (even though my current rig probably couldn't handle it)
I like much of the PS4 exclusives, but in the end I only really played.... 7 games on my PS4 for more than 5 hours. And I bought one in 2017.
I may do the same thing I did this cycle: Buy a console late in the cycle and delay a PC upgrade for a year or two. This allowed me to play console exclusives while playing most of the non-AAA stuff on PC (sys reqs are usually much lower).
Currently a Switch has more interest from me than a PS5 or XBX.

We're literally in a recession bording on a depression. Sony and MS aren't stupid; they know their consoles aren't going to sell as well as possible. The launch window for these things is going to be like a year long or longer.
The PS5 launch is still better than the PS4 one. Miles is a hell of a lot more appealing than some Killzone game and Knack.
But generally console launches are almost never good when it comes to the launch lineup. Ironically Nintendo might have the best track record, as they usually have one of their major franchise games ready.

From quickly looking up numbers, it looks like you can already get a fairly affordable M.2 drive that's as fast as the drive in Xbox Series X, while one that's as fast as the PS5 drive is a bit more expensive.
I guess PS5 having hardware dedicated to decompression might be significant.
Godfall is the Ryse: Son of Rome of the PS5 launch lineup. It's a tentpole because there's not much else, but then It'll be forgotten as soon as there are bigger titles available.
