plus he gets to make it 4 hours long and the only people who watch it will be die-hard fans? yeah, seems like a win-win-win.

I watch Stop Making Sense approximately once a month, more if my wife falls asleep early and can't make fun of me for watching Stop Making Sense too much

A fun one I learned yesterday while looking at john Martin paintings (I really oughta make a post in the Art thread but its buried).
    DaneWmUXUAYlzyD?format=jpg&name=medium
Huh, that picture of Satan Presiding at the Infernal Council looks awfully like a certain nerd Emperor.

Anyway, more movies should use John Martin's paintings as inspiration. I was trying to think of some and while CGI blockbuster storms and disasters are somewhat popular, they're rarely shot in the same way that John painted. However, the dust storm in Mad Max Fury Road comes very close.

If we don't first meet Darkseid while he's sitting in a chair in someone's home, the whole thing will be a waste.

Darkseid definitely suffers cinematically from arriving after Thanos, so all anyone will see is a lamer Thanos

Which is a shame, because as evidenced above, he has historically had way cooler dialogue

Personally I think Thanos was too much of like a dude, like he's some fuckin rasin Stone Simpson Cold Homer dude who happens to be like a fuckin strong asshole, I think there is room open for some sort of utterly unrelatable alien avatar of fascism Darkseid

Broke as fuck in the style of the times. Gratitude is all that can return on your generosity.

Agree, no relatable motivation (too many people seemed to go "I don't agree with murdering half the universe, but I understand). Just pure, evil domination purely for the purpose of subjugating others. No shade of grey, just alien horror who demands worship.

In Kirby's original stories, Darkseid never throws a punch. The only time he ever personally hurts anyone is when he uses the Omega Effect. Whenever people challenge him to a fight, he either finds a way to make them go away, or he takes off.

In Final Crisis, what I think of as the best post-Kirby Darkseid story, he never physically fights anyone. He doesn't have to.

Yeah, if done correctly, Darkseid could be pretty easily distinguished from MCU Thanos as a match for godlike-ideal-style DC heroes. Marvel spent a lot of time on the ground with their heroes polishing the half-sincere/half-sarcastic tone of the universe, and their villains reflected that (the good ones anyway). DC shouldn't try to imitate that; over-the-top existential-evil Darkseid could work in their universe, while in the MCU he'd be like... Malekith.

That said, do I trust Zak Snyder to be able to create the required tone/universe to support a character like that? Hell no.

Artists keep giving him a jutting jaw. I recall Kirby designed his head-cover-thingy specifically to remove it, and make him look monumental.

Edit: Also, this was what the Italian Fascist Headquarters looked like:

I am not confident that we're going to get any truly cool Darkseid scenery-chewing from the people who brought us "Do you bleeeed?"

I guess you don't want to get bogged down, but I thought it was really weird the Japanese girl in The Farewell was such a non-character. She was putting up with a huge hassle and we didn't even get one honest line of dialogue from her.
