The water parks I went to had wooden tower things, with like, anti-slip mats on the steps? One of the problems I'd have with water parks, though, is that every slide kind of has to be gravity powered, by definition, so you'd have to walk up these large fuckin' wooden towers in the wind, and then wait to go in some fucking tube, and for someone who has problems with heights, this was no good. Roller coasters, at least, when you go up, you're sitting down and you're locked in place, and you're moving, so it's not...you know, as bad, and then you're just moving.
Also it didn't matter how much sunscreen we put on at a water park, I was always fucking torched by the end of the day. Worst sunburns of my life have all happened at water parks.

In college we went to Schlitterbahn and at the end of the day discovered that our driver had lost the keys on one of the slides. So we just had to slowly starve to death in a South Texas parking lot in June for two and a half hours waiting for the Chrysler rep to show up and sell us a new key for a hundred bucks.
Though the movie ultimately found financial support from producer Alex Lebovici and distribution from Orion executive John Hegeman — both avowed “Bill and Ted” fans going back to the ’80s — Soderbergh was the one who got excited about screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon’s fresh take on the characters entering middle-age. He was also the one who picked up the phone, eventually finding director Dean Parisot (“Galaxy Quest”) to guide the project to completion.
“I just volunteered to be a sort of glorified cheerleader for the project and make calls to the studios that had the rights to say, ‘I don’t understand why you aren’t doing this?'” said Soderbergh, speaking over Zoom with Winter and Solomon, who first told Soderbergh about the project when the pair worked together on “Mosaic” for HBO. Soderbergh delighted at the way the project juggled zaniness with genuine depth. “The script’s great and everybody wants to play again,” he recalled telling executives. “What’s the problem? I was just trying to help this logjam get unstuck. At the beginning it was kind of vague, and then we all made it clear how much we wanted to see this done.”

we'd get a lot of commercials for the six flags near chicago, and a park called adventureland in the middle of iowa. we made it to six flags a few times! would love to go back to that park once it makes sense to go back to theme parks

That is eerily similar to the waterpark I went to as a kid. It was called Fantasyland originally, and had life size doll houses, toadstools, statues of fairytale creatures etc, fairy stuff. Then it was redeveloped in the 90s into a water park and renamed Splash Planet. Or maybe lots of waterparks have a similar history?
edit- huh, apparently the waterslide was invented in NZ in 1906. Oh, and the longest waterslide in the world was built in NZ. It was going to be installed in... Action Park. But the park has had financial issues and it seems to have not happened.

he'll make completely unpretentious arthouse stuff, and he's also capable of making the most down-the-middle crowdpleaser imaginable, and he can thread those two needles in a way that I don't know if there's anyone else equal to him

I love the Watchmen TV show, don't get me wrong. But The Knick's "Get the Rope" hit all the themes that Watchmen had people flipping their wig over, and that shit was six years ago

I was going to say, lot of Soderbergh stuff on my timeline today, but it turns out it's all just quotes and tweets and replies to that source tweet thread already posted, so I guess we've pretty much covered this.
Speaking of Soderbergh the last scene in Oceans 11 is so weirdly unnecessary. You have this great moment of Tess leaving Benedict backed by a rousing orchestral score that mellows as she claims Danny as her husband and then crescendos with the crew watching the Bellagio fountain and slowly leaving. It's fucking perfect. Then the fade to black and pick up at the prison scene and what the hell are we doing here. Was Rusty cracking a prison rape joke really worth undercutting the emotional end of your movie?

I hate him too! If it is any consolation, The Knick is aware that Clive Owen('s character, but also Clive Owen) sucks, and routinely allows him to suffer and/or embarrass himself
It's very much a show that SEEMS like it will be about a Troubled Genius Antihero, and then gradually reveals a different theme: how Troubled Genius Antiheroes are actually just people that suck up the oxygen and renown of marginalized people who are more deserving, who have better ideas, who have nobler aims, who have a sharper need for the benefits that authority bestows.
Me and my friends growing up turned any park into action park with our stupidity. We were responsible for the wave break in lazy river when we used water flow to send one of us over the side down the hill off a sweet wave jump.
And , on the mat rollup straight away we got so good at that , we kept hitting the end and rolling down that hill so they had to put up a fence
