look if we're gonna set a baseline for dodgy interrogation practises I personally would be delighted if the cops stopped at "using a fake skellington to scare those dastardly crims"

anyway you can get a patent on almost anything, it means nothing.

A better universe exists where Haunted House policing took off and they have blindfolded suspects put their hands into bowls of peeled grapes.

Technically it did take off since every cop has a ghost costume in their closet.

yo that was a really good joke

I can’t believe all it takes for me to NOT laugh at an “All cops are KKK” joke was just to punish cops that murder people, but they don’t, so I’m laughing my ass off here.

A great many people on the left and the right are firmly in their world view concerning America and Justice. Any kind of reform that changes the destiny of America from the status quo means violently shaking them out of their doldrum.

Made my Friday "Pretend real hard we still talk" call to my brother, and he picked up jovially and wanting to talk politics (giant fucking red flag). Turns out he'd been getting shit at work for "sounding like a bigot", and since he knew that I knew he wasn't one, he wanted to run some *thoughts* past me

Cue thirty straight minutes of "Jacob Blake was no saint; that teenage shooter actually tried to turn himself in, the media doesn't report that; I love the NBA, but where do the players get off thinking they have a platform?; we can't even know how hard cops have it, because *we* weren't brave enough to be cops; constant frequent and annoyed reassurances that okay, yeah, I guess no one should get shot in the back seven times probably, whatever; how could anyone think I'm racist, I'm the least racist person"

The most depressing part was that no matter how many shit balloons I popped embarrassingly in his face, and no matter how dispassionately I did it, he just kept plowing forward mindlessly towards his original point. There was no self reflection, no thought process...it was 100% "ok, but if you look, the *real* victim is me for them suggesting my views make me a bigot, how dare those people (I don't realize I look down on) look down on me". I don't know how you reach someone like that...after I hung up and since, I've been questioning whether it was worthwhile to even *try*

here's some off-brand rammstein-ass band who it appears did a song about how original-flavor nazis were all tweakers

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fRB27kFOG0

it's crazy to me that a world power would give their pilots as much speed as they could handle in order to keep them in the air longer, demonstrably causing many incidents of them firing on their own guys, who does that

Well to be fair many countries loaded up their soldiers and leaders with drugs during that time period. Nazis may have done it worse than others in part because so much of Nazi leadership were drug addicts.

It wasn't meant to be a dig it's just kind of fact that a bunch of Nazi leaders, Hitler, Goering, Goebbels, Hoffman, etc. became heavily addicted to some pretty potent mixes of stimulants and depressants. It's not why they were Nazis, although it definitely had a pronounced impact on some of them. (Hitler was probably dying of health complications directly related to how much opiates and stimulants he was being injected with at the same time by the time he blew his brains out.)

But you know this is kind of off topic.

I think that's probably the subject of a larger video (that they probably wouldn't do, honestly), but the important message there still works, which is that voting only helps so much, and even in a best case scenario with the coming election, there will still be work to be done
Sorry this is hours later but I just got home from work.

I hope people are prepared, in the event of a Biden victory, for the next four years to be full of criticism and jokes at the Biden administration's expense. Punches are being held now because of how dire shit is but uh, man. People are going to heel turn really hard against comedy and/or the first amendment in a hurry.

Comedy will be our only salvation.

However, all the 90s and 80s black comedy about the police are .... what's the word.... highlighting how old, widespread, entrenched this exact problem is right now with the current American population.

    WHAT?! Dude. Dude.

This is the only show I remembered that actually killed a child through game violence and then follow through with the perpetrator in jail. Attempting to humanized the boy and offer them redemption as opposed to the typical savage, gang banger animal typically personified an American television.

Given the NYT's track record, I'm fully on board with believing it's the second. "Right wing groups are always to be given the benefit of the doubt, left wing ones are always to be described in the most inflammatory of terms" may as well be in their style guide.
