Killer Croc is running a hotel in the district of Gotham called "Monster Town", which is a district for people who have experienced, you know, physical deformities and mutations that make them look like monsters, like Killer Croc
I do wish more villains would get some manner of redemption arc and stick with it, but I also think that it's not a great fit for the Riddler. But the other takes on the Riddler, where he like, gets a question mark mohawk or a question mark scar to show how extreme he is and then fit in with the other Batman villains is also...fucking lame? There's this tendency, with Batman villains especially, to really grunge up villains to be like...huge psychopaths or extremely murdery, and it's a big part of why I've soured on Batman stories over the years, because it can just feel so...unimaginative, to grab some goofy old villain and go, "well, remember condiment king? now he kills people and turns them into mustard that he feeds to orphans!!!"
Even Riddler's reformation was, "well he got some brain damage and it fixed his psychosis!" and then it ended when they were like, "he got brain damage again!!!" I think it'd be...more interesting if the Riddler was just this asshole who was just smart enough to evade long prison sentences but also too fucking full of himself to not loudly talk about how he's going to outsmart Batman this time for sure. Like, his motivation isn't necessarily that he's got some psychotic break where he needs to do puzzles, he's just got this fixation on one upping the Batman and he's a huge fucking dork. And sometimes that need to outsmart Batman means he traps Batman in a really fucking complicated maze, and sometimes that means he tries to race Batman to solve a murder mystery or something.
it's fun to imagine weird shit to do with Batman villains because my first instinct there is to go, "this needs way less murder and weirdly portrayed mental breaks," and that makes it instantly less corny to me that like, Calendar Man exists, but like...I look at Spider-Man and his rogues gallery and I'm like, "Spider-Man's relationship to his rogues gallery is already exactly what I like I don't have any ideas for this"
Most people who have written the Riddler don't actually think the RIddler is that smart, big picture. There's no sympathy for the Riddler. He's often envisioned as this Dunning-Kruger kind of guy who's really confident about how much brainpower he has and is certain he's the smartest one in the room because he likes Sudoku.
I'm trying to remember if the point where they revealed that Mr. Freeze was not actually in fact the frozen lady's husband, and was instead a creepy scientist stalker who obsessed over her in a Definitely Sexual Way, was concurrent with the point where they through Nora Fries into a Lazarus Pit and she was revived as a living lazarus pit woman named Lazara (which, come the fuck on, Lady Lazarus is right there)

I don't think those things happened around the same time because I definitely remember the former but not the latter.

More Batman villains should have successful redemption arcs because that's the only true victory for Bruce's philosophy
the blank check on used cars basically gives up on talking about the movie at the halfway point and just becomes grousing about the current state of comedy films after that, just as a heads up
it's still a good listen but if that isn't your bag you can basically check out when the shift happens, they never go back

The important detail is this happening halfway through means they talk about Used Cars for an hour and a half and then comedy for an additional hour and a half
It was hamfisted in execution but there was a point where the Riddler's deal was "guy who loves stealing things with a riddle motif, and doesn't understand why everyone is suddenly trying to murder everyone" and I really liked that
Which is to say, The Riddler should feel like a Venture Bros. villain

I think you're thinking of a short story Neil Gaiman did back in the 80s, "When is a Door"

I’ve definitely seen this shot posted before and I never don’t think it’s Kyle Mooney

I'm fine with the Riddler endangering people to set stakes; I don't think he needs to be entirely goofy
Like, I don't want him shooting people with a sniper rifle to make a giant question mark in the crowd or whatever, but if he wants to set up a real life trolley problem for Batman, that's a fun Riddler move still
I think it would be very fun for one of Batman’s rogues to turn a new leaf and become a detective still somewhat competing with Batman and Riddler is perfect for that.
Screw outsmarting him, I’ll beat him at his own game
What is the Riddlers deal anyway like beyond being a silly riddle puzzle mystery man like is he just an asshole, it doesnt seem like riddly puzzliness implies criminal mayhem ncecessarily

He has hyper-inflated narcissism that manifests in hurting others to show he's superior to them.
I keep putting on podcasts and not being able to finish them because I end up napping.

Ah, a Sherlock.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
afaik his whole schtick is that he's obsessed with proving that he's smarter than batman, and batman's not gonna pay attention to some weirdo who sends him homemade puzzle boxes in the mail unless that puzzle box has like, the off switch for a timebomb inside of it or something

I think your way more likely to have Ivy be a villian by accident because whatever dingus is writing the comic bought into eco-fascism.
It works if her schtick is nothing but "plants rule humans drool" and she doesn't have any kind of environmentalist bent to her
You have to make her less interesting to make her less sympathetic than batman

And it only works because of the season and a half build up to losing his damn mind and transforming into a pure- sociopath.
Eventually giving us a Riddler who hosts a lethal trivia game show in the Narrows.
