Yeah pretty much. A lot of sects have moved left but many of those are shrinking. And it's really on the right wingers who's kids are growing up and staying with the faith. The association with conservatism also pushes people away. It's sort of bleeding members because of it's conservatism with predictable results.

Hardcore conservative christianity is doing pretty well, the rest not so much.

They also currently have crack plot plans to implement religious integeralism onto the US.

Trumps support is because he has massive support among evangelicals, which is entirely because of sex and gender issues.

His numbers with Catholics are tanking.

President Trump’s favorability among white Catholics is down to 38%, while Biden’s has gone up from 40% in July to 66% in August.

Oh thank god. I mean, his being Catholic should help with that, but the breakdown between the white and non-white laity is so bloody frustrating. Even if I've mostly lost the faith.

why does trump's approval rating keep going up

Honestly, it seems like mostly stabilization after regression from covid, thanks to the ridiculously short attention span of Americans, coupled with Rasmussen somehow still being considered worth including pushing things further.

In reality they have been just kind of flat statistically. Barely moving between 41-43% for like a month.

He has a low ceiling and a high floor. Not sure why so many people are ride or die for him, but they are.

The Republican party has become a cult of personality around Trump. Pushed in large part by their media bubble.

I'm still not sure if it would have happened to anyone who won in 2016 or if it's something specific about Trump.

Which explains 27% of his approval, but not the next 15.

This, for me, is what convinces me that a huge portion of the population--tens of millions of people--are willfully ignorant. It's almost like there's this large chunk of voters who don't dare to care. I can think of no other explanation. Simply reading headlines, or reading Trump's own Twitter account, or whatever, should be enough to convince people that he's an idiotic lunatic. I think they actively avoid doing so, and blindly vote the way they've always voted out of habit.

I honestly think most people think the world works like Mage:the Ascension, where there’s no real empirical truth and reality is basically defined by how many people believe in something and who yells the loudest and most convincingly. “If we all believe the emperor has clothes hard enough he has clothes, and if the emperor’s penis gets frostbite and falls off its because the traitors didn’t believe hard enough.”

Which works pretty well as long as you can ignore the plagues, fires, and hurricanes.

Not just Catholic... but blue-collar Irish Catholic.

Both my parents are Irish ex-pats who (likely) voted for Trump, but won't admit it. They currently think Trump is a piece of shit and are supporting Biden.

My mother is a decent barometer for the bloc, because she's a multi-miscarriage Pro-Lifer that got taken in by that by that little shit O'Keefe and Project Veritas.

Trump tried to use an annual presidential tradition to try to get more Jews to vote for him. He said a bunch of antisemitic garbage.

    https://www.jta.org/2020/09/16/politics/on-rosh-hashanah-call-trump-tells-american-jews-we-love-your-country-and-asks-for-their-vote
WASHINGTON (JTA) — President Donald Trump spent much of his 20-minute call with American Jewish leaders making the case for more American Jews to vote for him. He closed by repeating a line that has raised their eyebrows before.

“We really appreciate you,” Trump said as he signed off the call, an annual pre-Rosh Hashanah presidential tradition. “We love your country also.”

Earlier, introducing his Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who brokered the historic deals with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain that were signed Tuesday at the White House, Trump called him “an unbelievable leader for Israel.”
The president listed what the United States was doing for Israel, saying it paid $4.2 billion in annual assistance to the country. The figure is $3.8 billion and stems from a deal brokered by Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama.

“We’re in the Middle East because of Israel,” Trump said, a position at odds with the myriad interests, including the free flow of oil, that the United States has in the region.
“I remember Bibi coming over and begging him, begging him to a point of humiliation that please don’t do the Iran deal,” Trump said. “He did it. I broke it, but he did it. And yet the Democrats get 75% sort of like habit. It’s automatic. I hope you can do better with that. I hope you can explain to people what’s going on.”
“Which really amazes me, and I have to tell you, because I saw a poll that in the last election, I got 25% of the Jewish vote and I said here I have a son-in-law and a daughter who are Jewish, I have beautiful grandchildren that are Jewish. I have all of these incredible achievements,” Trump said. “I’m amazed that it seems to be almost automatically a Democrat.”
Not really making a good case there.

Also you bloated ghoul the blue states taking safety measures like mask mandates seriously is the only reason we're not already at 2 million deaths, and we're still full steam ahead to get there anyway because your administration has destroyed the credibility of the CDC and FDA and you refuse to take any measures to actually combat the disease.

And literally none of that matters because he's the President who has presided over ensuring it was maximally difficult for any state to get aid. The normalization of "it's okay because it's only happening to states controlled by the opposition political party" is batshit crazy that it's not being picked up on.

    Florida - 21.5M people, 13K dead.
    Texas - 29M people, 15K dead.

    Australia - 25.5M people, 832 dead.

Tell me again, Mr President, how well non-blue states are doing compared to "anybody in the world".

The state with the lowest deaths per million is Alaska, with 60D/M. It's the only state that's not at least double that of Australia's 33. Eleven states, including Louisiana and Mississipi have 20 times Australia's D/M rate.

And just to be clear, Australia isn't New Zealand. We don't have this "contained" like they do. We get outbreaks. But we're dealing with it. I've been mostly in lockdown (other than work) since March.

Side note, it appears that the US topped 200K deaths on the 15th of September, according to Worldometer. While I'm not one for milestones, the media usually are, and this appears to have gone relatively unreported. I mean, it's mentioned, but I'm not seeing it considered a big deal.

Alaska is also an outlier among red states because it had a governor who was in hot water and staring down a recall, and despite modeling himself on Trump (to the point of changing his letterhead to include a "J" for his middle name), figured out he could score major kudos if he actually took the coronavirus seriously and pushed for a quarantine very early on, before the virus really had taken foot. At some point he got cold feet, relaxed restrictions and now it's starting to pop up in bigger and bigger numbers, but we had the benefit of at least putting the brakes on it for awhile.

It’s not surprising, so it’s not reported on like it’s a scandal or newsworthy or anything.

Everybody knows who Trump is and how he deals with things. A million or more people are going to die and the people who could do something about it won’t, so the people who can’t do anything about it are just kind of resigned to it at this point.

IMO what we saw is about what you would have expected, the virus broke out in major ports of entry to the US, quickly followed by multiple large metros with busy airports. And often the first infections seemed to be coming from vacationers, like in Colorado where our first virus confirmation was a dumbass who had flew in for skiing from Italy after multiple traveling partners in Italy had contracted the virus. After it burned through major cities, it predictably started getting out into more rural areas. And none of that has anything to do with politics or Red vs. Blue.

    https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/7211909-Generational-Data-C-1.html

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/younger-voters-choose-biden-over-trump-they-re-not-wild-n1240269
A new exclusive analysis conducted for Quibi and NBC News compiled data about more than 2,000 young voters surveyed in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal polls from January through August of this year.

The data show that, while younger voters overwhelmingly say they will choose Joe Biden over Donald Trump, they're not all that enamored of Biden, either.
Among Gen Z and millennial voters of color, a third or fewer (34 percent and 27 percent, respectively) view Biden negatively. But 47 percent of both white Gen Z voters and white millennial voters give Biden a thumbs-down.

The divide is even sharper when it comes to vote choice.

For both Gen Z and millennial voters who are white, 42 percent say they would pick Trump over Biden. But just 22 percent of Gen Z voters of color — and 19 percent of millennials of color — say they're choosing to vote for Trump.
National polling overall shows a significant gender gap in the race, and young voters are no exception.

Younger women make their choices very clear, according to these data: Gen Z women are breaking for Biden by nearly a 3-to-1 ratio , 69 percent to 25 percent.

It's a similar picture among millennial women, who pick Biden by 65 percent to 28 percent.

But among younger men, Biden is just barely ahead.

Among Gen Z men, Biden bests Trump by just 44 percent to 42 percent in a head-to-head matchup.

Among millennial men, it's similar — 45 percent for Biden to 42 percent for Trump.
I find these sorts of polls useful simply because a lot of assumptions that aren't necessarily true end up getting made about relatively popularity based on very limited bubbles.

Polls of white voters are always kind of depressing.
