Well, I've returned to watching Gundam Wing. In the second half now.
It's good but... At times completely incomprehensible. The second half has been significantly tighter though! I still don't think I'll wind up liking this more than Iron-Blooded Orphans, but I am enjoying it a lot still.
Every time Wufei is on screen though my eyes just kinda glaze over
That is extremely impressive but also I haven't watched OP in like 8 years. Is that guys power just All Fruits or something?
He has the Mochi-Mochi fruit, which is basically Luffy’s power except stronger, since he uses it to not only stretch and attack but to morph into different shapes (like, Luffy’s Gatling attack has him attack so rapidly it looks like a thousand punches are being thrown, this guy can actually throw a thousand punches at once)
He can also transform the landscape into Mochi and control it. He also has an amazing level of observation Haki where he can predict almost anything a couple seconds before it happens.
It’s kinda nuts, and the stick fight was impressive to me because I have no patience to watch the anime so it’s really my first time seeing the whole fight animated!
The transformation part is technically something all the Paramecia type Fruit users are capable of doing when they advance their skill enough. Doflamingo was doing the same thing in Dressrosa with his strings.
Jesus, this show was already frequently dark, but it's just getting pitch black now with Subaru getting constantly fucked over no matter what he tries.
I'm half expecting that he'll eventually get stuck in a completely hopeless scenario.
We previously had episodes with endings that made us go "what the Christ!?", but this time we get several "what the Christ!?"moments and they never stop coming.

I don't know if anything will ever top the sheer impact Season 1 Episode 15 had at time of first airing.
If anything:
I kind of expect despair from Re:Zero now, but my first watch through I didn't understand what despair was until that episode.
Maybe I'm tempting fate right now.

So things bout most recent Re Zero
Beatrice has a connection to Echidna! I bet Roswaal does too then! And he trying to get her free and might be just as old as Beatrice!
Emilia’s eyes were fucked up. Also Puck was MIA. Also she was undertaking the trial. Not sure if that was actually Emilia or if it was Satella possessing Emilia.
Roswaal might have ordered the attack on his own Mansion, but tiny girl was certainly behind the original Mabeast attack in S1. I thought for sure it was gonna be Petra as the mole, but nope! Nondescript little girl with blue hair!
I cannot tell if it is a rival nation, rival candidate, or Roswaal that ordered the attack on the Roswaal mansion.
Beatrice uses the same magic type as Subaru. That can’t be a coincidence.

Too bad, I was looking forward to Imae and Tomoko reuniting

Yeah. Yeah.
The episode that it really hit for me is 14, the Theater D insert episode.
Then 15 was just like “get rekt”

Are we getting more Made In Abyss or should I just read the wikipedia?
Not sure there is enough content to have a good second season. They did make a movie that covers a bit more after the end of season one but i don't think it has been subbed yet.

I heard sometime around when they made the movie they were intending to make a second season aiming for the fall or winter cour this year, no idea if and how that panned out with the pandemic.
I legitimately cannot imagine how they'll do more of Abyss after the Bondrewd arc. It goes some places that makes the stuff the anime covers look tame.

RE: Zero 11/Future speculation(Not a light novel reader)
I am 100% convinced Emilia is Satella. Not like a, she's possessing her kind of way, but in that they are actually the same person.
Actually, scratch that.
I believe Emilia is Satella. But I don't think she's ever possessed by Satella. I think it's JUST Emilia. Satella has never appeared in this anime and probably never will.
There was a Satella, but whatever happened before Puck found her(Who was obviously a spirit follower of Satella) are just gone, and all that remains are Satella's abilities as a witch with Emilia having no memories of it.
My guess is that a broken Emilia is the one who pulled Subaru to this world and gave him return from death after the numerous times Subaru abused return from death to save her, but that Emilia of course not being aware that he had that ability.
So a sort of fucked up Ouroboros.
Subaru's psychotic devotion caused Emilia's psychotic devotion and they are in a never ending death(love?) spiral.

I don’t think that’s right primarily because of the OVA I saw.

I'm glad I didn't start watching Re: Zero until now, because waiting years after the cliffhanger at the end of the first season would have been intolerable.

Were you watching the directors cut? Because the cliffhanger it ends on wasn’t present in the original Season 1.

I'm watching whatever version is on HBO Max.
BTW, the entire first season was subbed, but I just started season 2 and it seems to be dub only. That's gonna take a second to get used to.

That would mean Emilia kills herself in one of the timelines because Subaru tells her he can return by death and her heart gets crushed.

I am kinda relieved that this was not the episode they have decided to end on before the anime goes on a break or I would have lost it
Also I guess this would be a good time to speculate on how Saburu would fix everything? If you are Sabaru how would you go about it, and in which order? It would be pretty fun to come back later on to see how right or off you were. I am anime only btw so please don't any future insight from wn/ln
Well, I've returned to watching Gundam Wing. In the second half now.
It's good but... At times completely incomprehensible. The second half has been significantly tighter though! I still don't think I'll wind up liking this more than Iron-Blooded Orphans, but I am enjoying it a lot still.
Every time Wufei is on screen though my eyes just kinda glaze over
The plot of Gundam Wing is amazingly complex. I think I had to watch it about 3 times through before I understood the characters motivations and the various faction changes, character switches, etc etc. I think it's a beautiful story about the honour and futility of war and what it means when you remove honour (aka The Dolls), and your are just left with the futility (death). Milliardo's sacrifice to be the Big Bad, Treize's power play to save Relena from having to fight her brother are just wonderful wonderful moments. Relena remains my favourite female protagonist in anime, she's a strong character who doesn't need to be saved - but everyone saves her because they know that she is the only one that can truly save them all.
Paraphrasing: "War's begin because of Man's will, but they also end because of Man's will. If one side has no will, or an indomitable will, then war will last forever". A pertinent warning for us all I feel, in an age where the military is becoming more and more automated.
Relena 100% needs to be saved though. It's pointed out over and over that her peaceful ideals sound very nice and last zero seconds on contact with any enemy force. I think Gundam 00 went over this dynamic much better though, the violent interaction between fighting for peace or not fighting and just being easily killed by people willing to do so.

@Janson and I started watching Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure the other day, and I'm liking it so far! Kind of funny seeing the contrast of the extremely well-detailed robots and then the fairly plain by comparison humans.
The ED for it is truly bizarre though. Some kind of weird early-CG monstrosity.
I think my main issue with Wing isn't the characters or story (aside from Wufei who I really do not like) but rather the pacing and narrative structure. It jumps around way more than needed, seems to have no real breaks at times, but then also spends time not really having anything actually advance the story at all.
Releena is super good though, I really really like her. I love a lot of the characters in a similar vein to IBO, just for very different reasons.
I think ultimately my issue is that there's all this great stuff in Wing and then the direction and narrative structure keep getting in the way of my ability to enjoy it consistently and that frustrates the heck outta me.

So new series that i've been futzing about lately now that I've had some more free time:
Uzaki-Chan wants to Play - Despite the controversy over her body proportions, it's a fun little rom-com romp. Kind of a reverse taming of the shrew with some cute blushy moments. Definitely enjoyable.
Monster Musume No Oisha San - What I hoped was something on the level of Monster Musume or at least some fun rom-com monster girl fun turned into Gigguk's patented "I can't believe it's not Hentai" within 2 episodes with a verrrry strong bent into fetish territory. (idon'tknowhwatIwasexpecting.gif) Dropping that like a rock.
Also this talk of Re:Zero has definitely got me interested in it, that sounds like a neat spin on the isekai genre.
