slightly strange question, but i had not realised the song "sleeping satellite" was very much a uk phenomenon - for those from outside the uk do you remember that song from the early 90s?
I heard the cover by Karnivool before the original, but have become familiar with it. Super catchy chorus and certainly more layered and nuanced musically than a lot of 90s pop. Great keyboard/synth bridge in the middle of the track, I like it.

I had to look it up, but after listening to a bit of it I definitely heard it in the 90s. I remember my brother mock-singing the chorus because he either had to hear it at work or someone he knew listened to it a lot.

talking of prog metal after wondering if the new chaos divine album was mia after they said 2019, dropped a single then fucking vanished apparently its out in october and this... idk kind of generic very chaos divine track is out?
Blaze Bayley is on a celebrity edition of British gameshow Pointless tonight
Is he still sporting the Martin Van Buren facial hair?
Sort of! Just the trademark sideburns still, only reduced in size a bit. Totally bald on top.
Incidentally, he was teamed up with Dave Bartram, formerly of Showaddywaddy (an odder combination I can barely imagine, but funnily enough I've seen them live too when Dave was their singer!), and they got through to the final (it's awesome to now think Blaze Bayley has a Pointless trophy) but narrowly missed out on winning the jackpot.
Is...this even real? Even the shittiest Six Feet Under material from the past sounds BRILLIANT next to this...how can this make it through Brian Slagel? Does he just not care? Is he in on the joke?
Seems like one of the major plot points of this film is booking an Iron Maiden gig in 1979 to save their "club" etc. Looks fun. https://youtu.be/Mhkn3D4BVKk
The cast list doesn't show anyone in the roles of 1979-era Iron Maiden themselves, but it very conspicuously does show someone playing Rod Smallwood, Maiden's legendary manager. Could be interesting!

I think the unsettling effect is from him not looking straight at the camera, which is either A: Genius psychological manipulation B: a hint at an underlying psychosis or C: a bad prompt from whoever was filming it.
Just read Moby Dick for the first time, gonna spin up Leviathan now to celebrate.
Yeah, speaking of Mastodon, their new rarities CD just showed up in the mail, I'll have to pop that in. Definitely some stuff on there I didn't own.
And aarrrghhh...another scrawny Digipak sleeve on the Mastodon...I'd rant more and perform some hand modeling but I just did it on the book of faces. Repulsive!
The new Raven is great, and with Heller on drums they incorporate blast beats and everything on some tunes, and it actually fits right into their speed/NWOBHM formula.
I'm hoping this album is one of those "the sum is better than its parts" thing, which has definitely happened in the past. I didn't like The Theory of Everything much when it came out, but I came to appreciate it a lot more over time. On the other hand, The Source I enjoyed right away, but these days I rarely listen to anything past the first disc.

Wasn't feeling the Plague Years album that much, but I think people really into Power Trip and...what's that New York band...Creeping Death, that's the one...would probably dig it. Or Gatecreeper.
The Heathen album is solid, not as exciting as the last one.
I've been listening to the new Finntroll a bit and it takes me back although it's not as catchy as some of their other albums, but it does capture the darker and murkier Finntroll of the old years pretty well.
WAIL (Norway, not the Finnish one), kind of sounds like what later 70s Priest might have sounded like if Bruce Dickinson was at the helm, or maybe if he had stayed in Samson longer. Pretty good album if you like hard rock/old metal.

Apparently shitty things are going down with Gygax's bandcamp page. They just posted this message which got emailed to anyone following them on bandcamp. It's since been deleted from their bandcamp page, but email is forever!
Hey guys, we're writing to you today to let you know that for the past year or so Bandcamp and benjamin murray have stolen our IP. We've received numerous emails stating that fans were unable to access their music they had previously bought from us. In addition our app has showed constant income, but we have never seen money in over a year now.
Bandcamp has also prohibited us from accessing a lot of things on our own page. And as we are not rich, we can do very little about this. We ask that you no longer use this page to access our music. We're looking into other avenues to bring our music back to you. Just know that in the meantime anything you purchase from us is not going to us. Sorry for the post. But we were blocked from doing anything else.
I bought their second album directly from them at a festival a few years ago, but I did buy their latest via bandcamp last year. Fortunately, it still shows up as downloadable for me, but this is something to be aware of. I also found this reddit post from January shedding a little more light on the story, including the record label owner being shitty to a customer.
Yes, I heard about this on a gaming podcast. The Powerwolf boardgame, and I've heard it's even pretty good!
It sounds like it's out of the Mage Knight / Mistfall mostly-cooperative genre, which is one I enjoy. I'll let you guys know how rad it is to be a servant of werewolf Jesus when I inevitably pull the trigger on it.
Nice, let us know. I've got the Mage Knight Ultimate edition myself. Are you on BGG? I'm over there under the same handle.
Yep, same. I usually update it about this time of year for the annual local-area mini convention, but that didn't happen this year so it's a bit out of date. Haven't added many new games since this started up, though.

And more Slayer influenced hardcore/thrash, Plague Years brings the riffs.

And even more thrash, Heathen, Lee Altus' other project besides Exodus, has a new album out. Classic 80's thrash riffs:

Unclear. Personally I'm wondering what the dynamite will do, if there's any in there.
