I have watched the SNL skit many times and knew what it referenced, but have never actually seen the original scene from The O.C. despite viewing more of that show than I ever actually anticipated watching.
Or rather I hadn't seen that scene, until about 1 minute and 3 seconds ago.

I too have only seen the skit and never watched the OC. I've never really seen any other SNL stuff either so I thought it was a Lonely Island thing. Yes I found it confusing.
I've never heard of any of these, nor do I remember any of the OC despite having watched all of the first three seasons when I was in Greece in college.
Oh, the SNL skit is a reference itself? That explains a lot. For years I'd only seen the meme going around and thought "I'm sure this is funny if you know what it's referencing". Then I was told it was referencing the skit and didn't find the skit funny either.
Maybe if I finally dig up the original it'll all make sense, close off this decade old journey to find a humour in this meme.

My favourite run so far has been with the Fists (Zagreus +dodge aspect) + Hermes trinket for more dodge and then getting up in opponents faces and stunlock them into oblivion.
