Nice, let us know. I've got the Mage Knight Ultimate edition myself. Are you on BGG? I'm over there under the same handle.
Yep, same. I usually update it about this time of year for the annual local-area mini convention, but that didn't happen this year so it's a bit out of date. Haven't added many new games since this started up, though.
Sweet, yeah I've got my whole collection up there, although I never have time to play most of it. I'm psyched because some friends and I area actually going to have a small 4-5 person boardgame meet in two weeks, mostly to play Halloween-y stuff like Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein, Mansions of Madness, Horrified and Witch of Salem. I'm into all kinds though: Euros, America-trash, light and heavy, abstracts, dice games, card games, RPGs, I'm sort of an omni-gamer. Come to think of it, some of these guys are metal too, so we should have a decent soundtrack going!
I need to clear out my shopping cart, it must have $200 worth of expansions and new games in it, but I just can't stop buying CDs lately....
The new Imperial Triumphant album has definitely been growing on me, at first I wasn't terribly impressed but there's a lot of nuance and subtlety that rewards repeat listens. They also have a Voivod cover on there.

I've been doing Spirit Island and Gloomhaven over Zoom, most recently, with my usual in-person group. I lean mostly towards co-op stuff, myself.

Sweet, Gloomhaven is cool, actually my wife got me that new Jaws of the Lion box for my birthday and I haven't had time to crack it open yet. Co-ops are great.

Swedish death metalers Lik have a new album coming out, Misanthropic Breed. Classic old school swedish HM-2 death metal sound with a few twists to make it a little more interesting than just a regular throwback-style band.

Jeez, it's hard to believe that My Dying Bride's new album came out earlier this year, just before the pandemic had been declared. I remember trying to go running on the treadmill to that album, and I have no idea why I tried that. Great album, but...not a running album. Like most My Dying Bride albums.

I've given the new Ayreon album a listen and a half or so. It's got some good songs, but my initial opinion is that it's not a great Ayreon album. Clearly Arjen Lucassen is a big fan of Tom Baker, because this album is full of his narration. I've never kept up with Dr. Who, and certainly not the Baker era of Dr. Who, so the narration is just a bit meh to me. I wish his parts were separate from the songs.
I've got no issues with the performances, but I'd prefer to listen to almost any other Ayreon album before this one, with the exception of The Final Experiment.

I guess Dino Cazares got some legal stuff fixed up so that he can release a new Fear Factory album next year. Meanwhile, Burton C. Bell has left Fear Factory and plans to focus on his other band, Ascension of the Watchers. I listened to the debut album by AotW a few years ago and remember being completely bored by it. Then again, Fear Factory hasn't really recorded anything memorable for me in a long time either. My reaction to Genexus was "yes, this is a Fear Factory album" and it sounded perfectly acceptable.
Still, I'm glad I got to see them live a few years ago again for their Demanufacture 20th anniversary tour.

I would totally be alright if the next Fear Factory album was all instrumentals. Burton was never a bad vocalist (on the albums, anyway) but the lyrics weren't their strongest component. Especially if you have any knowledge of machines or manufacturing processes. "Annodize my life," indeed. :P
The one time I've ever seen a Burton live performance was his guest spot on Delain's Live at Paradiso, doing his duet part on "Where is the Blood", and he was fine on that. But, you know, that's a small-ish part of one song.
I never got into Fear Factory, but I did try. On paper, should be a band I'd like, but just didn't do it for me at all for some reason.

I liked them when I was 16-17 years old.
But I also liked Machine Head and Pantera so I mean it's not saying much
Hey, Power Metal, the 4th of their hair phase, was actually a really good heavy/power metal album, one of their best, but of course that's not the Pantera most people relate to. At least they never wrote 'jumpdafucup' albums like Machine Head. I'd take even the first two (worst) pre-Phil Pantera albums Metal Magic and Projects in the Jungle over stuff like The Burning Red, Supercharger or Catharsis. Slayer used to do their hair up too! But OMG what were you thinking Dime and Rex!?
Now Kako has me thinking about doing a Pantera discography review...damnitall!

Fear Factory was the perfect band for me to get into when I was 18. Demanufacture will always be a go-to classic for me. I dug the hell out of their silly cybernetic themes. They still put out some good stuff after that album, but for me it was them at their peak. I remember reading the liner notes for Obsolete and rolling my eyes hard at everything.
I even saw them live opening for Megadeth the year Demanufacture came out and thought it was an awesome show.

What I hadn't put together was that Paranoid came out the same day Jimi Hendrix died. So yeah, that was 50 years ago too.

Another awesome one, the new Gorephilia, afraid I don't have a sample but the cover is DOPE. A bit more musical than the last.

That said, I haven't been very excited about Ayreon in a long time, to be honest, or any of these supergroup metal operas.

this song, distressingly, reminds me more of reroute to remain than anything else...
Quoting myself to tell y'all that one track is up on the Bandcamps. Album art also! Which is somehow more terrifying than that of The Dreaming I.

It's like a psychadelic industrial black-metal or something.

Oh hell yes, this album is absolutely killer. Would have been a great tour to catch back in the long, long ago.

But I think I've written enough about Robb Flynn's vehicle to the stars this past summer to last me a lifetime.
