Bubbles worries about other robots when she really should be worrying about QC's OTP. Never count Marten out, he's still in play. Jeph might have pulled the wool over everyone else's eyes but true love never dies. Farten's day will come!

    Dumbing of Age

As a former student and current holder of a Bachelor's in political science,

    1) it's not really a science, don't fucking kid yourself Becky, and
    2) if Becky and I were in the same classes she'd be one of those people whose opinions I consistently agreed with but who would insist on interrupting the lecturer to have full-on storytime anecdotes about how their lived experiences differ from what's being taught

    fucking, we know

none of us have had major background in international relations, Dave, so how about you let the professor actually teach us instead of explaining how you always thought realpolitik meant something else

I think the idea is she will load up on electives that are all science courses, while taking the required poly sci courses to fulfill the requirements of her scholarship, as written.

I thought this time was different because Allison had been chosen instead of whatshisface

The theory as I understand it is
that Zoss just keeps trying people over and over again waiting for a success.

With each update, I realize just how much of the plot I have forgotten

To be fair, I don't think this particular thing is ever explicitly stated in the comic.

Keep in mind that this was the previous comic he made, so I don't think you need to worry too much.

It's an illustration of two known glitches in the human brain that make it extremely hard to combat misinformation.

If you confront an anti-vaxxer with the facts, it tends to make them believe more strongly in the dangers of vaccination. If someone else is hearing about the dangers of vaccination for the first time, they stand a good chance of retaining the falsehoods that are being refuted rather than the refutations.

The brain hates to change its mind, and it desperately wants to avoid feeling bad about itself. So if you attempt to change someone's mind by opening with what a bad person they are, they're immediately going to harden their beliefs and a terrifyingly powerful pattern-finding machine is going to spend the rest of the argument coming up with more pieces of evidence that support their position and make you seem like a hateful asshole. Meanwhile, anyone who overhears or reads the argument are now rolling the dice to see which bits of information they remember later.

There are ways to short-circuit the process, but they're tedious and don't have a great success rate and don't readily scale. Knowing that it's a problem doesn't do a whole lot to find a solution, and it definitely doesn't make you less vulnerable to the same process.

oh I definitely got that part (especially after the past 4 years), I don't get both the joke (if there is one) or if he's commenting negatively on people who dig in their heels or people who criticize (or both?)

I think it's just some rough chuckles about how weird our brain meat is.

Edit: although I'm not sure if posting it as a comic on the internet where the Twitter comments instantly start interpreting it as an attack on themselves or a validation of their own position and fighting about it is part of the art installation, or just a grimly humorous inevitability.

It's a known phenomenon even. The more you attack someone for something, the more likely they are to dig in their heels rather than admit they are wrong.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I think it's a mighty fine joke when the punchline is the comments to it.

You mean the one where Shannon Doherty left the show? How do you reconcile that with Paige? Or is this a bizarro “other Darrin” situation where the viewer refuses to acknowledge the character substitution?
