If Tom Herman fails at Texas I suppose we could hire up-and-coming North Carolina coach Mack Brown

Herman might have had an easier time recruiting in Houston- there’s some stink on Texas, yeesh

Nah, recruiting isn't a problem at all. We've had multiple top-5 and top-10 recruiting classes for the last decade. We underperform relative to the talent by a country mile

The winner of the Week 4 Pick 'Em is @Magell ! Congratulations!

With the way the season is currently going, I would say that there's still plenty of time to join, so feel free to get going. We'll start tagging folks when the picks go up, since they will likely continue to go up Thursday night/Friday morning. I'll leave the response on the form for at least the next few weeks.

Whereas I'll be roaring up from behind once Big 10 play starts and my insane addiction to crap midwestern football gives me a leg up on y'all.

Rutgers isn't that great academically. I suggest Toledo.

SE++ PICK'EMS WEEK THE ONE WHERE CAPTAIN SHITFORBRAINS GOT COVID

    Straight-Up
#25 Memphis (-2.5) @ Southern Methodist - So this is Memphis's second game of the year despite starting the season a month ago. I have no idea how that will affect the Tigers (though it cannot be great), but it makes this matchup against SMU, which before the season looked like an easy Memphis win, way more compelling. Wait, not compelling. No one should be playing right now, this isn't compelling. Let's go with "should be close."

Texas Tech @ Kansas State (-2.5) - We were so close to the winner of this game claiming a transitive Golden Hat, but Texas Tech decided that holding on to multi-score leads with 3 minutes remaining is for suckers. Instead, we're stuck having to remind ourselves that Oklahoma lost last week, which actually is still really funny now that I think about it.

Navy (-6.5) @ Air Force - THE FIRST LEG OF THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF TROPHY! And as an added bonus, there's an almost 50% chance Trump won't show up at the stadium for it now!

    Against the Spread
South Carolina @ #3 Florida (-17.5) - Wait, hold on. *checks notes* Florida is ranked where? Are we sure we don't want to cancel the season still?

#12 North Carolina (-13.5) @ Boston College - North Carolina is 1-0 yet ranked #12 because sure. You have to assume at some point people realize they're still cashing in on fake course credits (you can't convince me there's a real football team called "Syracuse") but it probably won't happen until they get publicly embarrassed by someone.

#7 Auburn @ #4 Georgia (-6.5) - Any other week, this is probably GotCotW, but because Auburn got that slot last week, we wanted to feature someone else. Which is probably good for Georgia, because I have no idea who is going to start at quarterback for them in this game. My gut says they didn't bring in former Southern Cal QB J.T. Daniels just to sit on the bench, but even I would feel sorry for the former Trojan in that scenario. Dude is just coming off a major knee injury, and he was already fairly immobile before that, so having him go against Auburn's defensive front seems....ill advised.

GAME OF THE CENTURY OF THE WEEK (AGAINST THE SPREAD)
#13 Texas A&M @ #2 Alabama (-17.5) - While we should probably pay the defending Citrus Bowl champions some respect, I really just want to talk about Texas A&M, which is in year 3 of the Jimbo Fisher era. Alabama is probably the most "vulnerable" they will be in a long time, and all I can about is that I'd consider it a win if the Aggies kept things competitive. That's probably not what the big Aggie boosters thought they were getting when they gave Fisher that contract, but honestly what were they expecting when they hired away the head of a Florida money laundering scheme?

I still think Jimbo can work out in the long run, but boy did that Vanderbilt game really hurt last week. Mond will show flashes of brilliance, but then will throw the ball 5 feet over the WRs head. Doesn't help that none of the starting WRs returned last year. Be pretty shocked if they cover the spread, which really isn't something I want to be saying 3 years into a coaches tenure. I miss the before times when A&M had a cupcake schedule and didn't play Bama until week 11 when they were expected to be 10-0....

  • CSStheGr8CSStheGr8 Registered User regular
I think he just really over thinks every play. He seems to do best in high pressure two minute drills where he just has to sling the ball as quick as he can to his skill players. LSU overtime being the best example of that, but he's had some really good fourth quarters, but unfortunately played so bad the first 3 quarters that the team just couldn't recover. The offensive line has also been abysmal 2 of those 3 years so that doesn't help.

OMG Texas' running back is dumb. Reaching out on 1st and goal from the one rather than accepting the no gain. He fumbles, TCU recovers.

If Jimbo can't even get late scores to make the game seem closer than it actually was, then what is even the point of paying him all that money?

I mean, I know the actual answer is because Texas college football is an escalating series of dares to see who can throw the most money into the burning oil drum the fastest, but still.

    What a bizarre season

Georgia is going to win 42-7 tonight and then probably only score 13 against Tennessee or something

Honestly, I did not expect Auburn to get out-talented to this degree. Georgia is just so much better on both the offensive and defensive lines that I am not sure how Auburn even thinks about making it close, let alone win.
