Hey! There's this show on Amazon Prime called The Boys, currently nearing the end of S2. The elevator pitch is: "What if Avengers, but assholes?" It's pretty good!

Here is a place to discuss it. This thread is OPEN SPOILERS, so read at your own risk.

I might be trying an episode of this to see if I'd like it, but I also wanted to drop this link, just in case anyone was interested:

"The Boys" comics are available as part of a Humble Bundle for the next eleven or twelve days.

I just started watching this show a week ago and am a few eps into season 2 now and I like it! Despite or maybe because I'm not really into the superhero thing and burnt out on the Marvel and dc movies. It's also not quite what I expected in terms of it just being a couple of people against the superheroes and not an organisation, they seem so hopelessly out powered.

So my question is - when do The Boys get their Compound V injections ?

In the comics they have them from the start, if needed. The show’s recent episodes have shown Vaught is trying to stabilise it.

I’m guessing either the last episode will have them finding a stash, or Season 3 will be the hunt for it.

Okay, open spoilers. In a recent episode, a supe went on a rampage in a mental clinic, ripping metal doors off of hinges and crumpling them, and shredding guards into giblets with simple crookings of her fingers. She also withstood a sustained barrage of lightning from Stormfront. This rampage was triggered when she was freed from her metal-cell'd door by Lamplighter.

What the hell was stopping her from doing all that at any point in time?

Lamplighter mentioned there was a miss with her dosage so I imagine she's perpetually drugged. Maybe the Boys caper interrupted her handlers ability to dose her or something.

Also could have also been she was waiting for the right opportunity to escape. During normal days everyone would be able to focus on her, but with the boys there it made everything worse.

Could also be "I'm getting out and I don't give a fuck" and the boys just happened to be there on the day that happened.

I do think head explodey man is the scientology guy. Probably a fucked up version of professor x where his power is just blowing up your head, he killed multiple targets at the trial to throw off the scent he specifically killed A Trains replacement.

He probably killed the CIA lady because she was also investigating his cult and the boys just swung and missed and their on to liberty.

I'm wondering with all the allusions to natural birth and stormfront and homelander raw dogging if Stormfront is about to have happen to her what happened to butchers wife in the comic.

I was hoping Black Noir was looking for Butcher to switch sides and that would lead to some way to handle the supers. But as it stands Homelander alone makes all this pointless unless Starlight can get really pissed and stop him or something. Maybe Head Popper or the popper from the asylum can take him out.

Butcher's wife should have known her son was gone the moment Homelander turned up if she stayed put.

Starlight's facial expressions when she met Huey in the hall during the escape were great. Though, no one thought to disable the lights/power in the cell?

They did disable enough of the lights, they seemed to leave enough for observation but she is shown being unable to draw power from the available ones. They're caught out because they didn't think of the emergency light, which to be fair, when is the last time they had an emergency there?

And I think they're running into the narrative dead ends of leaving Becca alive in the show. She and Homelander never had a relationship once she disappeared yet she seems to know a lot about what makes him tick, and seems to feel she is in a position where she can make demands of him when he can fly her into the upper atmosphere on a whim. It was always stupid for her to not take Butcher's offer. She could have run off with the kid after escaping, but staying where she was was just waiting for the inevitable.

I do like how all the security at Vought sucks because like homelander they didn't think anyone could touch them. Like it feels internally consistent they wouldn't have removed lamplighter from their security because why? He's not been an issue before why would he suddenly do something now? Same with like shutting off emergency lights to cells, they'd never locked up someone like starlight before why would they even think to shut that down?

I just like how its an evil corp that acts like a regular corporation leaks and bad security across the board.

    Yes.

But it implies she is heavily drugged under normal circumstances and the whole caper (including lamplighter blasting door) may have hindered a standby orderly to emergency dose her.

At work our HR sometimes drags its feet removing people via the proper paperwork; we'll find out in IT that soandso left a couple months back and oh yeah, should shutdown their AD account. Shit happens, it's plausible and my thought watching it was "Some fucker didn't do a transition form!".

So comic spoilers that arent clear in the show:(and end of season 1)
mothers milk has powers like the comic, right? It's why frenchie in the shootout looks at MM like he is the one that need to run out into the open while frenchie stays in cover?

Also I assumed the exploding heads was(comic spoilers)
whatever the bioweapon was that effects compound v subjects when the first head exploded. But we had supers in the room where others exploded. Who could have a line on following the cia to the meetup(or butcher) AND the congressional hearing? Is it the AOC standin?

And season 2 TV right now:
So I assume its the not-scientologists exploding heads? Because they were sure they would get A Train and deep back in and the head of the speedster replacement got sploded. I think it could be the AOC standin.

Becca handled everything wrong IMO. I'm not sure what the long term strategy was anyway, was Vought letting her raise him as a Homelander with more of a conscience? Why involve her at all when you can just insert any female staff member as his mum? The SECOND Homelander learned about them it was over. She has no power over him whatsoever and yet acted like they were divorced parents with dueling parental strategies.

All the Becca stuff falls flat for me.

And none of them having powers (well, technically, the one non boy-Boy does!) is the main problem now. It's spinning their wheels until death at this point. They can't win.

And they KNOW Starlights power, so the shit security is just as unforgivable as it always is, it just has to be hand waved away. No reason Huey couldn't have let her out, then she busts them out once things go extra sideways and she has access to power.

I’m wondering if Becca dies in the finale. The teaser shows her going to Butcher for help getting Ryan back, and one of the earlier teasers shows Homelander landing with blood all over him and a concerned look. I wonder if he accidentally kills her, and it turns Ryan against him.

Or butcher does it in front of Homelander once again trying to hurt him like he already tried.

Basically if something awful happened on the show 75% chance butcher did it.

I still wonder if it'll be something like the comic did. Spoiler for the comic.

In the comic Becca died to a supe child ripping its way out of her that Butcher then killed (because Ennis) so all the blood everywhere could be Stormfront exploding from a baby inside of her.

I love the foreshadowing detail in the early season that Stormfront's American Flag armbands are turned around when she's in private so the stars are in retreat. That's so subtle I bet basically no one caught it, but it's there.

Inserting a staff member as his mother doesn’t make sense if you think about what you’re asking for someone to raise this kid 24/7 and actually love him.

There’s a short scene in the first seasons extra scenes where you see a young homelander being raised by one of his teachers/au pairs and she’s terrified of him because he can kill her by hugging her too hard (and does).

Homelander wants Becca around because he doesent want his kid to have a motherless upbringing like him so Becca has some leverage, at least until stormfront arrives in the picture.

Not convinced that the Farah-lookalike (it's actually her!) is the head explodey person.
From a narrative standpoint I can't tell what the point would be. A Vought plant for when compound V's existence became public knowledge? Even then though, the people killed in the hearing were the prime witness and what I assume to be the DA. The only people to benefit from this is Vought & co.
From a powers point of view you usually have people requiring clear line of sight, she had her back turned to many of the people going pop towards the end.

Given that B-train's head went pop it would make sense that it was someone in the church (why was he even there unless ordered to go by Vought), although whether it's the most interesting person on the planet's brother or the orange soda flinging agony aunt I'm not sure.

Yep, Becca has suddenly become useless. There's a clip floating around from the season preview teaser that has homelander flying down covered in blood and everyone is speculating who the blood belongs to.

He initially looks sad, but then at the very end of the clip he gets a slight smile, indicating either it wasn't someone important to him, or a problem was solved; or both. To me, it says Becca, and the smirk at the end is either the realization that she's just a problem that has been removed; or Ryan does it and it's pride.

I've noticed a lot of people on the interwebs seem to assume Stormfront is dead by the end of the season, but based on where things are going, I'm not seeing that? She seems to be more long term; though, I could see the writers wanting to off her before the election because (comic spoilers)
if she goes out even semi-like how Stormfront in the comics did; given the writers voiced anger over the state of the country, and why this season took the direction it did...I could see them wanting to curbstomp her face as their own sort of "get out and vote" pitch.

It's wild the season is only one episode left then at least another year before more. The show is too good to have such short seasons. But maybe keeping it short makes it better.

I guess they've announced a spinoff? Normally I'd not be into something like that, but you gotta figure this world has so many potential stories that could be going on, just as interesting as this main story, so, I'm willing to give it a shot.

I felt bad for Becca because Butcher was ultimately right, her son turned on her when he was told the truth. God imagine billy butcher being right about something, yikes.

The Netflix Daredevil was really, really good at it's peak, but the need to have 13 episodes left some dead air. As much as I want more Boys, we do at least get pretty lengthy episodes.

This is speculation but also based on comic stuff so spoiler warning
I'm 90% on Homelander killing Maeve before the end of this season, and that was before I saw ep7.

I think Stormfront will go out around the middle of S3, probably at the hands of Kimiko rather than all of the boys like in the comics

I'm on episode 5 right now, and I just have to ask. What's up with the fisheye lens effect in literally every shot of the show? Was that in season one and I just missed it?

There is not a single vertical line in this show. Everything curves

Yeah noticed that too. My guess would be that due to COVID lockdown in Toronto they couldn't get the same studio or equipment for those shots.

    My predictions:

I do think Scientology guy is behind the heads. I think he's the TV version of the Professor G in the comics that runs the "G-Teams"

I think by the end of S2 Hughie is gonna get dosed with V and take down a Supe. Maybe not all of the Boys, but at least Hughie.

I wasn't a huge fan of this show S1, mostly because it was SO different from the comics. Like, it's the Starship Troopers movie vs Book difference.

Now that it's grown on me though I really dig it. I'd like to see another two seasons after this to really tell a complete story. It reminds me of Powers, which was free to watch on Playstation and honestly a little ahead of it's time for TV based superhero shows and sadly got cancelled early.

Also the rumor mill is that the guy who plays Homelander is on the short list to be the new Wolverine in any future X-Movies and I can totally get on board with that.

I'm mostly a fan of the show because it's unlike the comics. Garth Ennis is good at making an interesting plot, but the rest of his "style" is repulsive to me.

Removing his fascination with the scatological, the purile dialogue and the rampant homophobia is IMHO a good thing.

    That's a fair point.
