Has anyone watched Tonikawa? Reading the synopsis, it's less 'at last, a show about a married couple!' and more about 'well, I'll date you if we get married!' wacky hijinks.

I haven't watched the anime yet, but have enjoyed the manga (licensed as "Fly Me to the Moon). It's basically light-hearted fluff.
...with a little hinting about once every 50 chapters that she's actually an immortal princess from the moon.

But that's not important, it's mostly just light-hearted fluff about their newlywed lives.

it's funny seeing what's basically the corpse of the setting of Hata's previous work just show up in the more recent chapters

I’ve tried to make it through Legend of the Galactic Heroes twice now, furthest I’ve gotten is about a third of the way

Not because I don’t like it, far from it, it’s one of my favorite anime of all time! It’s just that my brain is broken and easily distracted these days, particularly since this pandemic began

I also hate having to subscribe to VRV every time, but it’s the only source for the best and most contemporary translation. I’ve looked at the Blu-ray subs and they just do not compare

I really enjoy Legend of the Galactic Heroes but, yeah, it is a show that demands real dedicated focus as a viewer.

I didn't mind subscribing to VRV, because you also get Crunchyroll with it. They've also added a ton of other classic anime, like Vampire Princess Miyu, Gunbuster, Votoms, and Riding Bean.

As much as I want to like Votoms, it can really drag.

I just realised I used the wrong names for the gurren lagan stuff I talked about. I was talking about the mechas but I said the names of the ship forms, one of which doesn't even exist.

Many my memory is shit. I'm docking myself weeb points for that.

Tonikaku Cawaii manga most recent chapter and also Hayate the Combat Butler spoilers:
Tsukasa sword fighting this chapter only furthers my theory that this series is a "what if" of Hayate the Combat Butler, specifically if Hayate and Hinagiku had become a couple. The Yuzakis aren't exactly like Hayate and Hinagiku, but that was probably the most popular pairing in the author's last series. Unfortunately he wrote himself into a corner with Nagi as the main heroine, and had to force his two protagonists together in the end. Hinagiku arguably had the best character arc in the series.

Crunchyroll's manga has stopped working, as it runs off Flash, which has all of two months left of life.

I wonder if they'll roll something new out in January, or will just quietly let their manga service die.

I'm not sure what stuff in my VRV watchlist is from Crunchyroll and what's from.... HiDive? I'd imagine most of it is Crunchyroll but I don't want to have to subscribe to the services separately if anything happens to VRV

    anyone else here watching Higurashi

I didn't watch the original but I'm familiar with the story from wiki-ing it in like 2009

also, from the bad memes that I thought were hilarious as a young teen

So Hulu removed the ability to search for new anime. This is frustrating because they dropped a bunch of new shows from Funimation and its all mixed in with older stuff.

I dunno if the characters in the story know he's Dragon's son yet but that wouldn't be news to us, the audience, and anyway a bunch of other characters have a mysterious D. middle initial and it's vaguely implied to be related.

Keijo ended very strongly. Everything you could ask for in a shonen final tournament match.
MC gets a Zepelli powerup to unlock her Super Saiyan form, then finishes the fight by piercing the heavens.

The final episode also confirmed the dub is way better, I listened to some of the bits in sub mode instead, and they couldn't really compete. The dub added in lots of extra audio effects to really make everything sound impactful and important. Reminded me of listening to Plus Ultra in sub versus dub.

In his last author comment, he was saying how excited he was to hit 1000 chapters this year, then immediately had an unplanned 2 week hiatus.

    Manga is a tough industry.

Spoilers for the MANGA, don't click by mistake.
Killing the most prominent female lead in the manga the same week she debuts in the anime is certainly a decision.

Yeah, it's been strongly hinted at that the name has significance. Most significantly during the climax of Dressrosa iirc. Though so far really it's just that nobody with that name seems to give a damn about authority. (Now I'm trying to remember if Garp had that name, but I doubt it)
