My sisters friend had return to Zork on their PC. I played at it while we stayed at their place once. They had a huge printed out guide with step by step instructions on how to beat it, except they lost the final sheet or something and couldn’t get past the final final puzzle. My sisters friend declared it impossible and that her father had only done it once.

I managed to figure it out by the fourth or fifth try.

For years I was secretly proud of this achievement, until everything about it was ruined when I randomly found out via a YouTube video about puzzles that that final puzzle was actually mind bogglingly easy.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

For once we're coming to a new planet with no broken mechs and no injured pilots, and we're able to spend that travel time turning the Wolverine into a Mech that @Der Waffle Mous could use to his best, punching faces. There are mechs I prefer for punching, and roles I like better for a Wolverine, but of what we have now it can do the job well enough, so we load it up with SRM's and an Arm Mod++ that means it punches for 110 damage, put a "Der Waffle Mous" in the cockpit and turn them loose to see if they can wreck face.

    And they start spectacularly.
    [/spoiler]

This system is played out. Our mechs need a few days in the shop and our surviving pilots need a few days in the medbay, so it's time to pack this ship up and move on once again.

Played the Ghostrunner demo last night, and that game is definitely Too Much for me. I died 59 times on the first level, and quit on the second one.

God if we're bringing back old racing games for indy fun can someone please just re-make that incredibly stupid Chariot racing game with twin stick leaning/tony hawks balance mechanics and petty short sword action.

I really enjoy the aesthetic Ghostrunner has going on. The movement feels great. The story seems like it's some real sci-fi bullshit which I am all about.

The one shot deaths means I will never play the full game. The movement does a good job of putting you in a flow and makes you feel like a cool cyber ninja, but then you run into some enemies and that illusion is shattered. Instead you spend 10-15 mins constantly dying, trying to figure out not only the correct order to take the enemies on, but then actually execute on it. It gives the gameplay this stop and go pacing that really puts me off.

I'm sure speedruns of that game are gonna be tons of fun to watch though.

Just looked at my old system dive with crystal disk info and yeah it's reading "good" still but it's got a number more errors popping up than the other platter drive which is actually apparently slightly older? It's a seagate though and not a Western Digital.

Still both drives are over 5 years of power on hours in the listing, it's nuts they've held on as well as they have.

I think I'll have to get like a 2 TB platter drive to use for bulk storage of videos and music and pictures and such and just retire both these old ones.

@Brolo and anybody else trying to maximize Game Pass.
Here’s the best way to jump in at the best price, though you end up pre-paying for a while. I’m gonna use US prices, but this should work in Canada as well?

    pxu467gv7gff.jpeg

Game Pass Ultimate ($15/month) = GP PC ($10) + GP Console($10) + Xbox Gold (varies)

There is currently a deal where if you upgrade from any existing subscription into Ultimate you get your existing months converted to Ult at a 1:1 ratio.

12 months of Xbox Gold sells for $60 normally. That’s $5/month. So you get yourself 1, 2, or 3 years of Gold, then pay $1 to convert your account to Ultimate. (36 months is the max. If you have anything over 36 it gets wasted)

Boom, you have now paid $5/month for Game Pass. Even if you don’t care about GP Console or Gold, this is still a savings over the regular price.

I believe this is a 1 time deal, so don’t count on repeating this every year. Just prepay for as long as you feel comfortable doing and be done with it.

Yeah the top 10 is pretty solid.

    Also this description:

    Text:
Christy Marx already raised the bar for meticulously researched narratives with the previous year's Conquests of Camelot. But Conquests of the Longbow goes above and beyond. Here's a game packed with heart, natural writing, and much greater polish than its predecessor. It's also gorgeous. Marx builds on the myth/folk history theme established in Camelot but with a much greater sense of itself, coupled with fun, straightforward combat sequences (being able to adjust the Arcade setting is a great option, especially during the archery contest). The Nine Men's Morris mini-game in the pub is a lovely historical touch—the tabletop strategy game dates back to Ancient Rome and would have certainly been played by people in the Middle Ages.

For players who love flavor text and literary Easter eggs, Marx really makes it rain—from a surprise Geoffrey of Monmouth scroll in the monastery to delightful pop culture references (enterprising mess officer Milo Minderbinder from Joseph Heller's satirical masterpiece Catch-22 makes a cheeky "appearance" in the form of a merchant). The fairground event is an onslaught of Sierra's famous in-jokes and in-game cameos—clicking on many characters is like a who's-who roster of developers and designers in the company. The most noticeable downside of Longbow is that the game's "days" are quite unevenly paced, but overall, it features a fantastic balance of puzzles, action, and Marx's earthy, original twist on the Robin Hood legend.

really makes me want to check this out!

I know I had some version of Conquests of Camelot, on some sort of discount "Historical Adventure Pack" CD in the 90s, but literally none of those games worked, I think because they were for Amiga? But it sounded cool, and I was vaguely aware of a sequel.

Not gonna lie (KQ6 spoilers? I guess?) ...
Taking the floating text - like, literally floating in the water - "Where are you going ... ?" and handing it to the Dangling Participle (an opposum-like beast) so that it could fill in the "to?" at the end and thereby fulfill its purposes was ... *chef kiss*

The other thing that drives me nuts about Ultima games and that I would change (IV, V, VI, and VII) is that they created these (especially for the time) incredibly detailed medieval life simulators where people have daily schedules, everyone has a bed they return to at the end of the day, time passes, you can use objects with other objects in cromulent ways (cook meat on a fire, etc) - stuff that many modern games still just take a pass on - and yet it's to no purpose; the only content in the game is main story content. There's nothing that happens that isn't related to collecting all the gems or whatever that you need in the final dungeon. They had the perfect framework for a Skyrim-like experience (but with better writing) but nobody in 1991 had had the idea how to take that to the next level.

Even Ultima IX. For all the shit it deserves it was this big open world RPG like two years before Morrowind.

I still think its a little nuts that it had no loading screens.

I talked about this in this thread a couple years ago but I actually kind of liked police quest 1 specifically for the reasons they hate it. I loved the tedium and nitpicky procedures; the writer is correct to identify it with a kind of Yogi Bear-ish PSA, but it doesn't glorify violence or make police work seem like some kind of cool action movie. You fill out a lot of paperwork, issue minor citations, take statements, and mind your p's and q's. What you do in the game honestly sounds like what I'd expect of the kind of hypothetical, post-defunding public security agency people have talked about this past year.

The opposite for me, I enjoy going back to old adventure games, especially the more experimental ones like Quest for Glory, adventure/RPG hybrids that pretty much don't exist any more. Having not only multiple solutions to the same goals, but those solutions actually making sense blew my young mind.

"Because I've been going on a pro-New Zealand campaign lately, I'm probably going to be meeting with the Prime Minister," Newell said, "and one of the positions I'm going to be arguing for is that, given there is something super valuable that has been created here in New Zealand due to the hard work of the population of New Zealand, there is likely a large want to temporarily relocate production teams into the country."

Newell also suggested that the coronavirus has knocked productivity at Valve down by 50-75 percent, and that it hadn't really come up with a solution to the big changes that working from home forces upon developers. Another reason he might want it to relocate to New Zealand.
