We already know that the DA supplement is in January and the one after that was meant to be Xenos. At this time, with the skull thinger there having multiple eyes it could be DE, ‘Nids, or genecult.
Unless of course it’s the fabled Codex: Kroot Mercenaries that nobody is expecting…
The art piece on the front of the rightmost redacted codex looks like that Xenos art piece they released back when they were previewing 9th that had people guessing at what races were in each of the eight or nine panels.
I wonder if they're doing a Xenos index to get all the Xenos armies datasheets up to speed until their codexes are out.
Edit - this one
The article actually says "see another Xenos race rise up"... New faction maybe?
Yes, one looks to be Sisters; I suspect a lot of the 8th edition book was written with 9th in mind. Not much has changed from the jump in editions with the exception of some common weapon profiles.
The other one I reckon is Genestealer Cult. You can make out the heads of some of the humans there. Would they combine Cult and Tyranids?

So, anyway, now that Marvel is making 40K comics, does that mean Marvel-Earth is canon Terra? Is Reed Richards actually secretly the Emperor? Or is that Charles Xavier? Is Iron Man the original Man of Iron? Do web guns use Peter Parker’s formulation?

Speaking of which
My Zoat for Blackstone Fortress came today after waiting over 6 weeks for it {I think because GW discontinued it they got it from somewhere else instead of refunding my money or something?}
Still this Saturday I think they might show off the Xmas deals and other things thus throwing my budget out the window again

Has anyone got news of the second printing of Indomitus? I paid for it in mid-July, and it is now mid-October. I know it says they should start shipping "within 120 days", but I'm wondering if anyone else received theirs.

Speaking of Knights. With the Castallen going back down to 635, and the new doctrine rule, I tried my Big Bois list tonight against a friend. TL;DR: The Castellan still does work, especially when supported by G-Money's imperial re-roll aura and heroic intervention threat if you charge the knight. It's a shit ton of points to commit, and I wouldn't call it tournament competitive, but it's very strong and fun to play. Even with the detachment taxes involved I start with plenty of CP to support the Knight for a couple of turns. Basically all the Castellan's weapons are blast as well so he's not terribly shabby at taking out horde units if you have nothing bigger to shoot at.
I basically just loaded up the rest of the list with intercessors and assault intercessors to go take objectives. Playing with a couple of different elite choices as well. Ran some eradicators this time, but am going to try the bladeguard veterans next time. Once the models are out the list will have heavy intercessors as well.
Pretty sure (the app at least) it states that every unit from your army (except for the agents of the Imperium) must have the adeptus astartes keyword in order to get doctrines. No way you can include a knight and retain them.
Not that this is an excuse, but it's very likely that GW isn't developing the app. They likely outsourced it and in the world of outsourcing it's incredibly common for some of the more shady shops to way over promise what they can deliver just to bag the contract. For companies like GW that are not tech companies, and don't have the appropriate oversight on staff, it's very easy to get taken for a ride by these app factories.
Still GW's responsibility at the end of the day, but working in the industry, I can see how we get here without GW necessarily being nefarious about it.
I can empathize a little, but ultimately that’s not going to change my overall opinion: GW is about 5-10 years late to develop an app, and if this company they hired isn’t delivering then they need to go a different route. From an outsider’s perspective, I have trouble understanding why they don’t just hire the Battlescribe guys to do this for them. They’ve hired a bunch of other competitors & fans in the past, and honestly that seems like a great marketing & business strategy to me. Make some cool shit for us (for free) and if/when your product becomes a lynchpin of our hobby we’ll hire you.
But I’ll admit though that I’ve got no idea how app development works, or what business is like outside of the military bureaucracy that I’m involved in. I’m sure there’s a lot more to it than the simple reduction I described. And I’m curious to know what that is if you’ve got more insight to share. I’m in somewhat of a mirrored situation right now where my higher headquarters over promised and then tasked me to do something that’s way outside of my expertise and capacity. I got to talk down to a colonel (I said “with all due respect” first, so it’s ok) as to why it’s not cool to task a 2-man shop to do the job of a 15-20 person organization. But ultimately I threw the same challenge back at him: if he’s unhappy with my work then he needs to get someone else to do it. Yelling at me isn’t going to get me the extra help or training I need.

I am very curious about the eldar one now
The ship one with the female captain as well
But the Kill Team preview I am curious as well since could it be like the rogue trader one?
I still feel they need to do a Tyranid one as it would be fun trying to take out a hive ship as many of the armies have different things to do inside a hive ship {both the drukkari and Ad mech want subjects for different reasons, Most want them dead so you could have three way fight the drukkari are there to snatch a carnifex the space marines want it did and the tyranid player wants to make sure either succeed.

I've got a feeling that Sisters of Battle will be one of the Christmas boxes. I'm hoping they announce them soon, because there are a few models I want to pick up, but if I know I can get a good deal on them if I wait a month or so than I would totally do that instead (it's not like I don't have plenty to build and paint in the interim).
Doesn’t the Kill Team teaser say next year? If they were just going to add the new models I think they could do that with another annual supplement, which maybe that’s what it is only coming in the new year. But since the last one was in December last year that would mean there won’t be any content for 2020. I have a feeling it’s going to be a new edition with a new starter with some new set releases to follow.

Really digging the hexmark model but I'm gonna wait to glue the legs to the torso cause I think it will be easier to paint.
I'm torn on the monolith, don't really have any plan on using it so I'm not sure it is worth dropping $170 on right now.
Has anyone done a galaxy paint style? I was thinking of painting the silent king's big cape with a dark color shift paint and then making it look like galaxies on it.

Lychguard or Praetorians? I’ve got a set from the forgebane box and no idea which to build. Actually, I want to build both but obviously, not enough legs or arms.
Praetorians IMO.
A lot of people online are saying lychguard are better, but they’re wrong. Yes they have a lot of attacks, yes they have good stats and are core, but they’re a 5” move melee unit. There’s an argument that taking them with shields and putting them on a point is ok, but honestly warriors/scarabs are better. You can use a nightscythe to make up for the speed, or the veil, but then you’re spending even more points on an expensive unit (and fucking lol if your scythe lives past turn one anyway against a good opponent, have fun spending an extra 150 points for the pleasure of making transport death rolls).
Praetorians are cheaper than scytheguard, fly, have literally double the movement, and have a not inconsiderable shooting profile. Considering you want to use them to clear out things like marines they do the job considerably cheaper and better.
The only notable difference is lychguard being strength 7, but honestly if you want melee that threatens vehicles then destroyers are right there.
A five man squad of sword and board lychguard are a pretty good way to protect a character, depending on what you are up against.
Also keep in mind that they are Core.
Honestly, I don't think they are.
You would be paying 140 points for a squad of 5, just for extra protection over the normal character rules. For 20 points more you could have 10 warriors, or hell, buy a whole other character. Or you could take those extra points and put your lord on a command barge for a massive survivability boost, or if you're protecting a cryptek just buy bin-chickens. It's the reainmator problem, right? Why spend the points on something that maybe might help models survive, when you can just spend those points on more of those models to begin with.
I'd only use the Lychguard as sword and shield to guard points or to guard offensive characters....things like a Lokhurst Lord (not that I'd bring one at this point) or a Skorpekh Lord. In smaller games, 1000 point etc., I've had great success running a Skorpekh Lord being escorted by Lychguard, but that's 1000 points. There's a perverse pleasure for me to literally let the Skorpekh Lord be in front, but having him crowded with Lychguard, daring people to shoot at him....but it's very much a different game at 1000 versus 2000.
I don't think they're bad for 9th. I can see myself trying them out with a Skorpekh or an Overlord in tow. Planting them on an objective with a 2+ / 4++ and an Overlord nearby for a 6 inch pre move followed by a 6 inch real move seems pretty good (due to the Custom Dynasty). The problem is, is that better than doing the same with Warriors or Immortals?

Played against my Astra Militarum bud twice since the last discussion of him. Using Death Guard against him changes it up a lot compared to pre-Codex Necrons. Death Guard are so freaking good right now / Nurglings are insane / there's no way Ironclot Furnace doesn't get nerfed, right? I don't know how he beats Death Guard.
That being said, as the Death Guard player, there is sadness when you can hear the opponents heart break when you make 6 of 9 disgustingly resilient throws.

I have personally had tons of success paring a five-man squad with a scythe-wielding Overlord. It's a very good combination of offense and defense.

5+ saves are the most powerful saves in the game, that's just science fact.
It's the inverse of how a 2+ to wound roll will always fail.
Crusade is awesome... my Indomitus Cap with Bionics and the burning blade... being a space wolf and dropping exploding 4's with a strat plus exploding 6's in the assault doctrine, meant him throwing 12 attacks tonight against a huge mob of necron scarabs. Wounding on 2's, -5ap, 2 damage each. Tons of dead robo-bugs.
The match was close on points but I managed to table my opponent end of turn four. The Angels of Death agenda means +3xp for every astartes unit in my list.... So gooooood.

@TheGerbil You were right btw. We were misreading the codex. My buddy and I misread the section about detachment abilities and extrapolated. You absolutely do lose doctrines with a knight in your list.
Still a really fun list to play, and one I will continue to bring out for fun games. If for no other reason than to use the Castallen I spent a month painting.
So last night my brother, a friend, and I got together for three more crusade games. This time we traveled into the Pariah Nexus (cue spooky sci-fi music)! We played Incursion missions at roughly 800 points. If people don't know, those missions have randomly generated Strategic Setbacks (basically screws with your deployment) and Afflictions (a whole variety of negative effects).
After my warlord Anhokhet the Starwalker, Slayer of the Cosmic Spider, leader of the Eternal Eclipse (also rider of a command barge) was rudely dismantled (largely via mortal wounds) in both battles of our previous session he decided to upgrade with 5+++ vs mortal wounds and to bring Kalugura the Silent Cry (his transcendent C'tan shard). After setting up and tragically informing the three year old that he wasn't able to play "dudes and tanks" with us (he was sent off with an old land raider to play with) we got down to business.
Game 1: the Eternal Eclipse (Thokt Dynasty, -1 toughness aura and 6 inch pre battle move) vs the Bloodied Hand (World Eaters and Night Lords); the mission: Eldritch Encounter; the Affliction: Smothering Silence (-1 to psyker and deny tests)
My one complaint about this campaign book is that the actual deployment zones in the pictures look very little like the ones described by the numbers in the pictures (also the afflictions can be super one sided). We deployed in narrow bands on the long edges of the battlefield (they looked much wider in the picture). The twist for this mission is we got points for killing more units than our opponent in rounds after the first and also points for having units wholly in the other deployment zone at game end. Also half our units started in Strategic Reserve. Did I mention that before? Kind of a big deal.
I won the roll and forced the Bloody hand to go first, they began the battle with Askhal the Slaughterborn with his relic halving all incoming melee damage, (a lord discordant, note: I had never fought before one and had spent the night before looking at his stats and worrying how to handle him) his sorcerer, and a unit of Khorne Berzerkers. I began the battle with Anhokhet, Kalugura, and some scarabs. On his turn he moved his forces forward, and on mine I brought mine up to meet them. My C'tan unleashed an Antimatter Meteor upon the berzerkers who proceeded to...roll three sixes for their 6+++ :x . I chipped off several wounds from Askhal with a Transdimensional Thunderbolt zapping a wound off the sorceror for good measure, shot Askhal for another wound or two and charged into the berzerkers with everything. Kalugura killed several, they fought back and killed two scarabs (one of which resurrected and then Anhokhet and the scarabs finished them off.
Round 2: He brought in his second unit of Berzerkers and charged my scarabs with them. Askhal got buffed to move twice and ran around some ruins and proceeded to grind Anhokhet into the dirt. Unfortunately for him, Kalugura heroically intervened and used Entropic Strike to ignore invulnerable saves and killed him on the spot. On my turn I zapped the sorceror to death with C'tan BS and eliminated the rest of his berzerkers leaving round three to kill off his cultists and warp talons when they finally arrived.
Game 2: the Bloodied Hand vs Hive Fleet Vrille; mission: Crucial Intelligence (5 units start holding a Data Point, each turn you can transfer one with an action to another nearby unit. points for transferring, killing a unit with data, and ending the mission for each data on characters.) Affliction: Labouring Machines (-shooting range for vehicles, -3 move to vehicles. The disco lord was sad)
Unusually this game started with the aggressive World Eaters hiding out so they could transfer data and not be shot in the face by the Exocrine etc. Round two is where things started to get interesting. The Skull Collectors (zerkers) charged into the screen of five Zoanthropes and managed to kill two. Askhal slowly moved behind his obscuring ruins toward the gants on the opposite flank and the Red Skulls (zerkers) crept closer while remaining hidden. The Zoanthropes fell back allowing a majority of the Red Skulls to be shot to bits. In a huge mistake the Exocrine charged into the three remaining Skull Collectors, whiffed on all of his attacks and got chopped down to two wounds. Turn 3 the Skull Collectors finished off the Exocrine, the Red Skulls charged into some Warriors and diced them, and Askhal killed off the Termagants. In turn 4 the Writhing Menace, a Neurothrope, smote the surviving skull collectors, the Red Skulls and Askhal killed off the Hormagaunts and the Omega Tendril (a carnifex). In the final round the sorceror moved to engage the fleeing zoanthropes and Askhal killed off the Writhing Menace. In a last minute surprise however the zoanthropes hit the sorceror with a smite and then landed a headbutt to finish him off. Too little too late however and the Bloodied Hand won on points. Also the warp talons are still somewhere in the warp waiting to be called into battle 8-).
Game 3: The Eternal Eclipse vs Hive Fleet Vrille; mission: Dominate the field (4 obj, 2 at the front of each deployment, points for holding 1+, holding more than opponent, taking obj from opponent, and holding the non deployment zone obj at end of battle.) Setback: delayed reinforcments, Affliction: Unnatural Dread (-1 leadership, always count as half strength for morale)
Anhokhet the Starwalker, Slayer of the Cosmic Spider, Death of the Great Krork Empire went first and moved up the center of the battlefield. I hit the Zoanthrope screen with a meteor, hit his blob with some lightning and then he lit up my scarab screen with his entire army, killing them and then charged Anhokhet with some warriors. Turn 2 I hit the surviving warriors with a 5 damage meteor and killed them off, my lightning rolled a 1 :? and Kalugura charged the zoanthropes and deleted them from existence. The tyranids threw everything at the C'tan (including a mortal wound in the charge phase :x) and with his final attack managed remove the final two wounds with his...Hormagaunts?!? Turn three I engaged his carnifex with my warlord, he fought back well but was annoyed when he rolled five 3's to wound...which doesn't work on quantum shielding (Edit: I have been informed that the 3's were from his Exocrine not carnifex and there were six of them not five). My skorpekhs went after the termagants who were holding an objective but rolled poorly leaving one alive. On his turn he killed my warlord in the shooting phase when I failed all but one 4++ and charged into the skorpekh with the carnifex. That ended in tears for the big guy because skorpekh don't screw around. He also raced his Hormagaunts halfway down the board toward my objectives. The final turn I killed his final termagant with my skorpekh, but he was able to finish the last destroyer with a smite. Between shooting and attrition from my warriors with reapers I was able to remove seven of the ten remaining gaunts, but he used a strategem to race 24" around the scarabs holding an objective and steal it from me, turning a win for me into a loss.
It was a fun evening with some close games with interesting mechanics! Someday I would appreciate my warlord actually surviving a battle but at least he earned another title!

I have personally had tons of success paring a five-man squad with a scythe-wielding Overlord. It's a very good combination of offense and defense.

It's the inverse of how a 2+ to wound roll will always fail.
The match was close on points but I managed to table my opponent end of turn four. The Angels of Death agenda means +3xp for every astartes unit in my list.... So gooooood.

Still a really fun list to play, and one I will continue to bring out for fun games. If for no other reason than to use the Castallen I spent a month painting.
It was a fun evening with some close games with interesting mechanics! Someday I would appreciate my warlord actually surviving a battle but at least he earned another title!
I've seen posts about it but the GW site still says they are on 40mm.
