Comfort [MOVIE] Thread

With everything going on today it feels like a good day to watch some comfort movies.

Comfort movies are those old classics you’ve watched a million times. There’s no surprises or anxiety because you know the story like the back of your hand so you can relax and just enjoy. Sometimes they’re great movies and sometimes they’re terrible but they all have that same warm comfie feeling when you watch them.

Some of mine are

Jurassic Park
Major League
White Men Can’t Jump
A whole slew of horror movies from the 90’s
The Rock
Speed Racer
Necessary Roughness

I don’t know. A bunch more.

I’m starting my day with the 1998 classic Urban Legend.

The Sting is a nice comfort movie for me. Even though it's all heisty, the tone is very fun and low-pressure. Plus there's nothing better than watching young Paul Newman being suave as hell.

This is the End is always a nice background comfort blanket for me, even if it is about literally Armageddon.

Hunt for the Wilder People is good medicine too.

    Otherwise...

    Jurassic Park
    Ghostbusters
    Apollo 13
    Hot Fuzz
    The Last Jedi
    Raiders of the Lost Ark

Not a movie per se, but here's 80 minutes of uncut footage from Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boormans electric bikes as they cruise through South America.

I don't rewatch movies much these days but I saw a new one yesterday: Crawl. If you want a horror movie where the bad guy is a bunch of alligators murdering Floridians during a hurricane, then Crawl is the movie for you.

I liked it! Maybe you will too.

Crawl is excellent. Just a tight horror movie that knows how to have fun and doesn’t waste a second of your time.

I only just watched Romy & Michelle and it is indeed good, and now I got a belated crush on Lisa Kudrow so.

A Big Year is another good one.

lisa kudrow has been wildly underutilized for most of her career

    anyway, my feel-good movies:

    Back to the Future
    Wayne's World
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
the series finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender
    Airheads
    Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I usually get really bored watching movies I've seen before so I don't have a lot of standard comfort go-tos. Well, apart from most of the muppet oeuvre.

but I was thinking of watching Sorry To Bother You tonight, especially if things start to turn sour.

I'm watching Pom Poko and hey turns out this absolutely rules

it starts out as being about little raccoons but then the raccoons get up to some The Warriors type shit, at which point they turn into little guys, and then the little guys have samurai armor

later they sit down with the raccoon council and decide "hmm. we should figure out what humans are" and their first steps are eating some McDonald's and stealing a TV so they can watch wrestling

this is within the first 10 minutes
