What the hell, is James actually going to hold on?
Being a Republican up 14k with a fifth of Wayne County still out is not really where you want to be.

Trump just filed to stop the count on the basis that they didn't have access to watch the ballots being opened. No mention of where they got denied of course.
And Peters is up by 5K votes. WTF.

People are protesting the counting, but it doesn’t matter because Michigan was just called for Biden. But Matt Stafford just got put on the Covid list.......again. Things are happening all of a sudden in Michigan.

It seems you need more than a sternly worded letter to halt counting. Maybe if like his brother or someone was the governor he could...I don't know manipulate the state AG into doing something?
Peters declared victory while James hasn’t conceded.
Does he think he'll net 74000 votes out of Lapeer? Jesus, just fucking go away.
Sidenote: it seems like Peters, for all his boring white guy energy, is one of the few Democratic Senate candidates who understood to tar his opponent by associating him with Trump. I thought Peters also ran a good campaign six years ago, even though it didn't matter because his opponent in that election was such a disaster.

What do the total votes for the House in terms of Democrat versus Republican look like compared to the actual results? Still hilariously gerrymandered?

Once the 2020 census comes in...whenever that happens...the redistricting commission will finally draw up the lines. So expect more lawsuits from the Republicans over that and for them to get it out of state court and go federal.

Protesters holding signs and bullhorns complained of what they are claiming is voting fraud and said Biden didn’t really win the election. Among other things, they demanded a recount of the ballots and called for an investigation into Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
This is going to escalate IMO.

Doubt it. They aren't like a nationwide network of militias.
Also in election time units, Friday was exactly 5000 years ago.

one Republican poll watcher complained that workers were wearing Black Lives Matter gear. She thought one of them — a “man of intimidating size” — had followed her too closely.
Another Republican poll watcher complained about the public address system. Workers were using it to make announcements. It was loud. “This was very distracting to those of us trying to concentrate,” he said.
“I felt intimidated by union people who were staring at me,” one GOP poll watcher wrote.
More of it is rude behavior or unpleasant looks from the Democratic poll watchers.
So there is no significant fraud at all in the lawsuit. It's mostly just people being uncomfortable for whatever reason. The final thing is that they filed in Western Michigan instead of Eastern Michigan so that they could go with the Republican appointed judges. Such a waste of time and money.

Ha. She should see what REAL union intimidation looks like.
Those quotes sound like the poll watchers were intimidated by minorities just doing their job. They sound like sheltered folks who never set foot in a real working-class workplace ever in their lives.
They sound like suburbanites for whom Detroit is the boogie man because it's full of black people. I have interacted with them all my life.

That aside, good to see that the Trump side lawsuits continue to provide comedy gold and pretty much nothing else. For a political side that's constantly mocking strawperson snowflakes, they sure do melt easily from a glance or two.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
Governor Whitmer laid down some new restrictions to try to get COVID under control, and the state House and Senate leaders are both throwing massive tantrums because of course they are. They say she didn’t let them sit in on the process and didn’t give them a say, but apparently all the plan they had, according to the governor’s office, was to do some really, really cool PSAs and, well... hope for the best?
There’s also your bog-standard shithead screaming about impeachment, too. But they don’t have the votes for it in the senate (state law says they need two-thirds of the Senate, they only have 58% if this goes down party lines). So if the usual shitheads get hold of this idea, expect to hear a lot of hooting and hollering the next few months.

And on top of that, we have Dr. Scott Atlas, an adviser to the White House Coronavirus Task Force pushing out this junk:
What the fuck does rise up even mean? Are you calling for super spreader protests? Are you calling for impeachment? Are you calling for revolution? Just don't. Just don't as idiots will take this as a call to action to do whatever they think it means.

Well, we’re finding out who the absolute shitheads in the state are:
The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association is filing suit claiming the restrictions put in place by the governor violate the constitutionally-granted right of due process and the commerce clause. Anything to squeeze dollars out of absolute jackasses willing to risk their lives to come in and drink and spread COVID-19, yeah?
There are also a pair of casinos- Firekeepers (claiming to be a critical part of the infrastructure of the Nottawaseppi Huron band of the Potawatami Indians) and Gun Lake (owned by another band of Indians)- also planning to remain open.
Michigan Speaker of the House: *throws public tantrum on the news because he says the Governor won’t work with them on pandemic response, threatens to tell the court on her*
also the Michigan Speaker of the House: “the only thing we’ll support in pandemic response is PSAs telling people to wash their hands and nothing else, we want to leave everything open because HERD IMMUNITY, WOO! And our donors want to squeeze stupid people for money.”
Dude, she just has to make a good-faith attempt to work with you assholes, the court order doesn’t mean she has to do everything you demand and bring you a beer on fucking command. She involved you on the call, you stomped your feet and held your breath on anything above a series of PSAs and no lockdown, and she went with her plan anyways, so I imagine you’re kind of shit out of luck?

You're not wrong in general but those casinos? It would probably be really hard to argue that they aren't vital to the infrastructure/economies of those tribes.

Just one more reason we need Federal spending, so these superspreader places can close without endangering the employees
Herd immunity without a vaccine usually only happens when a population is devastated by a plague... it's the last rescue from an extinction level disease, not a protective mechanism for a healthy population.
The Dakotas are nearing healthcare collapse and are having the highest per-capita infection rates in the world. They are, at current rate, THREE YEARS away from reaching herd immunity.

Also for good or bad there is an argument about tribal sovereignty even when it comes to making bad public health choices.
I don't / didn't have issues with Navajo Nation or the tribes in the Dakotas setting up checks leading into their communities when their governors wouldn't do anything so it is kind of hard to say it shouldn't cut both ways. It's not like what these tribes are doing is unprecedented - 2/3 the country is keeping shit open when they shouldn't.
Again though, this just begs the question about why we don't have a unified Federal response and guidelines that can be followed rather than just 'yolo, good luck suckers'.

Anyone pushing for herd immunity is saying that they're okay with ~3% of the population dying.

More probably, since three years of that level of suffering will destroy the hospitals and workers there utterly

If it continues the exponential thread, the good news it won't be 3 years.
The bad news is the death rate will skyrocket even faster as the healthcare system collapses, nurses, doctors, and orderlies burn out and bail, and no one can get essential healthcare.
For those of you who lived around the Detroit area and were into alternative or new rock music, you will be familiar with the 89X radio station. Although it is technically a Canadian radio station, it definitely served the Detroit area and featured alot of local music. Well, it's changing formats in less than an hour today at noon, and their statement about it says that fans of the radio station "likely won't like what's coming next"
Given that both the Speaker and president of the Senate were just called to Washington DC tomorrow to get strongarmed speak with Trump about election certification, I think their minds are less focused on Gov Whitmer's dastardly plan to save lives.
I mean, like I said, they don't have a snowball's chance of pulling this off- I imagine this is a chance to smooch big orange ass for re-election bucks once they come back up for re-election. They don't have the votes in the Senate, so this is really all pointless and a dog and pony show at best.
I'm going to take the state board member already filing an extension request as a prophecy as to how things are going to go: Chatfield and Shirkey are totally going to come home on marching orders from Trumpy the Clown and his three-ring circus and try to ratfuck the electors.
Though I would hope the both of them realize that they represent the people of the state of Michigan, and not a large, orange, whiny manchild who is hanging onto the reins of power like a six-year-old with a deathgrip on the door at Chuck E. Cheese while screaming how he doesn't want to leave yet because he wants more tokens and pizza and soda.
