Rick Santorum?!?!? with an important fact check for our worries about ratfucking:

Even IF the Pennsylvania vote was somehow invalidated, Penn state law is that then the electors would automatically go to the winner of the nationwide popular vote. The Pennsylvania legislature has zero control over how electors are assigned.

Soo basically if Trump succeeded in invalidating the results, it would seal Biden's victory. l o l

The gist of most of Zeno's paradoxes is that if you break down the movement of an object into increasingly smaller increments, the object cannot reach its goal unless you repeat the incremental periods an infinite amount of times (which is impossible for humans to calculate). Like, to get from point A to Point B, first you must get to 1/2 the distance, then another 1/4 of the distance, then another 1/8 of the distance, etc. You never reach B if you have to keep calculating the incremental fractions.

Not sure how we stop it though since the accusations of cheating are based on literally nothing.

    Win again.

Our democracy is breaking down and right wing terrorism is on the rise already. A bunch of chucklefucks crowing “civil war” and even real politicians implying this election is illegitimate. Fascists don’t need to win an election to take power and they don’t need to take power to be trouble. if Trump decides to make a stink about this and enough people follow him bad things will happen.

“Win again” isn’t really an answer to that.

I hate to say it, because it won’t be popular, but the best way to fend off fascism globally has been for the left and non-fascist center-right to work together. I don’t know how feasible that is in the US.

IMO, you're describing the modern Democratic Party.

See, I knew that would be the response. But if you really want to make sure the fascist uprising is stamped out, you would have to eat some real, true shitburgers like allying with someone like Romney or even Rubio.

If that’s unpalatable to the American left, and I’m pretty sure it is, then you just have to make sure you don’t lose. We didn’t lose this time, soon we can start working on next time.

Or, like, Kasich? And inviting him to speak at the Democratic party's largest event?

Which was notably not around for Zeno, and why the paradoxes aren't that stupid. They weren't so much "motion doesn't exist" as they were "wait, an infinite sum of smaller and smaller times seems like it would be infinite time, so that would mean the math says motion doesn't work, but motion clearly works."

The arrow paradox was specifically about the illusion of motion and was only really solved with relativity, from what I can remember of my PHL 110 class

    it's solved with calculus

the problem is that you can't add an infinite number of things together, you'll never reach the end

aristotle had a solution by talking about the difference between potential infinities and actual infinities. zeno's paradoxes grasp potential infinities, you can potentially divide a distance an infinite number of times, or potentially have to reach an infinite number of midpoints. it's not total satisfying but it was accepted until calculus just went and showed how to add the infinite number of numbers between 0 and 1 to get 1.

zeno's paradoxes are interesting relics of an age, but they are mostly illuminating of how different our assumptions about the world are due to our increase in general knowledge. in much the same way as the Parmenidian problem of motion doesn't hold water anymore.

Leftists have been trying to work with moderates for quite some time. Not all of us obviously but it is still pretty galling to constantly be told we need to work with people that won’t even give us a seat at the table.

The flipside to the way that leftists refused to work with moderates during the rise of Hitler is that moderates also refused to work with leftists and found that they preferred working with fascists in the form of making concession. They did until they didn’t anyway.

Biden is currently averaging 65-69 percent of the votes being counted. If that rate continues he will win. But with such a small amount of votes left there's no way to know right this second where they're coming from. If the percentage gets under 60 it's trouble.

The problem is an extremely large fascist voting bloc.

Fascism thrives despite being unable to hold a majority when it can convince other factions that it is less objectionable than their enemies.

Historically around the globe, you can hold that at bay one of two ways. Starve it of allies or beat it repeatedly.

We beat it this week. We beat it in 2018. I believe we can continue to beat it.

And that’s all I’ll say because the direction this conversation goes is extremely predictable and can quickly pull a thread into the weeds

Correct, on the philosophy end of things.. After General realitivity started circulating in 1915 logicians and physicist kinda got together and declared an adequate solution based on spacetime's ability to move and change independent of observation.

As others have said. Mathematically it was solved once Newton and Leibnitz inflicted calculus on the world.

GA just dropped another small vote tally, this time a total of 1.7k votes. Biden gained 1037 of them, total differential is at 1,479.

    only 7.2k votes are left.

if my lateheadmath is right that means biden is... on track to lose the state by like 30 votes?

    or up by 30?

    eeee

Biden is currently averaging 65-69 percent of the votes being counted. If that rate continues he will win. But with such a small amount of votes left there's no way to know right this second where they're coming from. If the percentage gets under 60 it's trouble.

Fortunately the tally of outstanding votes will eventually actually reach zero rather than just infinitely approach it.
Yeah, it FEELS like it's Zeno's paradox because we lack patience and humans are shit at subjective measures of time. But if you actually track the votes being counted, they are being counted in a predictable, linear fashion.

I’d still like to know why they basically turned off all their vote counting ability before they finished though. I mean they’ve counted over 5 million ballots in the last few days. Easily over 10k per hour at its peak. But they can’t manage more than like 10k all fucking day?

I’m sure there is some logical explanation, like day of votes are counted differently, or they started counting weeks ago, or something. But man is it frustrating.

I would imagine these are all the votes that have problems or challenges with them. The written in Lizard People for dogcatcher ballots and such.

Biden won 61% of that drop. If he keeps that exact same win rate and there are 7.2K votes are left, then he wins by 105.

That's in recount and possible change territory, leading to the possibility of Bush v Gore 2: Now with Peachtree Street

Doubtful it will come to that. Biden needs either PA or NV + AZ to win, and he's on track to win all three.

Day of votes you just feed through the machine, get the count. Mail in votes you have remove from envelopes, ensure they were sent correctly, verify the person didn't vote day of, verify the ballot is acceptable, and then get it into a workable state with the creases from mailing to feed it through the machine.

Those last 1700 votes that Biden won 59/41 were from a fairly red county. We are still waiting for the extremely blue Clayton and Gwinnett drops

I'm pretty sure there are still well over 10k left across the state. There were like, 9k alone between Chatham and Clayton before the small Clayton numbers started rolling in.

Napkin math my brother and I just worked out from previous totals is ~12k left across the state.

As others have noted, all of this normally goes on behind the scenes, in the days and weeks after the networks have called the winner(s) on election night and everyone's gone to bed. This time, we're all sitting around watching the sausage get made in mostly real time - and in multiple states, not just FL as in 2000. And a lot of those states had very old rusty grinders, or had to order a bunch more and set them up and find enough people to turn all the handles because this election is Huge and Weird.
