I just noticed that the PS5 library no longer lets you hide games. That's a pretty significant downgrade, IMHO.

It also shows every game you have ever played in your collection AND filters are reset every time you leave your collection.

    Bad UI is bad.

Welp, I just got my first system crash.

Not sure how long it was idle, but I left Spider-Man Remastered on the pause menu while doing other stuff. Eventually I was taking a nap on the couch and heard the PS5 beep (don't remember once or multiple) and shut itself down.

Trying to start it back up again just now, pressing the PS button on the controller didn't work, then when I hit the power button on the console once, that beeped but also didn't work. But then pressing the PS button again turned it on.

Side Note: This was after the update mentioned above that apparently included a fix for Rest Mode crashes.

But also I had already disabled Rest Mode anyway soooo

That's a pretty niche example I think, the video it's clipped from implies it's a software bug with that specific title. Here's known issues with xbox at this moment:

-Remote Play can brick your console
-Some consoles produced in August are prone to overheating
-Cold War next gen version causing crashes to dashboard

None of that seems common mind you. Not anywhere near as common as the problems Spider-Man seems to be having (and the overheating issues I'm hearing about PS5 units)

Both consoles are having issues but so far my SX can multitask multiple games with little issue.

It's not a niche example, virtually every 3rd party game on the series X runs consistently worse than the PS5 version currently, despite the system technically being more powerful. Whether that has to do with devs getting SDK's really late in the game or not has no bearing on it being an issue. It very much is one.

Well it's nice Best Buy is doing something about bots but I can't be up 24/7 stalking their website to catch the random unannounced 3am restock.

Have you tried using Nowinstock? It has an alarm system that will ping you and it actually works for the most part.

NowInStock is basically useless right now. There is such high demand that they disabled the texting notifications so now you get email notifications that are always far too late.

It seems to me more like certain devs received their XSX dev kits late. The devs for Dirt specifically say it isn't the final version and will be updated over time. It's not a massive problem like say, consoles constantly needing a full rebuild from a crash

Okay first, congrats on your PS5!

Second, I've had Miles freeze once in-game, just closed the game and restarted, and one other time the console automatically turned itself into low-power mode when I walked away mid-Miles game for like two hours, and froze when I tried to restart. Demon's Souls hard froze once at the card from the main UI, and from that I couldn't access the system menus, had to hold down the power button and do a database rebuild. And DS once had big graphical glitches before a restart.

Just set your PS5 not to enter low-power mode, and play Miles it's fucking awesome.

So I always eventually grab the latest PS, but usually go for Xbox first and that was my plan this year, but this gen I'm thinking I might try to grab a PS5 first. The Series X looks sexy, but no launch titles and the fact that I have a game capable PC again means that I can pretty much play most, if not all, of the Xbox exclusives through gamepass or xcloud. I haven't followed it too much though. Any wide spread issues with the PS5? Any reason to wait besides the fact that there aren't any available yet? And do we know when they'll start showing up in stores again? I'm probably looking at January myself if possible.

bah, this was actually handled in a shitty way.

I had the Disc version for PS4. That save is backed up and on my PS5 console. That PS4 and Disc copy of Spidermans no longer exits in my house so I have no access to it. Also it wouldn't matter since I have the digital version of the PS5.

On the PS5 I got the remaster edition since it wasn't much more than just buying Miles Morales by itself BUT this means I have no way to ever get my old save into the PS5 version. This blows. Could they really not figure out a way for the PS5 version to check the PS4 cloud saves area for a import?! :(

Yea, I thought this was weird, too. I figured it would just taking my existing PS5 save that I moved over and use that.
So I had to fire up the PS4, SLOWLY download the patch (PSN on my PS4 is crazy slow for whatever reason) and then that completely broke the game where I couldn't launch it. I rebooted and it had to install the game from disc like it was the first time and then it wouldn't launch. It started downloading the patch again and I'm about to try again and see if it's still broken.

EDIT - nope, still broken. It seems to be stuck in a loop of install > patch > break > install from disc again. It's installing from disc on its own right now for the second time =(.

Not to say there haven't been issues but for what it's worth I had zero crashes in my playthrough of MM. The only bug I encountered was one where an objective didn't update and reloading the checkpoint fixed it, which as far as bugs go is uhh, pretty tame.

    1. There have been issues reported, but nothing worse than the typical console launch, IMHO.
    2. At present, PS5 games cannot be stored on an external HD and there are no SSDs available for the internal expansion port. So if you're the kind of gamer who likes to use a lot of storage, you may wish to wait. VRR is also not supported at present.

Its more like the dev tools themselves are undercooked, which is why the dev kits were late. I don't know if that is going to magically fix performance down the road but Microsoft is definitely behind the ball on this point compared to Sony.

Games can be patched, it's not like they're locked into one state. That's why it would be nice if Insomniac acknowledged the Spider-Man hardlocks and told people they were working on it more directly. The DIRT devs have assured fans it's not the final state of the game. I had to dig around to find a tweet where Insomniac mentioned it, 13h ago they said they fixed the crash but in the replies people reporting it still happening. They responded to that tweet saying they are aware and working on it. So I had to read a whole twitter thread just to find out "we fixed it... Okay we didn't but we will!" When it should just be its own tweet.

Seems to me both consoles were rushed to market and yep... Probably could have been delayed to improve performance and stability across the board. Also, probably less overheating and bricked consoles too.

The dev kit on the Xbox was given out much later and looks like devs are having trouble with the API, not a big tech guy but that’s what I’ve heard. Essentially it means while the power is there the software side is like 6 months behind the ps5. Which is why assassins is noticeably worse for instance. While it will eventually even out with time it’s still frustrating to spend big on a powerful console and have it be running games poorly, like assassins being pretty bad at staying at 60 (causing more screen tearing too) and not staying anywhere near 4K the vast majority of the time

Basically it’s a bummer but not permanent bad news

Yeah. It's why I still think they prob could have left both consoles in the oven for a while longer to make sure these kind of problems can get sorted. Like stuff like this:
    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-11-20-the-balls-in-sonys-court-for-ps4-games-running-at-120fps-on-ps5
In the end it seems like actual bricked consoles aren't common on either side, so here's hoping the majority of problems get addressed before long

I've been playing through Remastered, and I've encountered one, maybe two bugs.
The only one I can definitely put on the game was me completing all the towers ASAP because I always OCD these things as soon as they show up, and it started playing the 'towers completed' conversation with Yuri every time I went to the overworld.
To their credit, I reported this to Insomniac and they did get back to me about it with questions after their first auto response of standard fixes; is it the latest version (yes), do you have external storage connected (no), were you downloading anything (no), have you tried loading a backup save (yes, and that worked and the problem didn't repeat).

The other one was more serious but I don't know it's a game or console thing. A couple of times I put it in Rest, then when I started it up again the screen was just 'snow', like the old no signal stuff you got on TVs in the old days. This has sorted itself out after a minute or so of me panicking and pressing buttons randomly, and I've ended up back on the Home screen.
I'm just avoiding Rest Mode for now, which is less of an inconvenience when I can start the console and load the game from scratch in about the time it took to start from Rest on my PS4.

Right now I'm missing the lack of Update Logs more than folders. A lot of games never used it (Doom Eternal just has half a dozen of updates that 'improve performance and bug fixes' and nothing else), but some of them actually said when they addressed something.

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

Keeping it short and sweet I’ve been pretty happy with the PS5. Bar one or two crashes (which loading back in a couple of seconds make painless). Biggest fun has come from demon souls which has been a utter joy to play and loading times have made “jolly co-operation” a breeze.

Also cracked into new game+ on ghost of tushima and having platinum the first playthrough on a base PS4 it’s now soooooo pretty.

I've actually been avoiding Miles because I thought that's where the crashes were happening, and I've played several hours of Remastered at this point with no crash or issues of any kind. Seems every experience will be different.

Yeah, I've already chipped a good chunk off that $100 price difference by getting FF7R for 25 bucks. Couple more of those and the disk drive will have paid for itself.

Just FYI: If you preorder Watch Dogs Legion at Best Buy you get $10 off... And the game is currently at $30.

Wow that game got cheap fast

I mean there is a pretty huge PSN Black Friday sale going on right now. A few of the games I’ve seen cheaper physical by a little bit but not a crazy amount ($20 for watch dogs seems a bit off though). I’ve seen some titles that are cheaper on the digital sale though (Control Ult Ed. For one)

Ha, fucking knew it, Kohl's cancelled my supposedly-confirmed order first thing this morning. What a garbage company, I knew they wouldn't have their shit in order for something like this. Sigh, back to the hunt.
I was worried about this but didn't want to burst your bubble. Everyone on r/ps5 was super excited to get it on Kohls and I figured they couldn't possibly have that much stock. Guess it was true.

So y'know how when it got to that scene in Spider-Verse where Miles' Dad is talking to him through the door, or when Miles hugs him at the end and you always get a little misty at it? Or at least I do.

Beat Miles Morales last night and that wasn't mist or misty those were tears blocking all my vision and runnin' down m'cheeks. Miles suffers a little from its story being told too quickly - I didn't think it could manage to feel so big by the end after less time to lay groundwork - but god damn.
