Star Wars is the story about Ahsoka Tano and her growth as a force user. Her story became so popular that a variety of spin off series set in the same universe, also referred to as Star Wars, was created.

It's also a universe where Hungarian manifested on an alien planet completely devoid of previous Magyar influence within the fourth wall.

The Clone Wars Cartoon is really quite good, even if I am not sure how realistic for the show the Onderon arc is. I'm kind of baffled why Dooku didn't just order the droid army to just purge the civilian population, because they've certainly had no problem doing that elsewhere. I guess he doesn't really give a shit about the system that much?

Also that analogy to the Russia vs. Afghanistan war at the end there.

Outright Genocide tends to cause bad publicity, which would hurt the CIS cause elsewhere. I would not be fond of a government that is ostensibly founded on self-determination started a genocide of people that wanted to self-determine.

Also a lot of Onderon was pro-Separatist.

Also, Also. He was aware that Palps was playing both sides, being a Sith and all. What would he care if Onderon broke free of the CIS? He was on the winning side, no matter what(until he wasn't).

The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.

They've already demonstrated several times in the show that they're huge fans of outright genocide, burning civilian populations and so forth. Given their propaganda efforts, I'm not sure why they would just allow them to (basically) give the system over to the Republic in this case. It just seems rather weird given their behaviour elsewhere.

Edit: I love how Clone Wars basically treats Grievous going "Kenobi" every time they meet as the meme that it is.

Sure is a lot of not Ahsoka Tano going on in this thread

    Know what would fix that?

A good ol’ round of talking about Ahsoka Tano telling the Jedi to go fuck themselves and being 100% right.

I am looking forward to that (I already knew that was going to happen).

Edit: Alright, I have finally got to this little general and droids thing the previous thread has made me dread. It's already annoying and really weird 5 minutes in.

I got to the episode where Tano leaves the Jedi order, that was really heart breaking but I was surprised it was actually something they would allow. You're basically letting someone who is a living weapon go wandering about doing whatever they want.

The Jedi have never cared if someone left the Order, although that's mainly because almost no one ever does. Count Dooku was a Jedi Master and he left, and IIRC in AotC they talk about he's one of like less that a dozen folks who have ever left the Order in a thousand years.

It's amazing seeing how close they got to finding out about the clones...

I don't think I've binged a show like this in a long time. It gets so good!

Membership isn’t really mandatory, for adults anyway. They know other force users exist and usually let them be if they don’t want to join, so long as they aren’t harming others.

Ahsoka Tano is arguably the best retcon in Star Wars.

I certainly remember back in 2008 thinking "oh no this is going to be so tonally dissonant with Episode Three" and in the end, they leant into that to great effect.

In that vein I would say maybe Maul. Such a dumb sounding idea to bring him back and it let to such a good character and stories. He also gets to be part of pretty much all the best duels.

Would her "death" and rescue in Rebels be considered a retcon?

Yes. No quotes around that word though.

    However it could be argued...
That this was Filoni's plan all along (it 100% was), so it isn't really a narrative retcon so much as it is just time travel being a bit shit with linear continuity.

  • QuidQuid Definitely not a banana Registered User regular
It was purposely vague so personally I lean towards Filoni planning it.

Given how coherent the Clone Wars series has felt and how well it has built up to what happened in Revenge of the Sith, I can believe that Filoni is a man who has a careful plan. The way he introduces characters and then uses them in brilliant/creative ways later is masterful, such as Domino Squad who I am certain he picks off one by one over the course of the series. If he manages to be put in charge of the movies as well, this could be so very good.

I'm maintaining that The Mandalorian is Favreau petitioning to replace Kennedy, and have him and Filoni be a more hands on version of Feige (hands on being actually directing and shooting content, not just managing things).

Wondering how the hell the Bad Batch got made. Did they make a deal with the devil to have an excellent second half in return for a terrible first half?

  • HellboreHellbore A bad, bad man Registered User regular
Bad Batch was the most complete episodes they had at the time of production shut down, so I'm not surprised they just finished those up over the other partially complete episodes

Gotta have that filler! Edit: that is, as a kids show with a high episode count there is only so much hard/important plot. And you gotta have filler in order to make the episode “requirement” that kids can consume.

Like hellbore said the bad batch arc already existed as part of the last season and had voice acting and rough animation already done. I think they were "watchable" episodes, either as some dvd extra or on StarWars.com? I've had seen them somewhere before anyway. Only slight adjustments were actually done to the contents of the episodes, like they removed a scene with Anakin finding out that the bad batch have a pin-up of Padme as nose art on their ship.

So these were probably done for the new season for this me and budget reasons? Or maybe just really likes the bad batch. They're getting a spin off after all. (Monkey paw, I guess)

God damn this final series of the Clone Wars is so good. I am extremely impressed with how they have managed to expand on the events of Revenge of the Sith. Top notch action as well.

Maul Vs Ahsoka was done with Ray Park and Lauren Mary Kim for real which is one of the reasons it looks so good

That imagery in the finale was astounding. I'm so glad I decided to watch this series while waiting for things to update/compile.

I have to say that my favourite things about the way the series went was the deemphasis - eventually - on Grievous and the fact the series really became about Ahsoka after a certain point. Those four last episodes are some of the best Star Wars ever. I really hope Rebels ends up being this good, or at least is going to end up there eventually.

I just watched Rebels for the first time over the last couple of weeks.

It starts off pretty rough/juvenile but it's absolutely worth seeing it through to the end.

I've yet to delve into Clone Wars but having seen all of Rebels I'm amazed I made it through the front half of season 1 on a week to week basis.

It's worth it now because it one hundred percent pays out and it's possible to binge or skip a little if it's crushing you.

I will never not be amazed by how Ahsoka went from being the annoying kid sidekick/kid insert character to probably the best developed, most interesting character of the entire franchise, and legit bad ass to boot.

  • honoverehonovere Registered User regular
Rebels similarly starts with an annoying kid character, but he grows up fast. If you can make it through the first half of season 1 you're golden. The animation style also takes a bit getting used to. Everything bin space looks great from the beginning but the character models always feel a bit awkward. Maybe it's just because (almost) no-one in Rebels wears any kind of robes, dresses or any flowy clothes at all.

The thing that constantly sticks out to me is that the visual style is relatively simplistic (not bad, just very clean and simple) in order to reduce animation costs, but then the mouths are hyper-animated. It's almost like all the character models are just there to carry around the lower half of the face, which is the center of attention for what feels like every posture and movement. It beats the characters flapping their mouths like muppets, but it's an odd thing to focus character animation and movement on.

But the lack of flowy robes is for a couple reasons. One, this is shortly before the OT and thus there are basically no Jedi and definitely nobody dresses as one. Two, both Clone Wars and Rebels are heavily designed around trying to keep rendering costs down and simulating cloth either takes time to animate or time to render the physics. In both series, most clothing is just a texture; there's also rarely consistency on what looks like cloth and what acts like cloth. Armor will bend just like cloth, they just try to keep armor off joints and whatnot to make it less obvious.

I was always kind of meh about Vader until Rebels. Everyone would go on about what a terrifying villain he is but the books and comics always failed to capture it for me.
Seeing him in motion, fighting a Jedi and padawan single handedly, helped a lot.
