My xbox controller may just be old, but is there a problem with the sprint bash? I got the skill, and it's supposed to use stamina when you're charging something, but it never triggers. Just me, or anyone else have this problem?

So many skills just seemed to not work, so I'd chock that up to that.

I keep getting repeating dialogue. This game is so damn glitchy. Something was definitely rushed in production. I love it but dayem.

I wish they’d just gone for it and made immortals fenyx rising a Saturday morning cartoon assassins game. It’s basically identical gameplay and it would’ve been a fun little twist on the universe.

Also the bow stun finisher kicks ass. I am legolas

Is anyone having more trouble with stealth after the patch? Guards seem much more quick to spot you now.

Stealth is abysmal and bordering on pointless in this game. I've started just charging straight in since it's almost impossible to successfully stealth, and there is no punishment for failing.

I’m not sure if the guards notice me faster, I think they might, but some of the skills make stealth much better than odyssey if you can time the mini game right, you can take out heavies instantly. Odyssey stealth was definitely easier, but I feel like it’s still viable for clearing out heavies here. But overall you’re right in that it’s only really necessary if you’re in an area over your level and want to clear out heavies before a fight starts, if you’re in an area at your level there’s no reason not to go full Viking

Odyssey just was way better for stealth abilities tho, like the teleporting and such

I’m hoping the next game leans more heavily on assassinations. Fingers crossed China

In Valhalla drawing your bow while hidden in bushes makes you visible, unlike in Odyssey. I keep forgetting that since I abused it so much in Odyssey.

Stealth in restricted areas does seem harder, enemies will quickly aggro once you are in line of sight, unlike previous games where everyone seems near-sighted. And even then they'll just go "you don't belong here" and slowly approach to investigate.

The distrust areas now seem to be like that, and I treat those areas now like a serial killer. When spotted they go "why the hood, i want to talk to you" then stroll towards you. Mechanically it seems the game wants you to calmly get to a blend in spot, but instead I lead them somewhere secluded and assassinate them. Makes the distrust areas more fun to me that way.

I had a skill by the end of Odyssey that essentially let me use adrenaline to immediately stealth kill anything, especially if I put the right gear on. It's not the one shotting that's the problem, it's that none of the areas are designed very well for stealth gameplay. I could generally work out a path in Odyssey or Origins that would let me at least theoretically clear a place undetected, in this I see a path and then it won't let me assassinate someone from above because they're sitting down, or something, and then I try to jump down and it jumps me over their head and now I'm perched on a campfire staring at them and I have to get in a fight, or nobody ever comes to investigate a whistle, or I haven't found the skill book that lets me put people to sleep, or...just they're standing in a group of four and nobody moves, ever. It's just, really frustrating, and yeah, eventually you just run in and fight, because they've made that viable enough that in most cases you should just do that, but the one mission I successfully stealthed through was one where I had to burn an entire town and in that one I had an NPC complaining at me that stealth was boring.

Yeah I’m hoping they finally refocus on some proper stealth and assassinating gameplay and missions for the next game. Even a narrative where you’re like a proper assassin, ninja, etc, would be nice. The last 3 games you’ve basically been a hero sheriff, a mercenary, and a Viking, none of which really emphasise stealth as characters

Also does it drive anyone else nuts that every single vendor that’s behind a table you can’t talk to from the other side of that table? You have to go around to talk to them. It’s like ffs play test this kind of odd shit. It’s little stuff that just adds up to be annoying

Also what’s the hook button for when fishing?

Yep, I'm suddenly being spotted through walls every now and then. I'm still nearly invisible most the time, but every now and then its as if I'm the Macho Man Randy Savage yelling my way through an enemy camp.

I realized today that I don't actually enjoy any of the puzzles they make you do to get a lot of the wealth and artifacts. It's all just a lot of busywork. I don't remember Odyssey having nearly as much of that stuff, but maybe I'm only remembering the good parts.

I think the combat might be the only thing they actually improved for this game. Everything else is the same or worse. I still like the game but if another game comes out before I finish it (*cough*Cyberpunk*cough*), I'll have no trouble dropping it.

I really want them to go back to the old style games. They were simply better. Give me a large open, meticulously detailed city and a game that only takes 20 hours and doesn't overstay its welcome instead of these giant open mostly empty countries and games that take 60 hours and I never finish.

My hope would be Southeast Asia and/or India - primarily because of the mix of urban areas, gorgeous historic architecture, and wilderness full of nasty predators like tigers and crocodiles. Wolves, bears, and wild boars are having to do a lot of heavy lifting in Valhalla.

I personally hope that they don't go all in with the stealth again. Having to hide in the grass for 20 minutes and if you get spotted you have to restart the mission again was anti-fun for me. I'm so glad that I can just blitz into a town and straight murder everyone in front of everyone. That gameplay was way more fun for me.

It's just the bugs that really killed it for me.

Got to the title screen after 10 hours.

Game is pretty cool so far! Really leaned into the RPG stuff in ways that I like. The skill tree is great so far. I dunno who said it still feels like you don't have choices because I feel like I am already CONSTANTLY making choices with where to go for every skill point. Something that the last two games were severely lacking.

This is so much improved in that regard.

Oh also there is a lower frame-rate mode to avoid the screen tearing. So yay! 60fps is not important to me but I hate screen tearing.

Well let me be clear, I don't want them to bring back tailing missions but I want the games to go back to a single location with a linear discrete mission structure and assassinations. I find every mission in these new games boil down to essentially the same thing: travel through open world to mission marker, kill everyone, repeat. In the old ones, especially for the assassinations, it felt like you had to really watch guards and patrols, hide yourself and figure out how to ambush your target.

That's fair. As long as they remove the animation for bumping into people and causing me to trip. That kind of shit got old in the older ones and even in this one when you're in Lunden.

Went back home after finishing Lincolnshire, Reda was telling his story, I listened in, and afterwards I could talk to him and buy stuff.

It wasn't in the patch notes so I assume the game just happened to stumble on the correct trigger for the events to work.

Anyway this chest piece is neat but I don't like that it has smoke particles so into the closet it goes.

Did they ever bring back the mission rating system from that one game? They apparently actually used that for feedback, though it was germane to the plot of the game because you worked at a fake video game company.

I wish they'd ditch npc companion escort quests next. Like literally so many broken or bugged quests involve the unreliable as fuck npcs you need in places. Especially if you have to travel large distances with them.

Also I wish someone at ubisoft would play RDR 2 to see how a game that actually uses horses well uses them as opposed to the dynasty warriors crap they got in this one.

The issue is that opals you've collected are saved to your account, not to your save, and your map can get out of sync. So you can very easily get into a situation where your in-game map has opal markers all over the place that you've already collected since your map is save-file specific. It is literally unfixable at the moment as even starting a brand new game doesn't fix it. Unfortunately, for the many of us with OCD (take a look at the forums) it's kind of a dealbreaker at least temporarily.

The way I play these games is to thoroughly scrub an area of quests and collectibles before I move on. It's how my brain works. This opal map bug may sound trivial, but for someone like me, it isn't.

To be clearer: Theee are a finite number of opals you can collect on the game world and they are at static locations. There are map markers for each of these opals. If you collect an opal it saves if you your account and removes its map marker in your save file. If you then reload an older saved game from before you collected the opal, the map marker will reappear on the map even though no opal will be there so the game cannot trigger a map marker.remove(); event or whatever the hell it does. It seems like such a crazy design oversight to me it’s giving me pause about delving into the game proper.

Also this isn’t intermittent or random - this issue impacts anyone that collected an opal and resumed from a previous save before the opal was collected.

    No?

They mark when you use the eagle or raven or flying cat animal thing...

I mean, I preordered but that sounds like cheat DLC which I highly doubt would be a preorder pack in. Also, why would your bird’s ability to mark collectibles be a preorder ability...? I’m confused. You’re saying your animal doesn’t mark collectibles on the map?

Granted I don't use Synin a ton but I don't think I've ever seen that behavior. Just them highlighting in white when I pulse Odin's Sight.

Edit: I've seen the bird mark events/artifacts on my map but not opals, no. There's a map of opal locations that you can buy in the cash shop so I figured you were talking about that.

I'm playing on the middle exploration difficulty. Might just be that I don't spend enough time using the raven since I'm not on Pathfinder.
