I am a sad person today.

Alexi Laiho, lead guitarist & vocalist of Children of Bodom passed away

CoB was the band which got me into the metal scene. Also the first band I've seen live, and went to watch them another two times. I've listened to thousands of hours of their stuff.

Some songs of theirs I really like:

    And a silly one:

He also did some of these:

Oh shit, really? I wasn't ever really all that into Children of Bodom but they were always kinda in my peripherals. Thats a big bummer.

  • hatedinamericahatedinamerica Registered User regular
Damn that sucks. Children of Bodom put on one of the best metal shows I've ever seen.

He also had a short-lived band with his first wife Kim Goss. Sinergy was basically female fronted power metal with some punk sensibilities.

They were even able to write a song about Xena that wasn't campy or cheesy, just straight up badass:

First they came for the Muslims and we said...NOT TODAY MOTHERFUCKERS!

Off the recommendation of @Straightzi in the holiday forum music thread, I've been listening to a lot of World's Strongest Dog by Long Neck, lately. I really, really like this record! Tickles the Speedy Ortiz/Ratboys/Lady Lamb part of my brain.

"They Shoot Horses" and "Slowly, Slowly" are my favorite songs, but there really ain't on a bum track on the record.

Hell yeah dude, I'm glad you like them. Their first album is also quite good, if you're left wanting more:

I really enjoyed this. I don't think I appreciated it as much as a guitarist would mind you

    Yo this owns.

Molten variables hiss and roar. On my mind-forge, I hammer them into the greatsword Epistemology. Many are my foes this night.

Here's a little something for those that like the music theory equivalent of differential equations:

Okay so Bruce Springsteen is one of my top five artists, but there is a caveat, there's a line I will not cross with the Boss, and that line is anything released after Born in the USA.

anyway, one song of his that is drastically underrated is Meeting Across the River. Its placement does it no favors, being immediately overshadowed by fucking Jungleland and it's a weird like, maudlin jazz poetry number.
But there's the story he tells, and the implied history of the narrator and Cherry and Eddie. And who doesn't love the story of a small-time hood trying to get big? This is kinda a recurring thing for Springsteen, I've noticed.

I mean, given the samples and the loop, I'm guessing it's a way to get the community together for a quarantine recording. I like the song, though.

e: May also be something to do with them just joining Hellcat, I think?

You ever just suddenly remember a song you haven't heard or thought or about in 10+ years?

I don't know why I find this so unbelievably charming, but I do. Easily one of my favorite beats ever too. That home-made didgeridoo goes a long way.
