It's still bonkers that they got B-25s off the flight deck of Hornet. Like, I know they stripped every ounce of weight off the planes they possibly could, but still. A medium bomber is not intended to fly off a carrier.
Starting on the clear RG Strike Freedom. I knew it was coming, but it’s still sad to see 1 runner with nice shiny gold parts and 3 with ugly dull gold parts.
Going over them with a gold Gundam marker gets them close to shiny, at least.

Well.. shit. I was worried about this.
After leaving off a piece that I didn't realize was EXTREMELY Structurally important, I finally got everything assembled -- except one booster. The clip for that booster's stand got stressed pretty hard when I had issues earlier, so I'm trying to do some reinforcement/repair.
But that doesn't help the fact that displaying this guy straight on is gonna be an issue.
I'm still not done. Gonna probably do the other 2 shields/gatling guns, although I really don't need to.
But here's my big question: My plan is to display all 3 Unicorns in all 3 modes. OG Unicorn, here, is gonna be in Unicorn mode because he's the least flashy in Destroy/unchained.
So.... do I mount the shields like my RG is? I kind of like having a dedicated display stand that can show the shields in use and flared out, but technically they aren't supposed to be deployed like that....
I just don't know.
I mean, I'll have plenty of time to think about it while I go through and decal up this guy....
Edit: Here's what I mean by posing the shield.
And while I'm at it, FUCKING HELL the Real Grade was frustrating to get there! Every time I barely touched it, the backpack fell off or the booster fell off or the bazookas fell off. The sucker is okay in the body now that it's locked, but... ARGH! Just wanted to chuck it at some points.
Pose the shields in front of him, stand the tanks up vertically behind him (rather than horizontally attached). The big effect is his loadout, and the spinning shields show how much of hte loadout he can use at once. The tanks just add bulk.
Edit: link removed due to dubious official status of the kit.
Yeesh, this would appear to be about 25 inches worth of scorpion mech.

Another friend of mine linked to that. I don't know who makes it, but it isn't Kotobukiya. The details look like it uses their mold though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were a knockoff/scaled up one.
Edit: Looks like Koto is doing another run of Gojulas Gunner though.
Just need to do the weapons and shield, and then decal it.

All the decals in the Sandrock Armidillo are waterslides and I don't really want to do them but I really ought to practice before my Hyaku-Shiki Raise Cain comes in in a few months. Cause I gotta put the Huaku-Skiki symbols on

Okay, time for more Gundam ignorance.
Why does one of the Wing models have literal wings and feathers? I've always wondered about that...

IRL it's because a new designer (Hajime Katoki of Ver. Ka fame!) was brought on to design the machines to be featured in Endless Waltz, a movie sequel to Gundam Wing, and he wasn't particularly attached or reverent of the established designs, so he just went hog wild.
In universe... I dunno, actually! They're just supposed to be fancy shields, I think? The animation does make them out to be flexible like flesh n' blood wings, but I imagine they're intended to be mechanical.

it's a redesign of the wing zero, the end-of-the-show-upgraded-protagonist-mech, that they used in the endless waltz movie/OVA thing, the feathers are made of metal but it's got actual feathers raining down around it whenever it's on the screen, don't think about it too hard
Additionally: Glory of the Losers retcons the Wing Zero Custom as starting with the TV style design, but with more of Katoki’s design aesthetic: streamlined overall and with a more sleek wing binder set up (but more or less the same silhouette)
It gets fairly beaten up before it makes it to Heero, requiring it to be rebuilt; the wings are taken from a refit of the Tallgeese that made it fit for space use, called the Tallgeese Flugel.
Also if memory serves, Katoki was the designer for at least the Tallgeese and Leo during Wing’s production, but I’m not sure about the other Oz suits, so EW just bumps him to the main designer with the main five and the Serpents

Saw a book excerpt about the old draft for the Wing suits that was made roughly around when G Gundam was being made and they were still playing with the Nations theme and Heavywarms was, obviously, America.

I finally got my order from USA Gundam Store with my single bladed nippers and Haro Zakrello kit and uh, I can't blame it on being drunk because I haven't had much to drink in months but what I thought I ordered was a yellow marker, a Metallic Red and a Gold.
What it turns out I ordered is a yellow, two different types of metallic red and two golds. The reds and gold are the fat tipped actual paint markers that I don't have any idea what I'm gonna do with at this quantity.

Everything other then the standard grey, black, and brown are paint marker. If you want colored not paint markers there is the Real Touch line which is water based paint and uses felt tipped pens but they are more for shading or weathering.

The real touch I find can be used pretty similarly for panel lining like the standard fine tip/brush tip types. I knew the metallic red and gold were actual paint markers I just bought them both with like 1 immediate use in mind.

They have the USS Hornet
To set it up for the Doolittle raid is resin and brass etch but toss in the real wood deck and it becomes a 1500 model

I guess I’ll go with the same standard...owning it is one thing, making it easy for others to own it is going too far.
