It feels like this last season is an entirely different show. Its so separate from everything we've seen so far I feel like that's what's really driving home the oppressive bleakness of it all. It went from an action packed slug fest with high stakes twists and turns to a slow burn, post WW2 Soviet Union-esque rat fuck. You never win the war. You just start fighting the next one.

i was kind operating under the assumption that this was the 11th episode counting the recap/introducing the hinata character was ep 1 but nope there are three more eps this season so its looking like 2 eps of fireworks factory and 1 of aftermath and bridge to the next season.
with an intermission of Slime Diaries to scratch the "let's build a fantasy monster town full of friends" itch before the 2nd cour in July. so basically all fireworks factory there
Still a better episode than Despair was, though; at least this was actual table setting instead of pensive looks into the middle distance when someone asks a question.

Anyway Im killing myself. The anime Diary of our days at Breakwater is ok. Its cute girls fishing and traching you how to fish. The character designs seems very Sgt.Frog like but I cant find any actual connection

Kind of a deep rabbit hole for truly obsessed Lain fans, but Chiaki Konaka(the writer) did a bunch of blogs for the 20th anniversary that have some fascinating insights to how the show was made.
"This series of events may seem like Lain is using psychokinesis or magical powers, but this was only due to the defense system that NAVI activated by her voice command. Nothing special."
"The reason why the water is leaking so much is that the electric pumps which circulate the water coolant are operating because the fans cannot keep up. Twenty years ago, cooling liquid nitrogen in PCs was a joke, but as Intel's CPUs got hotter, overclockers actually utilized liquid nitrogen (at risk). It should never be introduced in ordinary households."
The most notable thing is that several of the monsters are much, much smaller than they've ever been depicted. The Rodan in particular are probably smaller than some real pterosaurs (and appear to have multiple varieties), and Anguirus looks to be only a bit bigger than an elephant. Jet Jaguar in this is also a very realistic-looking robot. Only a few monsters shown seem traditionally kaiju-sized.
I'm also very curious what this red mist is that has been present in every trailer, and I'm betting that the orange virtual pet thing is somehow going to become King Caesar.

any two of the last three episodes probably should've been combined for pacing issues for sure, certainly all the surveying the damage should've been one ep but the pacing has always been a little off kilter, like the end of the last season which definitely feels like half a LN got adapted.

I didn't really like the first three seasons of Nanoha, but I kept watching because I felt like if they were something I could really click with if they just did a few things better. Later there was some sunk cost fallacy in there too. Season 4 is actually clicking pretty well for me, though. It's fun having a low stakes story where everyone happens to be incredibly powerful mages. The lower stakes seems to have also made it easier for them to hit the sorts of emotional beats they were going for in the previous seasons. The fights aren't as huge, but I wasn't that into the spectacle of the previous seasons most of the time. Plus despite the decreased spectacle, I think this might actually be the best the fights have looked so far.
The one downside is that I think this season has a lot more fanservice than the previous ones. It's pretty gross, still keeps this from being something I'd really recommend.
Watching through season two of Fruits Basket now. Fruits Basket is quite good at what it does.
Glad they came back to this story and did a new full animated adapation.

Tohru Honda is the character who broke me for the Belldandy archetype. I just... could not stand how perfect, flawless, and immaculate a character she was and how merely being in her presence was the balm that solved everybody's problems.

But yeah the crux of the story is her being a pretty purely good person, whose infuence/impact is enough to upend the stagnant corrupted relationships of the insular family she's brought into the mix of. But even that's not done on her own, there's folks scheming to break the cycles the family's been stuck in, and she's one of the mechanisms.
I get it. For me the show does a good job of balancing that character. Like all the people who improve or get better are often making those changes for themselves. Her impact on the cast is more the catalyst.

I don't think so, other than stuff like "hand drawn." At least, I've never seen it described in a particularly consistent terminology, although I don't browse the superfan places either. I think that the etymology of the term on the English side comes from the opposite corner, where 三文字作画 and 作画崩壊 were both popular terms used for describing absolutely garbage animation. The first ("three-character animation") is a bit of a racist term meaning that it was outsourced to a foreign country like Korea or Vietnam (and hence, the animation credits are going to be full of three-character names), and that's why the animation was shitty. The other is a much more anodyne "animation collapse," most infamously applied to Lost Universe's coconut crab episode, but got popular again thanks to the cabbage. In either case, cutting off the adjective for implying it's shitty just leaves you with "sakuga."
