So, question for the crowd:
If I bought and played a little of the original A:N box, but fell off and didn't follow the game after, and now am interested in this System Update stuff....
Do I just, like, throw that old box in the trash and replace it with whatever's in System Update? Or does the old box have anything in it that's still relevant?

A bunch of the cards will probably still be relevant. And also, as a complete playset, you can always play with just the stuff in the box.
Also also, since the core sets aren't in print anymore, I don't know that you really want to throw all that in the trash.
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
If you've got a old core set... probably the tokens? There isn't a really good source of them nowadays on the cheap.

There will be several cards from the very original core set that are still used today! Many were saved in the latest System Update. The tokens are also quite useful.
There are some formats, called Eternal, where (almost) every card ever printed is legal to play with.
And of course, for just splitting decks and cards with friends and casual kitchen table play, the box will always be good. No one can take that away from you! And the rules have, for the most part, stayed the same. The new stuff has a lot more clarifications and details, but the basics hold true.

Lots of what most would consider "staples" left out too. Cards that haven't gone anywhere since the first core set, like Data Raven, Neural EMP, and Beanstalk Royalties. We'll have to see what Nisei has up their sleeves for their interpretations of those cards in System Gateway!
Yeah, I sort of assume that they'll be taking the SEA Source/Public Trail route and get new versions in Gateway.
Especially with BABW being back as the Weyland ID, when there's literally only one transaction so far been shown in SU/SG (Hedge). There's definitely room for a new transaction that could actually see *play* in decks.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts about the latest Covenant Cast, where they talk about the end of competitive LCGs from FFG. Many of the thoughts they list fit what I expect, but they interestingly don't bring up Nisei at all. But.. it was leading to me nodding a lot, thinking about how hard it was to follow the meta and get established.

So, I finally started playing on jinteki last night. There is apparently no turn timer. What's the protocol for when someone stretches a game for two fucking hours before conceding?

There's an option to block certain people, I think in the settings. I would do that. That's a frustrating experience though.

Quit/Concede (since there is no ranking or stakes), then block them.

My gaming store is cleaning out their Organized Play stuff in preparation for re-opening once the pandemic is over. Because of my history with the store, I got all of their "Dead game" L5R and Netrunner promo stuff.
I wonder if any of it still has any value? I have to go through and see what is out there. Especially Netrunner. So much Smoke.
And we're back to scoops, this time talking about barriers and the things that break them. New anarch & crim barrier breakers, and a new Weyland & NBN barrier.

Well I have an interesting project in front of me...
My local game store is in the early stages of planning for re-opening, and that means going through their organized play stuff. They've gotten a LOT of FFG stuff over the years, many for games that are now.. well.. "Dead." So I get the fun of finding good homes for all of it!
Not sure what I'm gonna do - selling, giveaways, so on. Local community's gonna get first dibs of course, though I don't know if anyone local still plays Netrunner. And of course some of this may or may not be Nisei legal, I haven't checked that yet either. But at the very least, I'm gonna save these from a landfill.
Edit: Hah. I post this on Netrunner Dorks and I've already got 2 people offering to buy stuff. Which means I need to figure out its value.
The second article about ICE and the breakers who smash them is up, this time talking about code gates. New anarch & shaper breakers, and new NBN and neutral code gates.

Plus there was this...
Which turns out to be new Aesop’s Pawnshop art, which will be returning in Update.

My god... this was a hell of a nostalgia trip. Seeing so many of my beloved cards, with the updated art and flavor text...
I know I don't need to buy a copy of system update, because I already have everything. But MAN, part of me wants to just for the new art.
