If they forked over 450 mil I doubt it. They're shoring up movies to combat the Disney and HBO wave

Oh yeah that is definitely it. They have lost all the Disney Movies, WB movies and their associated TV shows. They are probably going to lose every Paramount movie and show once Paramount+ gets off the ground world wide. That leaves them with slim pickings if not for self produced stuff and Sony.

Creating their own hit movies has been the writing on the wall for Netflix for quite a while. Its either that or follow Blockbuster into oblivion.

Yeah, why do all these acclaimed directors/writers/producers suck so much when they try to make stuff for Netflix anyways?

I hope the first sequel hinges on the murderer using a family member’s login to watch a show on their phone and that’s how they get placed at the scene

    So, wrapped up 12 Monkeys.

Add that to my list of shows that wrapped up well.
While every plot and twist wasn't perfect, very few felt completely contrived, and there was a logic to most choices (like how Cole was able to handle the serum). It felt a little kludged, in that I'm not sure asshole/future asshole, and the return of Ramse scenes were planned that way when those scenes were initially written, but I'm willing to forgive a little, especially given how badly time travel is usually handled.

I must have stopped earlier on the initial watch through than I thought, as I had no idea James Callis was in it, and he was in the latter half of S3.

The completed cycle for Olivia was NOT something I expected. But it was appropriate.

Bringing back both Ramse and Athan for the finale was awesome. Deacon too, but he had only been gone for an episode. Though I'm glad he got a rewritten cycle, like Ramse and Hannah, that was awesome,

Chicken and egg was an inspired bit of writing. I mean, it's obvious, but it's also just awesome. Emily Hampshire does a great job, given that she definitely has the most convoluted storyline throughout.

The theme song blasting in the Cole and Ramse's "final ride", had me laffing my ass off, especially given how those things usually go.

Anyways, I give the series a solid A. It tackles one of the most complicated plot devices in writing, and manages to stick the landing, even if there's a minor wobble.

I finished Search Party. First two seasons were strongest, season 3 felt a little weak and I really didn't like the concept for season 4 but the ending episode was pretty good. Overall this show survives on the strength of the characters and writing because it walks this weird line between serious and campy. I actually figured they would
wrap things up with just Dory going to jail for April's murder, which I think would have been more karmic than the whole kidnapped subplot.

Also started His Dark Materials. I loved these books as a teenager but the first episode felt a little plain. We'll see, I'll stick with it.

I once again tried to watch Haunting of Hill House but I just can't do it. The show is jump scare bait. Like everything is always quiet and you know around every corner a jump scare will happen. I can't even enjoy it without my anxiety spiking.

Knives Out 2 will end on a big cliffhanger and 3 will burn the script and just do something else completely you know, to subvert expectations.

I'm trying to watch this Highrise something or other anime and it's so fucking insipid and annoying; the lead just fucking constantly narrates what you need to know. edit: fuck it, 2-1/2 episodes and I'm out. Terrible. I WILL NOW MONOLOGUE IN MY HEAD FOR 2 MINUTES SO YOU KNOW WHO I AM.

I wanted to like Sky Captain so bad. Like it's exactly my jam. Crimson Skies is one of my favorite games of all time so a dieselpunk movie should have been laser targeted to me.

I remember two things about it: it was super boring and I can't remember the second because it was so boring.

The worst part was watching that with my wife and having to explain that what they were showing was probably the most tame thing on that sight and to never ever visit that website.

Started watching The Serpent on Netflix, only one episode in but not really feeling it. Kinda feels like wannabe Scorsese with unnecessary time jumps which made the ending of the first episode obvious from a mile away.

Finished the first season of His Dark Materials. I found the beginning half of S1 dragged but once things get going I quite liked it. I really liked the books as a kid but I actually forgot the "twist" ending of book 1 so I was actually a little shocked. S2 starts much stronger, and I remember Subtle Knife being the best of the three books. The witches are just as badass as I remember.

Watched first season of Infinity Train. I think the biggest issue is that it's 10 episodes long, and each episode is 11 minutes long. Not much of that is credits, but that's still comparable to a reasonable-sized movie. I'm not sure that more episodes would have created a better experience, but this seems like an obvious indicator of the trend where the amount of content in a season keeps going down and down. (I blame the economics of streaming. If people are just going to subscribe for a month, watch the entire season, then unsubscribe, then there's no real incentive to have more than the absolute minimum of episodes.)

On the plus side, Kate Mulgrew.

Overall, I liked it, and will keep going with season 2.

I complained about the same thing when I watched it a few months ago. Apparently that's about the norm for animated shows "for kids" nowadays (I don't really think Infinity Train is for kids, but I guess it's at least nominally kid-friendly and apparently is marketed that way). You get 10-11 minute shorts paired together into 30-minute blocks.
