I actually skipped over Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind when I watched Castle In The Sky, so I decided to watch it tonight.
Hey folks? I'm thirty minutes into Nausicaä of the Valley of the Windand and ya know what?
It fucking rules
I get that Akira feeling from watching Nausicaa in that it's a very interesting movie animated very well... that's not even a cliff notes summary of the full plot. In that vein, I feel like Akira ends up being the much better experience.
See I completely and totally disagree! Mostly because Nausicaa is completely coherent and full as a narrative, and Akira is... uh, Akira. I think the big difference is that Miyazaki always intended for Nausicaa to be a movie, but the only way he could get funding for it was if it were based on a manga, so he did a manga so he could make the movie he’d already written the screenplay for
Bonus fact: Nausicaa came out four years before Akira! Which I did not know until like last week. With the incredibly Akira-esque monster at the end, I always thought it was the other way around somehow
Double fun fact the monster at the end was animated by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion and Shin Godzilla fame.
From the newspaper clippings at the end of King of the Monsters:

Godzilla vs Kong
I wonder how seriously this newspaper clipping should be taken. Obviously this could just be an Easter egg hinting at MechaGodzilla in the next movie before any solid plans were set in stone, but part of me wonders if perhaps MechaGodzilla was originally a top secret Monarch project that was transferred to Apex so that if something went wrong Monarch could deny any involvement. I wouldn't be surprised if the top officials at Monarch know way more than they let on, perhaps even that the Titans they had been trying to keep imprisoned would restore ecological damage. Plus now they have a station in the Hollow Earth, conveniently putting them near the mysterious power source.
Plus, it's a human-run organization (unless the Xians or whatever show up as the true masterminds in a sequel) called Monarch, and Godzilla is the King of the Monsters, so maybe they just didn't want Godzilla to get his other potential Titan subordinates.
Also, after thinking about it some more, they need to get some spies into the MonsterVerse to help spice up the human plot. Some of the most interesting (IMO, of course) human plots in the Godzilla franchise have involved secret agents and such. Godzilla vs Biollante is a stand-out with an opening scene involving a Japanese research team obtaining Godzilla cells that is gunned down by paramilitary working for an American company called Bio-Major only for an assassin named SSS9 to show up, kill the paramilitary guys, and seize the samples for another country. SSS9 shows up multiple times in the movie, which follows up the final monster battle with the secret agents shooting one of the movie's main characters only to be chased down and killed by a lightning-generating machine that was earlier deployed against Godzilla (blasted by kaiju-frying lightning is a helluva way to go).
Also, vs Biollante featured this awesome as fuck track called BIO WARS that is not at all what you'd expect from a Godzilla movie:
The later Showa series also had a number of human plots involving both heroic and villainous secret agents, but that's mostly because the main director at the time really wanted to make those kinds of movies instead.
The earliest versions of what would become the Silmarillion also feature a sailor ending up in Tol Eressëa where he's told the history of the elves and all that jazz.

HBO Max subscribers had the option to stream "Godzilla vs. Kong" in the comfort of their homes during Easter and Passover weekend, but plenty of moviegoers opted to see it in theaters. That's great news for the publicly traded owners of big multiplexes.
Warner Bros., the studio that released the film, said Sunday that "Godzilla vs. Kong" has raked in nearly $50 million at the US box office since its release last Wednesday, sending shares of AMC (AMC) — a stock that's incredibly popular with traders on Reddit — soaring more than 15%.
Some moviegoers are clearly craving the big-screen experience, and that will be a boost for the likes of AMC. The company which also benefited from an analyst upgrade Monday. Eric Wold of B. Riley Securities raised his rating to a "buy" and hiked his price target from $7 a share to $13 — about 20% above where the stock is now trading. AMC's monster move was echoed on a smaller scale by other related stocks: Cinemark (CNK), Marcus (MCS) and giant screen exhibitor IMAX (IMAX) also each rose between 3% and 6% while the UK-listed shares of Cineworld, the London-based owner of Regal Cinemas, were up 4%.
The strong debut for "Godzilla vs. Kong" is particularly notable that given that HBO Max customers could watch the movie for free as part of their monthly subscription.

Honestly if anything it's been fairly impossible to discern any impact that HBO Max has had on returns, especially because there's very little good point of comparison

See I was doing a double bit because Bill Murray is unapologetic for taking the Garfield role, and Garfield is a piece of shit and the movie was creatively bankrupt.
I thought about saying David Cross, but I'm not sure how many people actually know he was in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.
The only thing I remember about the emoji movie is learning patrick stewart really likes to get paid.
Jordon Peele was offered the role of the Poop Emoji and asked to have a day to think it over. When he got in touch with his agent to ask about the pay he was told that Patrick Stewart took it already. And that was the day that Jordon Peele decided he was done acting.
