the wildest thing about Chernobyl is that it was, to my mind, a pretty accurate and severe indictment of hierarchy and careerism, but everyone watched it and said "golly I'm sure glad I don't live in a communism"

then like six months later, covid!

Yes but a lot of people think communism is that thing where one guy says what you can and can't do. Also they think face masks work pulled down below you nose or that covid isn't real at all. This last year (4 years?) has really lowered my expectations of intelligence for the average person.

The wildest part about Chernobyl is how many people there were exposed to incredible amounts of deadly radiation and remain alive to this day. Some of them even in good health!

Watched Manifest Season 3 Episode 1. The show's always been about belief but I think it's making the turn into a secret jesus show. When the biggest logic and evidence and "there's an explanation for everything" character suddenly decides maybe it's actually god it feels weird.

I have to admit, everyone was right about the last few episodes of Lower Decks being much better than all the rest. I decided to power through the last half of the season, and by the end I think I'd say I actually like the show. If a second season starts at that quality level, I'd definitely give it a shot. Although I do still have issues with it.

The best way I can describe it is, it feels like someone consumed all of the same media I did, and loves it just as much. Just for entirely different reasons. Although it could be worse, like the Heathers remake.

The scene where Jared Harris just offhand explains that he and Skarsgard are actually already dead and then lists all the ways they could die was amazing.

Jared Harris might quietly be one of the best actors working right now.

Even in a cast as filled with the exceptionally doomed as 'The Terror', Jared Harris still manages to play the most "doomed".

The podcast actually explains they've tried to get him back multiple times, but every time they try he's already doing several projects. So they had to transfer a bunch of Dawes story to Anderson and Ashford.

I think it was an intentional in-joke about how his personality is so different from the movie character.

    I’m assuming you meant Johnson?

And yeah, is there any Dawes stuff left to tell at this point of the show? I haven’t read the books, but I’m interested as to how much of a presence his name would even have in the final season, after everything that’s happened

Yup, Johnson, sorry mixed up there.

    Books Spoilers
Dawes represents the more independent Belter factions that end up more or less aligned with Johnson against Inaros, so I don't think he does all that much more.

Finished Infinity Train over the weekend. Really good show, rolls a lot darker over time than I expected.
Since each episode is only 11 minutes it kind of makes it so each season can work as a standalone 110ish minute movie.
Was curious when that last season was due and it's just in a couple weeks, so that works out nicely.

    Started re-watching Person of Interest

it's always the little things that make me happy:

    for example, this interstitial reads
    searching archived disks...
    3.5 ...
    5.25 .
    disk found: mecc ev 6

just before a cut to a kid playing the Oregon Trail. Which, of course, was published by MECC. And at one point was shipped on an Elementary Volume 6 disk.

    actual spoiler
and using the game to tell the audience that "hanna has died" is perfect. It's foreshadowing that the audience will likely miss, especially if they played the game.

Apparently the Harvey Birdman seqeul/spinoff aired this past weekend and Adult Swim put the whole thing up on Youtube:

Yay for more Paget Brewster, but going by the first episode it would seem they somehow don't have the rights to use any Hanna-Barbera characters?

I mindblanked on Phil, though he only appeared in photographs.

Birdgirl was an original creation for the Harvey Birdman version, and the rest of the Birdman and Hanna-Barbera stuff is gone (at least for this episode), aside from a new character that's probably related to a character from the original series.
