Managed to snag a spot at the Safeway in Bothell this weekend. It looks like Safeway opens up slots sometime around 12-3pmish and got the heads up from a friend so yay for me! They appear to do the Pfizer/Moderna ones so hopefully reactions will be minor.

Pierce, whitman and cowlitz counties got rolled back to phase 2 after bad numbers of covid infections. Please let this be one time.

I'm pretty sure whitman and cowlitz already are, I'm not the pierce expert we'll have to wait for @hacksaw to weigh in, he's got that pierce county tattoo.

I was happy to see the line for people getting vaccines when I took Ladyjubs to get hers in this podunk county. Our numbers are getting bad though too as are most red counties in the state.

I'm not going to lie, I'm really surprised to see Skagit County not on that list. Because if there's one thing I can tell you from what I've seen is that people are not being smart right now.

I'm honestly kind of surprised most of the state isn't rolled back at this point given how bad many counties are on covidactnow: https://www.covidactnow.org/us/washington-wa/?s=1749670

I really wish the government would tie re-opening phases to vaccination rates, might as well incentivize vaccinations.

I was born and bred in UP (West Tacoma), and have spent a good chunk of my life there. Pierce generally speaking is as metropolitan as King and Snohomish are, despite concentrated pockets of Yeeeeeehaw. It represents enough of a relief valve property value wise for Seattle that it will generally be more... progressive?

Just got my Pfizer jab from the Bothell Safeway myself. The doc there is a wizard with the needle, hardly felt it at all. Here's hoping more of us can get this as I'm seeing more and more folks just foregoing the mask entirely out and about unless they go into a store that outright requires it.

Yup! That was him! I had to do a double take when I heard his name and asked for clarification because I felt so awkward saying it initially.

I found this to be pretty straightforward:

shit like "exactly one year of coverage" and "$100 a day" is how you know they just pulled all these numbers out of their asses

it's a collection of guesses, not a policy

    Also, find me someone who:
    • Needs ~3 years of long term care (let's conservatively call it $5,000 per month - $180,000)
    • Would have less than $36,500 if they'd invested the same amount they paid
    • The margin between those two numbers is what saves them from complete financial ruin.

    I'll wait.

Honestly, I'm wondering if this is more about creating an incentive for people to buy long-term care insurance than creating a "real" tax.

You're not required to maintain it after you're exempted from the program.

  • BrodyBrody The Watch The First ShoreRegistered User regular
Two things. Are union employees exempt per RCW 50B.04.080? And also in that section it basically says the premium can change, but that whoever is in charge of the premium has to strive to maintain a .58% premium, so is it actually on any way restricted, or can they say "we tried" and then fuck it up anyways?

And that's stupid, but it's stupid if they're trying to do this properly as well.

My understanding is that union employees are exempt:

    https://www.ltc-associates.com/education-center/who-pays-for-long-term-care/public-programs/washington-state-long-term-care-trust-act/

BUT if you change jobs into a non-union role down the road, you're now out of the private insurance exemption application window (October 1st, 2021 to December 31st, 2022) and are required to participate, unless you get another union job.

Max of 0.58% is the law, they're supposed to keep it under that, if possible:
Beginning January 1, 2024, and biennially thereafter, the premium rate shall be set by the pension funding council at a rate no greater than fifty-eight hundredths of one percent.

I wonder how many residents end up moving to another state (to be closer to family for example) when they need long term care. You lose coverage if you do that.
