you should plan on having to decommission any power plant you're running on compacted coal since it's way more useful in other stuff and sulfur is pretty rare

Good to know! But i'm ages away from acessing Turbofuel so i'm not going to fuss for now - it looks like what i'll probably do is hook up fuel generators to fuel, get turbofuel production primed, and switch over. For nwo though i've only really just started T3/T4 sooo... Compacted Coal away!
I've got quick and dirty steel production up and running too, so that's nice. Now i'm just going to leave it to churn out steel beams while i do other stuff so i can make T3 Conveyor belts everywhere and launch my production into the stratosphere.
I really appreciate that Ziplines work on unpowered wires, meaning that getting basically anywhere is just a matter of having enough concrete, cable, wire and rods to build improtu mountainering networks.
And avoiding autosaving while on said networks, because uh, yeah.
Reverted the fix: “Fixed a bug that prevented Miners from being upgraded/downgraded” as it erroneously allowed extractors to be upgraded into other Extractors. (Read more in the “Known Issues” section at the bottom)
Yesterday’s patch with the “Fixed a bug that prevented Miners from being upgraded/downgraded” fix enabled Extractors to be erroneously upgraded into other extractors (I.E. Water Extractor into Oil Extractor) this could result in crashes and other undefined behaviour, we recommend dismantling/rebuilding any Extractors upgraded to another type of Extractor due to this bug as it might lead to future issues.
Proper fix for the Miners not being able to be upgraded/downgraded soon™
The factory has expanded to meet the needs of the factory.
Annnnd we aint done yet.
Still, this is nearly done, and producing all the basic iron/steel/copper/caterium stuff, and feeding it into storage/further down the chain once storage is full. Final bit is going to be turning it all into Space Elevator parts to fill the space elevator... and feed the Grinder when that's full.
I do hope we get some kind of blueprint capability - I dont eve necessarily want big scale blueprints like some crazy people talk about, i just want blueprints so i can do stuff like stick down a Constructor/Assemblers/etc with the splitters & mergers all ready to go on them.
Getting the measurements right for this sort of layout is a real pain -it's fine once i've got things setup in a row, but i have to do it for each row, and that's ooof.
I like to layout my assemblers like this, so you don't actually need the lift. The curve down to the second input is just within steepness / allowable shape parameters.
ED: Note that the middle is 2 splitters right on top of each other; no gaps required. Makes setting them up easy!
The urge to rip the entire thing apart and redesign it to be nicer is also rising. I think next time i'm going to build it a lot more carefully, and go for a very dedicated module setup - i.e everything that's needed to produce Y output is produced on Y floor. Mostly just to cut down on the amount of spagehtti so i only have to worry about shipping in the raw resoruces and shipping out the finished products.
But hey, Learning experience! half the reason to do things in games like this is because you learn so much in the process
The Beast rises, it's noodly appendages questing for everflesh to consume
This is making basically every sub t5 item with the exception of anything that'd need a manufacturer. Well, that and Biofuel n Motors are also not produced by it - i've still got my old biofuel factory setup elsewhere in the world and have no reason to redo that. Motors i need to setup, but i wanted to get T5 unlocked already
Anything that's used to make buildings is routed to the bank, and once the bank is full it's passed further down the chain to be used in whatever needs it next. Eventually the factory just makes the first 3 Space Elevator components, and then sends those to the Eleveator... or to the Grinder if that's full. So i'm making an awful lot of smart plating and automated cabling just to grind it, but hey! Delicious tasty point income.
Theortical power draw on the factory is 1.7k MW, but the factory never gets close. it caps out at about 1.05k MW - and that's including water generators, miners, all that jazz. Plus i've got a big ol Battery bank to handle any spikes.
I was just using a little infinite power bio gen at the start that I used until I got Coal power going. I’m so tired of bio power starts.
That's fair.
I meanwhile went and built this thing for my biofuel factory:
3-to-3 Load balancer. I stick leaves/wood/carapace into a storage crate on one end, and i get Solid Biofuel out the other. The system automatically balances everything so that the bioeful is compressed into Solid stuff at even rates.

I'd probably do something like that when the game is finally released but I've restarted so many times I just can't be bothered with that early power phase.
I mean, i'm up to Coal power already (And about to start working on setting up Fuel/Turbofuel). But i'm sitll using the odd bit of Biofuel, and it was a nice simple little build to make.

here's a tip when using lights:
the white lights are just eye-searing no matter what intensity and the other colors aren't useful for the purpose of helping me see shit
but if you go and change the white light's settings in any lightswitch and reduce the contrast by about half, the intensity actually starts to work the way you'd expect

It’s called Magic Machine. It comes with two things that will just straight up produce any new item and the magic generator that produces 10gw. I’ve only ever used the power and ignore the other two.
Feeling a little lost and overwhelmed with the update finally out for real.
It seems I need aluminum next, which I had just unlocked when they announced update 4, so I promptly stopped trying to make any progress.
So anyway, I pushed north into the only big black spot left on my map....the pink forest on the plateau. Pretty neat up here! Lotta mean armor dogs though.
...
Oh God i need to shore up my power now though...two batteries keeps the lights on, but I'm gonna need way more power once I start building new machines.
My turbo fuel and aluminium lines need to be redone, and my production lines are scattered everywhere when it may be preferable to transport all raw goods to a central tower.
Alternatively, I could just use trains or drones to transport goods to the central tower to enable advanced production there

Thinking about stuff I want in this game and a big one is the floor equivalent of the walls with the conveyor holes in them. Alternately a floor piece that is a quarter sized square so I can fill in around vertical conveyors and put "safety" rails around them.

You can kind of do that with the frame floors combined with walkways.

So has anyone actually setup Truck Stations and used those? They seem like, well, a bunch of work. I'm sorta pondering them because i've got a couple of places where moving resources around is good, It's kinda far for conveyor belts (I mean, totally doable, but also ew long distance conveyors), and too short to super make sense for trains. Which would seem like the niche that Trucks/Tractors are supposed to take, but then i'd have to sort the logistics for their fuel, and i'd have to drive the thing myself to program it's autopilot, and it all just seems awkward. Interested to hear feedback!
Trucks are nice for moving coal since there's your fuel right now. If there's no coal or other fuel nearby I generally don't use them cause I don't want to figure out the logistics. Just comes down to preference, you can totally run a bunch of trucks if you have good fuel setup, and then enjoy whenever the physics glitch out and send them flying (which will fix itself as soon as you're further away and they de-render)

I set up two sets of truck stations in my game. The first was in the meadows start area to bring a coal and sulfur node over to where I had my beginning setup, which was... eh. The much more useful one was for bringing coal to my base in the northwestern dunes where I chose to establish my main factory in the midgame. I trucked coal across the dune region, basically, from the couple of nodes on the eastern edge back to the base for processing steel. That one was a lot more useful. I could have used a train, probably, but it was right at that distance where it seemed a little short for a train but definitely too long for a belt. The main thing to keep in mind is you probably want to build at least a few bridges and things over more troublesome looking terrain features, because if the truck is loaded in, the computer will actually try to drive that path.

I think my main problem is that there's no distance too long for a belt.

There's definitely a point where it's a pain, though. I def don't regret setting up train stations at the very least! Easy too and fro transport as well, and they move power to boot.
Side note, I dig power switches. I'm over producing power to a truly stupid degree right now, but it's still nice to be able to create discreet little networks to shut areas off as I need em
