Someone copied his huge EQ rant basically word for word when C’Thun was super bugged to the point where it was unbeatable. And like the EQ rant, the problem was fixed almost immediately.

Buying an new SSD could be about to become as difficult as buying a new, next-gen graphics card in the coming months thanks to the rise of a new cryptocurrency known as Chia. According to a new report from HKEPC (thanks Hexus), storage prices in Hong Kong have soared in recent days as miners snap up high capacity drives in anticipation of Chia being the next big thing, causing several models to go out of stock. Now, manufacturers in China have confirmed they're starting to produce dedicated cryptocurrency mining SSDs to help handle the growing demand.

Developed by the founder of BitTorrent Bram Cohen, Chia sets itself apart from other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin by relying much more heavily on having a fast SSD than a high-powered graphics card. From what we understand over on Chia's website, it's built around having lots of free space on your PC, and the high number of read and write operations it's expected to perform also favours SSDs with high endurance ratings.

You can't actually trade Chia just yet, but the HKEPC report states that SSDs and hard disk drives are already in short supply in Hong Kong, and many 4-18TB models have already gone out of stock. Prices have increased by an average of HK$200-HK$600 in just a few days, too, which for context works out to be around £20-60 in the UK.

As SSD supplies continue to dry up, Chinese manufacturer Jiahe Jinwei have now announced they're starting to make a new suite of dedicated cryptocurrency mining SSDs to cope with the current demand. It looks like they'll be mainly targeted at Chia miners, so may miss the consumer retail market altogether, but the company have already warned that it could prompt a new rush on SSDs more generally as Chia becomes more popular. As such, we could be in for another great graphics card-sized shortage of our beloved SSDs soon, and prices for the best SSDs for gaming could start to rise all over the world as a result.

I don't remember a ton of her story, I think I maybe just didn't use her in the party very often since I was a cipher. One issue I had with that game was that the sheer amount of text was a bit much and for some of the characters that didn't click I trailed off of their stories.

Like Durance was annoying enough that most of what I remember is "very mad, alright at spells".

I remember I really liked Sagani and Maneha.

Durance was intentionally written to be an arrogant asshole, which made the pay off of his story kinda great.

I always feel bad in a party-based game when I just sideline half the cast because it would ruin my current strategy, but I often find that the talkier the companion characters get the more I'm like oh no I will not remember to say hi to you on a regular enough basis to get your story and I just leave them at the base doing nothing.

I think I left him rotting in my dungeon on my second run.

Durance is a good example of a shitty person who has a cool place in the story and reveals a lot about the world. Hiravias (druid guy) just sucks and brings nothing to the table.

the magic in tyranny is quite a bit different than the PoE games

i didn't actually engage with it much, the PoE one felt a bit more like BG1/2

PoE2 has a pretty good suite of "what did you do in PoE1" options available, both as several pre-created things and more granular stuff you can get into.

You'll be starting over at level 1 regardless, so that aspect of it isn't really necessary.

Quick tip on the legacy stuff - there are several premade ones that are pretty good from what I remember that you'll be offered when you start the game. If you want to do a truly custom one, I believe you need to create it from the main menu before starting your new game, at which point you'll go through a questionnaire and that will get added as an available starting point.

Oh yeah, I do still think the first one is a great game. I wish it had some of the system improvements that the second one did and had less dumb little fights, but overall I'm a big fan.

also if you play through PoE one, you'll come across characters whose names are written in gold text - these NPCs are kickstarter backers, and while you can read the short stories attached to their characters, they don't have any bearing on the game

I beat it once and read the Wikipedia page on it, I just didn't have a save to import so I was thinking I'd play it again

like, when I get the urge to play Baldur's Gate 2, I think "well it'd be weird if my character didn't come from the first game" and play BG1 until I got bored and never get around to playing 2

the gold text stories run the gamut from "decent but irrelevant" to "fart-sniffing pap"

you can read them if you like but I read dozens and remember basically none of them

the headstone markers and are of even less value, they're to be actively avoided at all costs

I still think about those games a lot, and especially the leap in class composition between the first and second.

in the first game you have a lot of options for essentially an ideal party without any real friction or any member who's bad at their job.

in the second the only character you're likely to have in a good-aligned party that really excels in their role is the one you make, the rest all have some huge disadvantage, or are evil and therefore a pain to keep around.

look at that plus the class kits and you can really see them chafing against the AD&D system. that the same studio made Dragon Age is both very interesting and very predictable.

I want there to be a way for me to play the Baldur's Gate games again

Not like, the enhanced editions, I have those and did play them when they came out

But rather... I guess a version of the game with all of the combat edited out is sort of what I want? Or one where it feels more like I can skip quests or whatever if I don't want to do them, that sort of thing

Edit: Alternately what I want is to sit in a room with someone else who is playing Baldur's Gate and talk to them about the game like we're watching television or whatever (but also not a Let's Play, really, I already listen to Mages and Murderdads)

I still think the combat in the BG games is good, each encounter is kind of a puzzle with some RNG for certain outcomes, and going through them again isn't totally without enjoyment for me, though this is way more true of the second game than the first

I would very much like a version of Planescape: Torment that had most of the encounters removed, though
