so last night, I saw a scene from Battleship the Movie based on the hit board game Battleship

when they fight the aliens, the alien ship shoots like, underhand grenade bombs that look like German potato mashers at the titular battleship

I have just now today realized that they weren't potato mashers

they were the fucking pegs you put on your board.
The movie is great, this is true.

I have the Kre O set of the battleship because well I wanted it
I have not put it together as everything is the same shade of grey and the instructions are vague

I finished The Fast and the Furious.

It was entertaining. It kinda just ends though. Like what?

Nobody thought it was going to become what it did. It was just a mid-tier action movie with low rent relative no names, so it's clear where they didn't put the work in. That's why the next two movies are all but direct-to-video sequels. But Vin Diesel's incredibly memorable delivery of bad material moves mountains in the pop culture consciousness, so when he comes back for #4 they start swinging for the fences

Four was still not that great, it was five when they went, what if we did really dumb stuff, but with cars.

I still think they should just start giving the cars superpowers. Elba's motorcycle in Hobbes and Shaw was a start.

Yeah Five is where it all starts to pay off as a franchise, but I think that getting Vin Diesel to re-commit to the series is what got it moving to where it is now. I mean Han is in Four. If that's not refusing to play by the rules of storytelling and going all-in on dumb shenanigans, I don't know what is.

Vin Diesel coming back to the series is the funniest thing; he only agreed to do it if he got the rights to Riddick.

Vin's love of that character lead to one of the biggest film franchises in the world.

A fast and furious x transformers movie would be neat but only if they were more like G1 transformers and not those bay ones.

Idris Elba's bike literally made the Transformers sound when it transformed, so either they're already a combined universe or Elba's character likes the movies/cartoon and programmed that sound in himself.

I mean, yes, but I literally have a Transformers crossover avatar.

My text message noise is the transformation sound and my ringtone is the theme from the 1986 movie.

I might be an edge case here.

It made little me a big fan of the dodge viper back then. I didn't realize that the show had 4 seasons. With one actor in the main role in season 1 and 4 and another in 2 and 3.

Wealthy, out-spoken black conservative scientist Dr. Miles Hawkins is shot in the spine by a police sniper during a riot while trying to rescue a child, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair.

After losing a lawsuit against the police department and discovering evidence of a vast conspiracy against the black community, he angrily undergoes a change in political philosophy and uses his company's resources to invent a formfitting combination powered exoskeleton and bulletproof black body armor that not only enables him to walk while wearing it but in the process also endows him with superhuman strength, speed and agility, plus the ability to fire nonlethal paralysis darts from his wrists.

And that's from 1994! And by Sam Raimi? That sounds interesting.

Oh, it was retooled after the pilot to take all the edges of it reads like.

I’m home sick today so I wanted love and monsters, it was pretty enjoyable. Nothing earth shattering but all the creature designs were well done and all the world building and story points were quite well thought out. Honestly my only complaint about it is that it just tended slightly to older kids when in think it could have almost been a really good family movie.

It definitely felt like the sort of kids movie that doesn’t quite get made anymore

I really enjoyed it! Hope it takes that best visual effects Oscar, I thought it looked great for the budget

Review embargo's only up in Australia at the moment so there's still only a few reviews (17 at the moment)

Don't know if that's a good or bad sign, but everyone who's reviewed it publicly so far is consistent in that it's gory as fuck, which 1) tracks with the brutal fatality leak/spoiler I linked a week or so ago, and 2) is the only thing I wanted out of this film, so I'm hype
