The hummingbirbs are starting to come around in full force. I'm gonna get another couple feeders so maybe they stop jousting eachother and just fuckin' chill out and share the bounty.

If you don't want the hummers to fight, you have to place the feeders so they're out of sight of each other. Otherwise one of 'em will try to defend both/all feeders and it'll just be back and forth buzzing and war-squeaking all summer.
Birds have higher core body temperatures than most mammals, so their breaths are hot and moist like ours, so when it's cold enough their breaths puff too. It's just usually harder to see since they're smaller.

I was just stood in my kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil and looking out the window at the bird box I made and put up at the bottom of the garden, idly wondering why nothing had shown interest in it yet and thinking maybe it will happen next year. And then thought something about it looked strange so I grabbed my binos and
Always nice to see our bird friends taking advantage of what we offer them, but I have to ask what is up with that picture? Like is that using the camera on your phone to take a picture through the binoculars? A picture of the screen on a digital camera with a good zoom? I'm excessively curious about this!

It's a picture taken with my phone of the screen on the back of my DSLR which I used to take the picture because it has a telephoto lens.

Why These Birds Need a Wingman to Get the Girl4:48 https://youtu.be/FZoQ_qeL2Hs The Mata Atlantica, Brazil’s coastal rainforest, is home to an astonishing variety of wildlife. One of its inhabitants is the blue manakin, a bird that’s pretty skilled when it comes to dancing. 🕺🏻
Our new video swoops into the world of the blue manakin to see how males try to attract a mate, and why female birds can be pretty choosy. But it’s not all fun on the dance floor – the Mata Atlantica is shrinking rapidly. Will the blue manakin backing dancers ever get a chance to star?
Man I love this
I hope they don't disappear from the world
When I was a kid there was a couple at our church that had a parrot that when it got tired would go to the laundry room where its cage was, and hop in and close the door after itself.

some cardinals live near my house! I leave bird seed out for them.
when I was a kid, there was about a week where an owl would just look through my bedroom window every night. not like, from a tree, it'd get on the sill and that's not a great way to wake up. giant owl eyeballs reflecting my night-light, staring at me.

I don't think I had ever heard what a Mandarin Duck sounds like before that video. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but that sure wasn't it! Very neat.
