It is awesome! Also stressful! But also awesome!
If you decide to put in a hosting application, I strongly recommend taking as many takes as you need for the audition. Follow the instructions for the audition and make good choices about how to drive up hype and donations.
If anyone has questions about volunteering, particularly hosting, feel free to ask them here or to me via PM. The online format leads to great ways to contribute without leaving the comfort of your home!
Are there any special hardware requirements expected for a streamer? Not that I'm likely to get approved...

For hardware, beyond being able to connect your gaming system to a computer with Internet access, I don't think there are hardware requirements. If you are already streaming, then you should be good to go. If not, you're going to want a microphone of some sort, but I don't know if that is specifically required, and a stable and strong Internet connection. There are some software requirements (OBS, audio, etc.) needed to get you working with the stream that can take some time to sort out, but these have not appeared to be difficult/onerous and mandatory tech checks will work out the kinks.
Edit: If you say you are gong to use a webcam, which is optional, in your submission, then that is a commitment you are expected to adhere to if your run is accepted as particular layouts are used for people with webcams.
I didn't pass the audition for AGDQ but I'm definitely planning to try again.
Did you request feedback?
I didn't but I should've. I will if I don't make it this time.
The best advice I can give is to take some prep time to craft a narrative for the audition. Figure out the best way to follow the instructions of the audition while also going beyond and plugging things like the charity, prizes, etc. In short, choose donations carefully. Then, sell it with a range of low to high hype levels.
Edit: I can provide a link to a previous audition submission via PM if that would be of interest.
hmm, since I'm in Japan my "normal" available time would probably fit into slots that are normally weird hours for America/Europe, so I might actually have something to offer
hosting some runs would definitely be a pretty awesome experience
Some of the overnight runs have been utterly magical, like when the host accidentally said "daughters" instead of "dollars" and people ran with it to a ridiculous extent. I think that was during Burnout: Paradise but I'm not entirely certain.
We have a new Super Mario Bros world record btw, 4:54.948 by Nifski
Estimates based on TASing put this at nearly the fastest humanly possible time, it's actually impossible to save another full second due to the way the game transitions between stages
(WR run starts at 0:32) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3NRe3KulqU

Quick reminder that SGDQ 2021 volunteer applications close this Friday, April 23, so if you've been thinking about giving it a shot get that application in!

NES Batman
Battletoads by TMR
Bloodstained
Castlevania (if the relay race gets met - sounds like an incentive)
Castlevania: Bloodlines (because Genesis love is always good)
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
Dark Souls 3 glitchless
Factorio (because WHAT)
Geo Guessr (perfect score? I call BS let's see this happen!)
La-Mulana (because I play the shit out of this game still, randomizing it)
Mass Effect 2 (no-one left behind kinda just fits into a speedrun, but when do we ever see ME in GDQ?)
Mega Man 2 (because it's the Gameboy one)
Mega Man X and X 2 (because they're 100% runs)
Ninja Gaiden (pacifist run?!)
Quackshot (MORE GENESIS LOVE)
Ristar (a race!)
Sonic 3D Blast (two players, one controller - always a great category)
Republic Commando (I never thought about speedrunning this great as fuck game, the best thing to come from the second trilogy)
SMB2 (because it's basically 100%)
SMB3 (because it's the best Mario game ever but also co-op)
Super Metroid (it's a race AND it's 100%)
Breath of the Wild (all dungeons has to mean the Divine Beasts and not the shrines)
X-Men 2 (more Genesis love!)
Startropics 2 (this game is dope as fuck)
I have to skip Streets of Rage 4 and Sundered because I haven't played those myself (and mean to stream them while I'm at it).
Edit - Oh and then things I'm looking forward to because of the runners and not necessarily the games themselves:
Ghost and Goblins (TMR)
Record of Lodoss War (Bowie the Hero)
Yeah I follow Bowie quite a bit, he has a Camelot month where he plays all the Camelot games (Shining Force, Golden Sun, Beyond the Beyond) and I think he even streams FF14 sometimes? He doesn't make it to GDQ a lot, being in the UK, but he's been a fixture at ESA for awhile.

Yeah he's a pretty swell guy as well, one of my favorites.
As I sometimes do, I've been speedrunning Bionic Commando (2009) recently and even streaming it sometimes.
I've improved my personal best multiple times multiple times in the last month and just now I got my first sub-hour run with 59:21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woLQ8yHNs9A
damn this starts the same week as my new language school semester so I won't be able to give it my full attention, but man there's a lot to look forward to

Do you like JRPGs? Do you like speedruns? Do you like races? Do you like speedrun relay races of long JRPGs? Well you're in luck! RPG Limit Break's 6th annual Final Fantasy Series Relay is live! 3 teams compete across 18 games of the FF series. Event details: http://bombch.us/DQeE
hahah so the math is referring to the calculator job and its math skill, which can break the game in half if you know how to use it

yeah uh Calculators are fuckin busted in FFT
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I suppose this category exists just so the speedrun isn't "unlock calculator and then do the same thing every battle" and you actually have to use some Tactics

Wait, they are gonna speedrun PSO1&2? How the actual hell
EDIT: Wait, I guess just beating it on the easiest setting isn't TOO difficult.

I don't know if I would go so far as to say that the FFT no math speedrun requires tactics but it DOES require a wider set of job skills. Most of the game is still 'do this before the enemy has a chance to act' though

It came out at the end of March. Like this year.
Plus, it's a fucking Metroidvania yeeeeeesssssssssssssssss I want this so badly.

Questing for Glory 4 is a showcase of a variety of RPG speedruns starting today with Final Fantasy Tactics any% no math.
Hmmm. It says no math, but there's a percent sign right there. Percentages are math, you can't fool me
EDIT: Wait, I guess just beating it on the easiest setting isn't TOO difficult.
I watch a guy named Veralix who does PSO1 speed runs all the time. Takes about 2 hours to beat Dark Falix or whatever his name is.
